Using the X-Bull 13,000 pound winch on both the front and back of the truck. CAUTION: the volume is a little loud when the winch is running.

Nice down to earth demonstration. Years later, it’s still appreciated.

From my experience, using jumper cables to power the winch cuts a lot of power from the winch.
@SakimasRidgeHomestead6 жыл бұрын
I agree 100%. This is only a temporary solution until we get a newer truck in a few months. That truck will get the permanent plug in cable connections in the front and back. Fortunately these cables are very heavy and they clamp well to the battery posts, but the surface area of the connection is much less than if it was a bolted lug.

How would you recommend wiring the winch I was thinking about using jumper cable wire and cutting the ends off and wiring it permanently to the battery

We have a 12-volt. electric ramsey worm-gear driven 8000lb. winch that would drag those branches out easily. We have pulled really stuck vehicles/ tractors out with it. Cable has snapped a couple of times but it never stopped pulling. You get what you pay for.
@cornpop78054 жыл бұрын
There's no way you can tell from the video if your winch would have done the job. Those trees were pretty well entangled.
@SakimasRidgeHomestead4 жыл бұрын
The "branches were 40 to 50 foot tree tops from having the property logged. The winch was dragging the truck down the driveway. No winch on a truck would have pulled those tree tops out. Thanks for watching.

Man, I don't know what it is with folks always anchoring so low on a tree when trying winch; If it's a tiny tree, ok...low as necessary but, that tree had enough girth to go way farther up from the ground, thereby raising the end of your log up as you pull...a ton less friction/resistance. People do that crazy crap when pulling a buried vehicle too...straight to the anchor. If you have no choice, that's one thing, but when you have a 12 to 24" diameter tree you're anchored to, move that tree saver way up the tree! You want to LIFT your dead weight as much as pull it!

Hooking the winch up with jumper cables is like pulling a couple plug wires off a car, then testing its performance. The bag is not really necessary with a rope, but if used, it should be on the rope near the hook.

I thought about putting this winch on a Jeep TJ because it’s cheaper than a Warn and not near as heavy. Would you recommend that?
@adventures10243 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video. I had a quick question. How is the winch holding up 2 yrs later? You had any issues with and do you like it so far? I am interested in buying one. Thought I ask you guys. Keep up the good work.

Really haven’t used it much, but when we do, it has worked fine.

Video was helpful as a demo. I already ordered this winch after reviewing all too much info. Just to share, you were standing in the "danger zone" when operating the winch when pulling the trees. Should the winch block fail on that angle you were at, you could have had some object come fly at you. Also, at the start of the pull, you may have wanted to have the block a little higher on the tree, as the rope was dragging for a small portion on the ground (a very small portion albeit) at the beginning. Synthetic ropes I read don't handle that as well as steel cable. Be safe!
@frankmacdonald38854 жыл бұрын
Just for your own safety, you should not be standing in the sling area , we call the killing zone.
@dangerous83332 жыл бұрын
Synthetic ropes don't break like that. But it's still good habit.

carhartt bibs and wet snow don't mix.. they soak up water quick and won't dry.. to fix this i use mink oil or obenaufs leather lotion to cover from cuff to knee,the main area i found was getting wet.

The seller labeling this winch 13,000lbs is ridiculous. IMO it's a 10k at best. I think it should be treated as an 8k if you want it to last. I paid $250 for it, and it works great on my little 4k Jeep. It also makes the loudest grinding/growling noise that scared me at first, but is working fine so far.
@phrogusmc4 жыл бұрын
The seller also says to use two 12V batteries. It'll likely get more power that way. Or at the very least a higher amp alternator.
@xaphan85812 жыл бұрын
Is it noticeably different on your jeep? I’m looking to get one for a 04 ranger and it was between this or badlands
@benmudn2 жыл бұрын
@@xaphan8581 How do you plan on using it? The X-Bull has been great. But I use it only a couple times a year and it's kept inside. I really like the weight savings and safety of the synthetic, but it does not like abuse like steel cable can take.
@xaphan85812 жыл бұрын
@@benmudn I really am looking for one I can keep on full time because I live in the middle of nowhere where we get a lot of snow. I really don’t go off-roading a lot so I think I would probably hardly use it just more of a I’d rather have it and not need it then need it and not have it. Plus the bumper I have has a winch spot
@xaphan85812 жыл бұрын
Oh and that’s why I was looking at the 13k one because I figured it might be under powered and I think typically I would need a 9k one. Also never used a winch or owned one

Looks like quite a bit of line stretching. As that synthetic line breaks in the pulls will be quicker.

You rely on the battery to run winch? And BTW, do not stand that position, very very dangerous in case the wire broken! stand in the other direction will be safier.

The LORD be magnified. The shorter the 12 volts cables the better they work. 12 volts do not work well with long wire

I'm happy with the results so far. I just hope I don't have issues in the spring when the grass is higher with not having enough horsepower. The cutter is rated slightly higher than what my tractor produces. Thanks again for suggesting a flail mower in my earlier video, I would have never considered one without your suggestion. And thanks for watching.

Would a stand-alone battery be advisable? Would it drain the battery too fast? Would it even work?

It would probably drain it too fast. I'm sure it would work in a pinch, but not for long.

I've been using a regular truck battery, not deep cell, and moving trees around. Barely uses any power. I have my battery charger hooked up to it and I haven't even needed to turn it on yet.

Hey! You guys are the best, thanks for taking the time to make the vid! I’m really glad to see it all work, especially with the jumper cables at the rear of the truck. I have the exact same set up (xbull 13,000lb, receiver mount, and 25’ jumper cables) sitting on the garage floor. I’m right in the middle of mounting it’s little brother the 4,500lb on my Side by Side. The 13 is next on my list because you guys got me wanting to drag some trees around! LOL! Thanks again to both of you! Pat

Next question: Has anyone ever tried to hook up power to these trailer hitch mount winches via the trailer hitch wiring harness ports? Not enough power coming from those?
@SakimasRidgeHomestead5 жыл бұрын
The trailer hitch wires would probably melt quite quickly. I have a set of 2ga wires with plugs like the "jumper cables" I used in the video I will be adding to the F350 soon to give a dedicated plugin location on the front and rear. I'll upload a video when I do that installation as well.

i dont get it should have pulled it like butter but it did not try a new battery and run your truck at all times. battery cables will not do as the tooth of the cabiles does not give plenty of metal to metal surface to touch. gots to be as good a connection as your truck cabiles to your starter. your losing amps regardless if you see 12 volts or more....best of luck
