I'm surprised that anyone I watch who plays this recently doesn't think to send Morgona, the smallest party member and self-proclaimed thief, after the crown during the boss battle. I didn't even know that you could win the fight without doing that part.

They screwed up the difficulty so bad that it's basically impossible to do enough damage to keep him distracted on hard/merciless, at least not without a lot of grinding.

Killing someone is an easy way out. Changing their heart while also morally dubious but end result is you get: - A changed man actually regretting their actions who will never hurt anyone else. - Satisfaction of watching them destroy everything they've built and LIVING to suffer the consequences and stuff. Ann by sparing Kamoshida basically just chose "Fate worse than Death (Light Edition)" for him. She didn't want to give him an easy way out - she wanted him to suffer.

morgana's "ill back out and focus on support" line when he dies is just because he still gives you advice and stuff in battle even when he's "dead"

making kamoshida repent w/ anime magic was the only way he would ever stop and repent for his crimes. he was a truly evil man and no amount of therapy or help wouldve fixed him, that's how evil he was. the only way to end the cycle of kamoshida's abuse was to have him admit to his crimes. killing him wouldn't have brought anything to light, ppl wouldve probably just been like "heaven gained another angel today🙏 changing kamoshida's heart was the only way

Hot take hard is kinda harder than merciless, cause with merciless all weakness are bumped up quite abit to the point where if you play around it you can start to one shot shadows around the half way point, although if joker is hit with an attack that's his weakness without decent armor he getting 1 shot, doesn't make the series any less injoyable just an though I've had after playing through p5r afew times

i Played on hard in my first playthrought, and the second i put it on merciless thinking okay this gonna be even worse... but turned out after a bit of a struggle in the start it was alot easier than hard the weakness damage is just to insane pretty bad difficulty setting should swap hard and merciless arround tbh

Overall, if you cant crit or hit an enemy weakness, merciless is harder. Though normal fights are definately harder on hard since u dont one shot them

I do disagree with the views on the stealing of hearts thing, from what i got it was the only way to make him realize how bad his actions were, and the only way to stop him other than killing, in other words he was too far gone so his heart needed to change

The way they phrase it is as if he's confessing to something he didn't do. In reality, all they did was remove what made commit these crimes in the first place, and what's left is for his conscience to reason with. They aren't forcing a confession, the criminals choose to do so. Like the entire point of P5 is that the law won't do jack shit to these people and they'll only keep hurting others. The game does highlight the dubiousness of changing hearts on multiple occasions. But claiming that just offing him is the better option is naive. The victims would never get closure that way.

You should probably adjust it down to Hard. Merciless has this thing where hitting enemy weaknesses is like 3x more than Normal? Only thing about Merciless is just if you yourself get hit, then prepare for a dump truck ramming into ya. If you want a bit more of a harder experience via doing less damage to enemies, then might as well adjust it down to Hard.

TL;DR: If "stealing someone's heart" is morally wrong than are police questionings where the suspect confesses also morally wrong? Since both required an outside force to achieve the same result? I never thought of "stealing someone's heart" as morally dubious since to me it's like convincing someone they did/were doing something or (and this is more appropriate) them coming to terms that they were doing something terrible. If that is morally dubious than legal interrogations/questionings where the interrogated person confesses is also morally dubious, more so even, since the person being questioned is aware of what is going on in front of them. At least with this way, sure you beat the shit out of their shadow, but afterwards without that shadow to twist what they are doing they see what they had done in a clearer light.

The "we should have just killed him" argument is such a shallow view of what's going on. Kamoshida would never change on his own, is protected by the school and parents despite them knowing what's going on, the aligations against him are coming from people who have been labeled as delinquents or untrustworthy and killing him in the real world would only make it more likely his crimes will be covered up permanently and you'll be put in jail while he is memorialized and remembered as a good person. This game even touches on this later because the moment someone the thieves targeted dies, the thieves start losing everyones support and are turned into public enemy #1. Is that really the outcome you want? Death is not the worst punishment you can give someone, its actually kindness in most cases. You can't just kill scum like this and expect it to work out, especially for someone in Jokers position. People who immediately jump to "let's just kill them" usually don't actually think about the consequences of their actions and usually end up making things worse. Also the rebuttal of "what if they just don't confess their crimes" ignores the part where they become a truly honest person crushed by the weight of their sins and thus are incapable of doing that. Just because you don't like the method doesn't make it the wrong one. Not to mention, even if the world tries to let him off, he won't be able to do that for himself and thus is guaranteed punishment for the rest of their lives. Which is worse, dying or having to live the rest of your life crushed by your own guilt with no possible chance of escaping it?

Good strategy for the Kamoshida fight: Have everyone at level 11 cause Morgana learns Media, Ryuji learns Headbutt, and Ann learns Tarunda. Fuse Kelpie and Jack-o-Lantern/Cait Sith to get Obariyon. Snap deals medium gun damage so it's worthwhile. During the battle. Ryuji cast Tarukaja on either you or himself to increase damage. Ann cast Tarunda on Kamoshida to debuff his damage. Morgana cast Media to heal the team. Spam Ryuji's Headbutt and Obariyon's Snap after Tarukaja and Tarunda. Other personas that cast useful buff or debuff skills in your inventory can help in a pinch. Rinse and repeat, should work wonders.

As many people have pointed out, hard is probably a more difficult setting than Merciless, however I think that Merciless is the more fair and enjoyable difficulty. Merciless is easy if you know what you're doing but it is more based around preparation, skill, and using the benefits from all of the different features and side quests the game provides for you. I think Merciless is a better designed and more fun experience, but that's just me.

To be completely honest, I've always felt like the change of heart thing was a shallow victory too. I understand the point of it and everything, but to be honest... the post-change-of-heart versions of the villains aren't even themselves anymore, they just magically become good people. When I played the game, I didn't want to see "boohoo I've been so bad" Kamoshida get punished, I wanted to see the actual, evil piece of shit Kamoshida get punished and suffer for it, 'cause at that point you're not even punishing the same person who did those things. Killing him wouldn't have been enough, but I'd comfortably take that over the "magically make them good" consolation prize.
