Trying Out Affinity Photo for the First Time

In this video, I try out Affinity Photo 2 for the first time. I have owned the software for years as a back-up for Photoshop but I thought now is the time to see what it can and cannot do.

Fun fact: adjustments are none destructive, so you can go back anytime to redo stuff without loosing your work. AND the adjustments are masks so you can paint sertain areas of an adjustment if you didn't want to use it elsewhere. Great work. It's always hard to start a new. 😊 (goodluck on the rest of the journey)

The key word here is "learning curve". I've been a professional designer since 1993, and have left Adobe in 2018 (when affinity's DTP program was still not very stable). I haven't looked back. Especially the "Affinity Studio" in Publisher makes a lot of sense. It's up to personal choice, but you definitely don't need Adobe to efficiently deliver professional work. Keep up the good work on your videos.

Thanks so much for the comment! It does seem that Many professional can make it work for them. What I am hearing is photographers and some designers that need a high level of automation and file organization might have a bit of trouble making the switch.

If you are l looking for a Lightroom alternative so you can organize your files better (and work on your raw photos) you might want to take a look at acdsee. I use it only as a file organizer and use Affinity photo for editing photos. I moved away from Adobe years ago as the price was completely ridiculous.

Hopefully you've found the "Inpainting Brush Tool". That's what you wanted for most of the touch up. Actually does some/limited generative fill, albeit nothing like Adobe's. Still, much easier and better results than the clone tool. Thanks for the video ... looking forward to more.

Thanks for the tip on the "Inpainting Brush Tool"!!! I had not used that before. It is like the Spot Healing Brush in Photoshop. With tools like that I tend to use them first. If it works it saves me time. But sometimes I just can't get them to work and have to take the slow route with tools like the Clone Tool. Again thanks for tip!!
