Here in Australia we like our food to be food and not full of hidden sugars and additives. We also like to know where our food comes from. There used to be a lot of myths surrounding Maccas, such as their chicken nuggets weren’t real chicken, and that they used pig fat to thicken their shakes, and their fries were laced with preservatives, so the company virtually had to reinvent themselves here to show that they worked with local farmers and that everything was fresh and clean, in order to win people over again.
@SeanSandyHouston3 жыл бұрын
I'm glad they are more transparent in Australia 🇦🇺! McDonald's in the US really lags behind other countries in terms of quality. I noticed food is generally more wholesome in Australia overall.

American's often say to Australians that that's not bacon. Americans are used to 1 style of bacon and they're also used to what they call Canadian bacon. What many Americans don't realise is this is because Australia has a very multicultural influence we have many different ways that bacon is cut. This means that we will have lots of things you wouldn't consider bacon and we use different types of names to specify the style of bacon. For example the bacon on the McDonald's burger can be referred to as shortcut or it's also lesser known as eye bacon.
@SeanSandyHouston3 жыл бұрын
Good to know and it makes sense since the multicultural differences are apparent in Australia! Defintely enjoyed the rasher of bacon on the big brekkie sandwich! Much better than the stuff in the states in terms of quality.

That doesn't really track cause the US is also very multicultural. I'm guessing it's just a quirk of how things were popularized.

Hi It looks like you went to Macdonds near Wynyard railway station in the CBD - it is a unusual theme, but i have seen 3 or 4 the same style inside. As for price, the basic burgers are cheap and remember $1 AU is about 70 cents USA, but the higher up range is more pricey Hungry Jacks is a competitor and it is a split on which is better, the salads tend to be more fresh and tasty - but they could just be colder. Many years ago you bought a value meal, and myself like most people would take the top bun of and place some fries on it then eat it, once the burger was eaten you ate the left over chips - i used to get stares from people in early 90's but now 80% of the people do it ( sort of like costanza eating a chocolate bar using knife and fork ). The traditional milk bar and hamburger store is almost gone in suburbia( same as basic fish and chip ), they are still around and the best is the deluxe or works, regular burger, 2 slices bacon, 1 x egg , 2 slices beetroot and if you ask you can have a sliced ring of pineapple The digital self serve displays have been here since 2016 that i know of - it does not make it any faster, but you just go straight to a table once you make your order Maccas coffee drive through is popular - often with the toasted sandwich or breakfast sized small muffin with bacon and egg or grilled sausage pattie I hope you enjoyed your visit to Australia Regards George

Loved the video but just have to point out one thing, rasher bacon is not quite the same thing as ‘short cut’ bacon, in the US you guys serve mainly what we call ‘streaky bacon’ (the rectangular, equal parts meat and fat bacon); ‘short cut’ is the top part with the oval of meat part, but we also serve the ‘foot’ part which is similar to short cut but with a little more meat. We eat every part of the pig but the squeak, every time I introduce Yanks to real bacon they’re like OMG, I didn’t realise 😁

I have watched people eat Maccas in different countries and is customizing your burger an Australian thing? I have seen people be surprised by double quarter pounders on menus. You can order a quarter pounder with 3 extra patties to make it a "pounder" you can replace big mac beef patties with mc chicken patties if you want, have big mac sauce on the side for nuggets or add it to cheese burgers is a big one. Also you can't always edit on those ordering machines but the counter can always customize to the way you like.

It's amazing to hear you say it's flavoury. Most people I know think of maccas as bland food. To get nice flavours it's usually the high price stuff. With the breaky cut off at 10.30am, some do have it available 24 hrs but not all. My local doesn't, I think it adds too much waiting time for customer orders (having that much on the menu and the kitchen unable to handle it).

Good old Macca’s. We call soft drink with ice cream on top a “Spider”. A rasher is the CORRECT term for a slice of bacon 🙄. Macca’s Australia was the first to introduce salads. We are very health conscious. Quality of food is a part of our lifestyle and that includes fast food “take-a-way” 🇦🇺

Some of us here might prefer American McDonald’s. Especially because here in Australia, fast food company’s try to be healthy. When l get fast food l expect it to be unhealthy with added colours and preservatives. Plus sometimes l wish our portions were bigger. Especially with the fries. They are delicious when served hot. There the complete opposite when there cold/warm. My favourite thing from maccas is the frozen coke. Because there only a $1 for a large, I’ll pick up 3 and put them in a bigger cup at home. I have a little bucket with a big cup in it with water around the outside of the cup that l keep in the freezer so the frozen coke lasts for hours.

all the beautiful food in sydney and they go for slop food, how quaint

It's pretty good from time to time. It also depends on the particular outlet you go to. For instance I find Gordon is better than my local one in Woy Woy which has slipped in standards compared to years ago.

Don't use the self serve screen. It puts people out of work. Go to the counter and order.
@melissabarrett9750 Жыл бұрын
The difference is that the self serve screen is never surly. I once walked out of that place because of rude service. Haven't eaten Macca's since

I hadn't been to Maccas in quite a while, so yesterday I went and got breakfast there. I ordered a large coffee and discovered that Maccas is as capable of deceptive sales practices as any other business. They have reduced the size of their *"large"* coffee so much that it barely qualifies as such. They've just lost another customer.
