So you start the video by saying that you can’t be an electrician if you don’t have a 2,5mm allen key. But then you complain about the product, because you don’t have a normal tx10 screwdriver and a normal small flat head electronics screwdriver. Which every electrician should have in their tool arsenal 😂😂 Love from Denmark, love the videos 😁💪

One nice thing about the Simpson & Partners charger, actually, is that it doesn’t rely on cloud services. It’ll work as a smart charger even without any data connection. If they go bust, the story with these is a lot better than most of the competition.

If I had to guess being that close to the power lines probably makes it hard to meet Cat6 requirements. But regardless, does it actually matter at all? No EV charger is going to exceed the bandwidth of a Cat5e cable.
@MarkUKInsects
@MarkUKInsects Жыл бұрын
@@BillsCountrysideAdventures Very little data, but Cat6 has larger conductors, so if you punch Cat5e into a Cat 6 patch panel, it will be a poor contact.
@aardwolf21

Cost. Current Gigabit is designed to run on Cat-5, Cat-5e is overkill, why overkill even more with Cat-6? If you are that bothered just use Cat-5e keystones in your panel......you are using a proper patch panel, not one of those home gamer rear punch things aren't you 😉😁
@MarkUKInsects
@MarkUKInsects Жыл бұрын
@@aardwolf21 Cat6 is typically only 10% more than Cat5e, and would only be a small part of the overall cost of the EV cable. No, not domestic patch panels. I suspect the way they are made they would be too fussy? keystones are not a great idea. And anyway, yes, there is sod all data on EV chargers today, but who knows in the future? I would guess that more than 95% of the Cat6 I put in is not needed, old Cat5 would more than do. But I want it future proof, as does the customer generally. When there is only a small price difference between Cat6 and Cat7a, I will put that in on new installs.

Now that you are doing more solar pv and battery installs it’d be good if you could do a bit more on the charger videos about compatibility with those systems and what the can and can’t do with them and different time of day tariff. It’s not as straightforward as just, it can do solar. Even the Zappi has limitations in what is possible. i.e. you can’t stop it from diverting excess energy at certain times if your tariff makes it advantageous to actually export to the grid at that time. You’ve just got to make sure it’s not plugged in which is a bit analogue

It is a waste to cut and replace a cable that is at most a couple years old. And to keep drilling into that brick? Brick and mortar isn't the easiest material to replace and have a good color match if the need arises in the future.
@zorot3876

I winced every time Jordan drilled into a facing brick instead of the mortar line which was often very close.
@blower1
@blower1 Жыл бұрын
I always avoid the mortar line, from experience - mortar can crumble and not hold the wall plug securely, resulting in it loosing grip and spinning. Doesn't always happen and depends on how good the mortar is. This is especially the case when you come to remove something, i have had many occasions where the mortar gives way and just leaves a massive hole upon removing the screw.

@@blower1 Agree but not on my own house. I would rather use a resin anchor than drill stone or facing brick.

He's a KZbin Star.... as such he can do as he pleases. Also Jordan is not his actual name so the chances of a DNO/Energy Supplier ever tracking him down are virtually zero. 😉 And anyway... they'd need evidence of him tampering with the cutout or meter and where are they going to find that eh? 🤣🤣🤣

Your landlord is going to love billing you for turning that section of wall into Swiss cheese… IIRC there was a TX10 driver and small flat bit driver in the 2021 Wera advent calendar, if not, every too store would be able to sell you appropriate sized drivers without resorting to 1/4” bits and extensions. Perhaps you’ve been away from the tools for too long.

Haha, now you have said this thats all I see, seems very cheap, just because it has some wood or wood effect, 1990's Rovers had wood effect on their dash, I dont consider them to be high end.. Would rather get a charger from a company that has been around a while like the zappi, we all know what happened to the last charger Jordan recommended as a high end charger..

The cable with the Cat5/6 included inside with electrical wiring... isn't there interference from running it in parallel? And also potential for induction (induced voltage in the internet cable)?
@farmersteve129
@farmersteve129 Жыл бұрын
The data cable is mostly just used for the CT connections which is just low voltage analogue rather than data. Aside from that,the twist of the core pairs is such that crosstalk and induced voltages are kept to a minimum.

It's the Miller and Carter of the EVCP world. It seems like it was designed by an architect or somebody of similar 'who gives a smeg how to install it, doesn't it look great' ethos. Perhaps they used to work for NEXT designing pain in the arse light fittings.

4:25 Haha, no way... You're using that tool from Dragons Den UK. That's cool. I thought that guy made something special and Peter Jones, who has obviously never mounted anything other than the opposite sex, thought you could just use a pencil or a sharpie. As someone who HAS had to mark a spot through a hole, I can promise him that you're never guaranteed to be marking dead centre that way. This tool appears to be the solution, and there it is right there!
