Nice one TG-san. Good to have a cabin to yourself - those nobi nobi seats look uncomfortable, but are useful for people who need to get somewhere cheaply. You have to be quick to get the shower card!! It was a good trip with yummy food. Thanks for taking me with you. I chose paper by the way - do enjoy the game at the end! 😊. Look after yourself and I am ready for the next one!

Bit of a warning for anyone planning to use a JR Pass, wanting to hop on the Sunrise Seto/Izumo the same day they land. (from someone who just tried this last month) Assuming you booked the JR-Pass online, you will only get your pre-booked nobi nobi (floor) seat. Do not expect to land and just pick up a solo/single/deluxe room. Since you can only book them while in Japan, these rooms are fully booked weeks in advance. Also for the shower card, do your research before to find out which car you need to line up at. If there isn't a long line of people waiting to board at that specific door, you're likely at the wrong entrance for the shower cards.
@tomservo9254 Жыл бұрын
Are you not able to reserve a room through advance online booking? I know you had to pay an additional charge for a private room even with a JRP, but is that no longer available now that they've changed the format?
@LoginBonus01 Жыл бұрын
@@tomservo9254 Who knows, maybe I gaijined my way through their booking site. Or it was high season and no individual rooms were available when I booked 1 month in advance. Feel free to purchase the pass and try your luck, since their booking site isn't quite as user friendly as it could be. From what I recall, they charged the $330ish first, then allowed me into the system to start picking pre-reserved seats. I picked the Tokyo-Okayama Sunrise-Izumo, since my final destination was Fukuoka. I was worried of losing my nobinobi seat, since half of them were already booked, so I never played around with multiple bookings. I don't recall seeing a choice online for an upgrade to solo, single, or deluxe. Reminder: JR-Pass prices are increasing later this year.
@tomservo9254 Жыл бұрын
@@LoginBonus01 I'm going in October so AFAIK the price hike won't be implemented yet. Looked into it and apparently the JRP online reservation is only available for floor seats. Thanks for the info though.

I used to go from my province of Ontario 🇨🇦 to Nova Scotia 🇨🇦 on the train every summer since I was born. It was a 3 day/2 night trip on the train and I absolutely loved it, but between my sister and I, we were a handful for my Mom, especially me as I'd always run off 😂 We would sleep in our seats which converted to beds at night; 1 upper bunk and a lower bed for 2. I was always stuck by the window, sleeping beside my Mom because she knew I'd run off. One year my parents decided to splurge and we stayed in s cabin that had its own washroom; I hated being cooped up in that room but it was only to prevent me from roaming the train. That didn't stop me though, one day when I was about 7 I escaped from the cabin and walked from one end of the train to the next. A porter took me on s tour and I got to see the kitchen and the conductor in the caboose! He gave me CNR (Canadian National Railway) goodies; I remember there was a collapsible drinking cup and a deck of cards. I was given a bottle of icy Coke to drink and was sipping on it when I heard my Mom frantically yelling my name. After that she sure kept a closer eye on me. My Mom was so afraid of being robbed that she'd sleep with her purse under her pillow 😂 you know, things were so different in the 60's, and I'll never forget those train trips that would take me to my beautiful Grandmother and her home by the Atlantic Ocean. Fun times for sure.

Next time you should ride this train all the way to Kojima (or even Takamatsu) so that you can show us the uncoupling from Sunrise Izumo at Okayama and the view from the Great Seto Bridge in the early morning light.

You picked the upper bed, does anyone sleep at the bottom. You said the room is solo and I would expect you are the only person sleeps inside the room. It looks like no space for a big luggage. Only a small space to fix the back pack. Nobody takes s big luggage. Yes you’re right, your bed looks like sleeping the closet, but our closet is bigger than your bed in the train.😛
