This is why I love that ohuhu includes that little plastic/silicon sheet with their markers. But back when I was a marker artist I exclusively used Bristol board for them. I hated using anything else

Before using marker paper i used normal paper And its bleed a loooot! My room suddenly became a huge mess! So I used old X-ray tests and its working No weird texture at all

Thanks for including us in this video! One added benefit of using a good marker paper, especially an impermeable, coated stock, is that markers last a whole lot longer! Some artists consider it sinful to use good markers on newsprint, even for sketches, because it wicks away so much ink. We think maybe some different types of markers (with different solvent bases) might perform better on the papers that showed some bleeding, BTW

Here's the thing, marker paper is not meant to stop bleeding through, it's made to allow blending. It's a common misconception that marker paper stops bleeding. It does not. It allows the ink to sit on top for longer so it blends.

@@corncobbob2326 It's different from regular paper because its surface is less porous, thus it takes longer for the ink to settle. That's why it has such a smooth surface. There is no paper that stops the bleeding from alcohol markers, if you want to stop bleeding your only choice are water based markers, but those have their own drawbacks.

@@wrenithilduincats Yes but said sheet is there to prevent bleeding onto the next page rather than on the backside of this page. The issue I have with it is also that it's too small for bigger projects so I usually just slap an additional sheet of paper down in between.

I used to use cardboard, but I don’t trust it anymore after the ink on the board reactivated and bled back through the page lol From my experience, plastic works a lot more reliably since you can wash it in-between uses, and it also doesn’t have that lined texture that cardboard has.

Render sketchbooks are really good for markers and don’t bleed at all! I recommend trying one out

The really thin stuff is helpful for preventing bleed-though, but honestly I really hate that stuff. It’s so thin and fragile and the stuff I’ve used always has a weird freckled texture. I’d rather put another paper underneath instead of using paper that’s specifically made to not let the ink seep through. My favorite marker paper is definitely Ohuhu so if anyone needs suggestions I would seriously recommend that paper :D

Oh I think I know what happened, the sketchbook and marker set came separately. So they both came with their own. Which I really nice and one is smaller so it's nice when I need to fit it in smaller bags or sketchbooks

Yeah! I was looking through the comments for someone talking about plastic sheets. I still gotta make sure I use paper that isn’t torn up by my heavy blending and doesn’t feather easily, but honestly for me normal card stock works for that and as long as I put the plastic under I’m all good! So much better than trying to search for paper based on bleeding :D

I would actually recommend Crescent Moon's Rendr sketchbooks and paper! They are my favorite sketchbook by far, and their whole thing is that the pages don't bleed and it's amazing how true it is. It's also really thick and works for a lot of mediums- I also like using coloring pencils and watercolors on it. Go check one out next time! You won't regret it.

Yeah, I've been using that brand for years! It's my favorite because it's the only brand I've found where copics don't even bleed through to the other side of the paper. I can use both sides of the page without worrying about bleeding!

Personally, I prefer to use watercolour paper for my markers, because it doesn’t tend to bleed through and it has a pretty nice texture. You should try it!

I adore the Bee creative brand! It’s the only sketchbook I’ll use and I only use alcohol markers. I recommend the mixed media paper, it’s smooth to the touch and barely ever bleeds onto the paper underneath

I actually found probably the best sketchbook for markers. I ain’t an artist though, but I’ve layered ohuhu markers and coloured pencils on it and there’s no bleed none. Crescent creative products render sketchbooks, best ones I’ve found.

Ohuhu has really good mixed media sketchbooks, and I’m pretty sure they come with this layer that you can specifically put under the paper to stop bleeding

That's what I love about Ohuhu-Markers. They come with a small silicone mat which you lay under your marker paper. (And they are cheaper as Copic-Markers but have the same quality.)

I usually put clear film underneath my pages, it is easy to clean (and you have to, otherwise the dried color will reactivate the next time and will blend though), and it is a cheap way to procet paper or tables underneath.

I personally use heavy watercolor paper when I’m working with my alcohol markers. It only bleeds if you do some SERIOUS blending and if you’re planning on doing that, just put cling wrap under the page you are working on.

the best paper ive ever used for ink and alcohol markers was "cheap" cardstock. A 30 page pack was 5 bucks, no bleeding at all, no feathering. perfect

There’s also another good sketchbook that doesn’t bleed at all (You can even use it double-sided)! I got it from the Crescent Creative brand, and it’s the RENDR No show thru paper sketchbook. Though, it’s pretty pricy but worth it 😤

Best to look for is one’s that say they don’t leak through paper! I found many sketch books to use my markers on and they worked wonders, most often they are originally meant to handle paint and water colors, but are wonderful for markers.

U should try the Ohuhu notebook and their markers if u dont have them. Ohuhu does not bleed through the page, and with a plastic sheet to go with the notebook :D

I actually really liked blick sketchbooks and multi-media/marker books. Paper always felt nice and toothy, but not cheap. Stone paper is also a really fun one for no bleed. I am not skilled with markers or good with anything like this but I got a few from paletteful and was bold enough to play with and love it.

I have a simple sketchbook that I use copic markers in all the time. It bleeds a little but no matter how many layers I add, the next page is always still useable. I don’t think it’s made for that kinda stuff either, but watercolors work pretty good on it too without getting all the pages behind all wet.

I usually just use cheap watercolor paper for my marker art. It's not great for water colors, but it works really well with markers and it doesn't bleed.

You should consider trying pigment markers, either the Faber-Castell Pitt artist brush pens or the Staedtler Pigment Arts brush pens. They are archival and lightfast and don’t bleed through the page.

That super thin one is actually the best kind as far as I know. I've got manga-specific sketchbooks with that sort of paper, and they hold up to a LOT of layers.

You should try X-Press It paper. That's is what most stampers use for copic coloring!

U got some very good marker paper there but if i can recommend you one specific one, it is the "X press it blending card cold press marker paper". Not only do the colors blend on that paper like a dream, this paper is so gentle to the markers itself, the tips stay healthy for a long time! With other marker papers, i had to change some of my Copic tips pretty frequently but not with that one, not one single time so far.
