Trying out the new Carbon Cub's short field capabilities on Delores Point.

Some friends and I were going to explore some long abandoned Strips, but the Husky crapped an engine so we ended up hanging out on Delores Point till we figured out what to do. The strip is about 7200' high, so density altitude for most of these videos was well in the High 8000 range or possibly 9000'. It didn't seem to matter though, 200 ft was about all it needed for Landing or Takeoff at gross.

I love the placement of the flap handle. Simple, less linkage = less problems with it. In my opinion its in the correct location.

@Tavo3d I reduce flaps to take away lift. The same reason I pull them on briefly at rotation. I don't always reduce my flaps. Sometimes off airport there is just too much going on that I don't want the distraction. In the carbon cub it proves very easy due to the location of the flap handle.

He was for a day or so. We finally got in touch with a mechanic on the sat phone and talked over some options with him. We didn't accomplish what we wanted to, but we had fun either way.

@shagy2shagy Yea I got it in Oct. I didn't build it. This one is a LSA built by cub crafters. The EX is the kit version. While they are identical in build the one is a homebuilt, the other a production plane. I can promise the factory did a much better job than I could have : )

I love them. I have owned a few since this video and each one was nicer than the last. I have had the pleasure of owning or teaching in nearly every bush type plane and for pure takeoff performance it was in a league of its own.

When you say "at gross", were you at 1320 (Light Sport MGTOW), or the higher 1800-something that the Carbon Cub was designed to? I'm looking at building an EX to fly off our rural acreage, trying to get a better grasp of hot-and-high performance. We're up 2000 ft, but it can get hot in summer resulting in much higher DAs.

This video was at 8000 Msl in the 80 degree range at Lsa gross. We were able to land and take off in the 400' range comfortably. I can't comment on the higher weight, but these planes perform like crazy at that density alt. At 6000 Msl we routinely went in and out of 300' landing zones. With No obstacles 150' was totally reasonable at 5000' msl.
