i vintage shop a lot, and often pick up stuff with *special* smells... if it's really worth the effort, grab a bucket, give the item a boiling water+vinegar+baking soda bath, rinse and repeat a few times if needed, then throw it into a normal load of wash... i have even managed to salvage items with that horrendous cigarette curse using this method!! if it helps, pretend you're a witch brewing a nasty potion lmao

yesss can we normalize being disappointed with something we settled for at thrift store because we were desperate and really wanted that style and we convinced ourselves that it fulfilled that need in the store but have never worn it because it’s not right but feel too guilty to get rid of it. and finally allow ourselves to actually get rid of it and find something better.

thank you for that reminder to be mindful of donations to the thrift store. Yes, most of the unsold items probably goes to landfills but a part of what isn't sold is being shipped off to our country in southeast asia and these are the second-hand items being sold here. While I have found a lot of cool pieces from these importations, there so so many useless items that are being sold off like fun run t-shirts, university merch, company apparel, really tattered clothes and like stuff that nobody would really wear. Some people treat clothing donations as a feel-good way to throw away stuff.

girl GIRL. you NEED to get nipple stickers! I swear they will change your life! they are super affordable, are VERY comfortable on your skin (I literally slept for two days in them bc I didn't even feel them) and they obviously make your nipples not noticeable at all. heavily recommend! also, I think that your collection is very appropriately sized, but I've noticed you have a lot of basics. that's not bad at all obviously, but I feel like if you invested into buying just a little bit more statement pieces you could really elevate your look. but even without that, your fits fucking slap and you're AMAZING at styling your clothes! your videos bring me so much comfort, please never stop making them!! love love u

Vinegar in the wash is great for smells. If that doesn’t work, you can “strip” your clothes in the tub in (with borax and washing soda) to remove built up detergents, body oils, hard water residues. Its not something you should do frequently to your clothes, but once is ok to get a tough smell out.
@emmy8526

Smell tips to try in succession: - Soak in a baking soda solution. Wash. - Soak in fabric softener and vinegar solution. Wash. - Soap in a solution with shampoo/conditioner (all the better if it has essential oil in it). Wash. - Finally if none of the above work, the best one: air out in the sunshine (it has to be in direct bright sun) for as long as it takes. The sun does something magic to make undesirable smells go away.

9:23 There’s a few options regarding the shirt with the picture on the back that you like. I’ve done things before where I cut interesting logos or art off of shirts and use them as giant patches. I’ve sewn them onto the backs of jackets or hoodies, canvas bags, big purses, etc. Or use it for a project and turn it into a completely new shirt, bag, or pillow. My husband had this Pantera hoodie that he loved so much, but the sleeve cuffs were falling apart, so I made it into a throw pillow. 10 years later, it’s still on our couch.

For smells try the vodka method or the vinager/water method. It works on a lot of vintage smells and commonly used by resellers ❤ also the first shirt is a fabric we used to wear in the late nineties early 2000s and it is notoriously bad about retaining bo smells, I remember not wearing mine as often due to this terrible flaw with the fabric lol. In terms of the fall dress that you're not comfortable wearing because of nipples showing, I would really recommend the nipple covers by Cakes Body! They don't have adhesive like other covers, they're just a grippy material that sticks to you as long as your top is somewhat snug. And they can be reused for basically forever. I bought them on a whim for a dress I couldn't wear a bra for, but now I wear them regularly because they're so comfortable. Anyway just thought I'd mention it!

I was wondering what category was gonna have more of a similar style and was surprised it ended up being your white blouses (light color tops make me so nervous I could never!) About the wool coat: I also cannot stand wool touching me, so the one I have is strictly for and only comes out when it's cold enough that all my skin will be covered. Other than that, I think your closet is very reasonably sized- it seems realistic and manageable for the average person but the amount of variety says fashion girlie.

Ahhh, I love closet clear outs! And thank you for remarking on the unsustainability of donating! I know that where I live, there are some shelters for homeless people that take clothes, as well as women shelters. I'm trying to see if I can organize a clothing swap with the local queer community, so that's also a fun oppurtunity. And I am surprised to see that you don't own as much clothes as I thought you would which goes to show how amazing you are at combining them. I also love that you kept those two dresses that you were not currently a fan of but knew you would come around again. I've donated some things that I am quite sad about in retrospect, so allowing oneself to keep something for sentimental value or for another time is also the way forward I think.

Remove stains (under arms) from garments: (several options - can also combine). 1. Dish soap you'd use to had wash dishes.Have had best results with the kind that has orange or lemon extract in it / "plant based" dish soap. This works well on things that have oil in them. (Dripped butter on your shirt type of stuff. Also body oil. Ring around the collar, Want to get the odor out, have to get the oil out. Cover the stain with small squirt and rub it in a bit. Throw in washer. DO NOT add to washer soap dish, or you'll have bubbles coming out of your washer. 2. Oxyclean. Takes out most anything that is "organic" (food stains, baby spit up stains, blood etc.) A scoop in hot water; let sit for 24 hours. Good option after "dish soap cleaning" if stain persists. 3. Murphy's oil soap. - Requires washing after taking the stain out though. This works on heavy duty things like motor oil, machine grease, shoe polish, cooking oil that's hard to get out. These type of stains. Can also work on things like paint 4. Vinegar - Works great on urine stains / smell. Takes the smell out of stuff. Like if someone is on a medication that can cause body odor (like fish oil supplements). Medication someone might use to clean their liver which comes out in sweat.

15:33 what is the fiber content of the cardigan? If it's acrylic, you can soak it in hair conditioner to soften the fiber and make it less itchy. If it's wool, you can use wool soak (available at yarn store) or hand wash it with a couple of drops of lanolin to restore the natural oils in wool.

You could try white distilled vinegar to get rid of the smells. Works well getting rid of animal smells from their bedding

Pits! Get a spray bottle of 90% isopropyl alcohol in the first aid section of the pharmacy. Spray the pits. It kills any smell and also kills any bacteria hanging out in there to prevent it returning until it gets sweaty again. (You can also use vodka but why waste vodka?) this is a tried and true theatrical costume method for stuff that can’t be laundered between shows-or stuff that can be laundered but is still stinky 😂

Suggestions related to bra discomfort because I also struggle with that: - make a bra fitting appointment (seriously I was WAY off on my correct bra size despite measuring and following online instructions etc.) - Harpers Wilde makes good wireless bras (I don't like their wired bras though); I recommend the lounge scoop bra just make sure to air dry rather than putting it in the dryer or else the softness of the material will be ruined - pasties are nice when you just want your nips not to show but don't want to deal with a bra/a bra would ruin the look edit: also heard good things about aerie bralettes

Where I live, when we don't want clothes anymore we first ask family, then friends and if then there are still clothes left the friends ask their friends and so on. We never threw away something for years only if it had stains or not repairable holes:)

vinegar was already mentioned to help with the smell, but here's another method: i usually soak the garments in a bit of vinegar first (for a couple of hours) and then i will throw it in the washer while its still wet

@beepwrld I do have the same issue with exactly one of my t shirts. Even though I add soda and vinegar to my laundry to clean properly, this one shirt is still sometimes smelly. What I found works, is washing it at a very high temperature: 90°C every once in while and then let it air dry. The Tshirt is supposed to wash only at 40°C, but so far the washing on higher temperature has not done any damage to my garment. Be careful though, because I do not know what material your shirt is. Smell is usually caused by bacteria, so cleaning on higher temperatures kills all bacteria and then makes your clothes smell good again :) If the material doesn't allow for cleaning on high temperature, try killing the bacteria by disinfectant or by putting it in the freezer, where the bacteria cannot survive either.

With itchy wool I usually layer a turtleneck under, maybe not ideal, but works. If you wash it with softener just be careful to not shrink it ^^

When it comes to plain tshirts a bleach tie dye fixes that right up, especially if you're looking to add something interesting. And you can always dye over it if you wanna add more color into the shirt.

Smell armpit shirt: if you already have enzyme cleaner which you should because you have a cat, spray on there. Also you can try just smearing some dish soap on the pits before putting it through the wash-- its basically the same as clothes soap but super concentrated.
