Trying How to Pick Locks with cheap amazon kits. Sponsor: Try AcornTV free for 30 days by going to acorn.tv/ and use promo code nerdecrafter (lowercase) . Let's try lock picking with lockers and house locks. I tried picking a lock with a bobby pin and with a stethoscope. Previously, I tried piercing for the first time such as septum piercing, tongue piercing, nose piercing and ear piercing at home. This at home kits is from Amazon and Aliexpress for the silicon parts. This was a fun DIY challenge and I have so much respect for professional locksmiths.

I actually work for a company that sells basically THESE exact same locks that you have in the video. These are basically the very beginner locks that you can try out. The picks that you got in the BLACK POUCH are the cheapest of the cheap that you can get for lock picking... But they're good for beginner. Also know that "Criminals" will not use their time to break into someone's house with lock smithing, they will just break something! ANYONE WANTING TO TRY AND UNLOCK STUFF WITH LOCKSMITHING - DO NOT and I REPEAT DO NOT try and lock pick ANY locks in your own house because it can DAMAGE the lock and pins! ONLY use it on training locks or buy locks that you DONT CARE about.

When my husband and I started dating, we stepped out onto the front steps to have a smoke (we’ve both quit, so no worries). Forgetting that my front door locked automatically, he pulled it shut too fast for me to stop him. Only problem…it was early November, roughly 20 degrees, both of us were coatless, and I was barefoot. I’d been standing on the thick mat on the top steps, which was perfectly adequate for a 10 minute smoke. We wound up waiting for over an hour for my roommate to get home and let us back in. While we waited, he wrapped my feet in newspapers from his car, and walked to the corner gas station to buy me a great big cup of coffee as he had dressed far more warmly than I. I knew then and there he was the one.

I highly recommend going over to Lockpicking Lawyer's youtube channel and watching him at work. Firstly, he clamps his locks in a vice so they hold steady, which would help your finger pain problem. He also has done reviews on lockpick sets, which might be helpful information to have. And if you go back to 2016, he did a vid called How I Practice Lock Picking, which is great info. If you really want to be able to pick locks, I suggest his video A Lock Picking Game Changer, where he demonstrates a tool set that is meant and actually effective for beginners. While I really enjoy his vids for education, yours are far more entertaining. Thanks for the laughs.

I actually had the first pick locking kit the cheaper one and I got pretty good. One day I actually ended up going to school and I was doing GCSES and I was in art and we needed something out of a locked cabinet for our exam prep but all the teachers have gone home so I actually was able to break into it with two Bobby pins, I put everything back and locked it up afterwards (once again with two Bobby pins). I did end up telling the teacher but she wasn’t angry due to the fact that we were the older kids and allowed to go in the cupboard.

You should see lockpickinglawyer's videos, he explains the process really clearly in short videos. The principle is that each pin needs to be raised individually. The tension bar keeps tension on the barrel so that you can press each one up individually and they should 'set' into a raised position. When each pin has been set in their 'gate', the tension bar will be able to turn and unlock ❤️ love your work! 😍

As a past career criminal, who has genuinely served time, I can say I've never been prouder. Locked out of your house or not, this is superrrrrr handy to know. Car locks especially. As far as the other "hobbies" you've picked up, those can take you places to if you get good at them. It's part of those things, like clean hygiene when tattooing and piercing, suturing a cut, that is incredibly useful information. And I am glad you're sharing that. My idea for a next vid, is trying prison/jail recipes. Though if you do that you're def going all the way over to a criminal theme lol. I'm sure we will all love any crazy thing you get yourself into. Keep it up Nerdethug🖤 #OG

23:49 That does look like the correct rake tool, and you do use it by basically just moving it back and forth. The ridges on your rake tool look a lot sharper than the ones on mine, so that might make things more difficult if those sharp peaks are catching on the pins and the pins aren't wanting to move because of tension. The rake tool is somewhat of a "cross your fingers and wait to get lucky" type of tool (You're raking it back and forth in hopes that the random ridges combined with the tension you're applying to the cylinder will result in the pins lining up on their own), as opposed to the hook tools which are generally meant to get more precision so that you can work with one pin at a time and align them yourself. Basically, you've just got to experiment to find the tool and way of moving it that works best for you.

I've been trapped out of my parents house on a multitude of occasions within the past 10 years, I am 25 (do the math). If it hasn't been a broom accidentally blocking the door, the door frame worps, then there is the possibility of a door knob malfunction. My neighbor on the other had has accidentally locked herself out before; her solution is going through one of her unlocked windows herself, or tossing one of her children in the house. As a child I was also sent through an unlocked window at my grandmother's because she had locked the door with the house keys inside. (If I remember that time correctly, I went both in and out the window. It was the first time I got to go in through a window, when coming out the window my mother asked "why?" Just simply so I could say I went in and out of a house through a window, only reason. I'm just an odd ball 😂❤.)

I remember when my grandfather (licensed locksmith) began to teach me. He gave me a paper mate pen and a paper clip my only other tool a pair of pliers. I had to use the metal of the pen cap to make a torsion rod, and bend the paper clip to a 45 degree angle to make a pick. It did work on the basic blue band master lock fairly easily… oh and the crappy plastic locks are super super easy lol. You need to apply constant pressure to the wrench so when you raise the pins they get caught on the way down.

I have unlocked the double ended lock with "raking" before, which is moving the pick back and forth in the keyway. I believe that is the correct method, but it can take some time to figure out. You opened your kit exactly like I did! I also went back to the other locks to gain confidence again. I also tried to pick my front door, way harder than the locks I got.

I remember when I got locked out of my house back when I was in middle school. I kept pulling on the door handle until I broke it open. I broke the metal piece that has a hole where the lock thing goes to keep it closed. So my dad had to push something to keep the door from opening on its own as it didn't close properly anymore. My dog walked out in the middle of the night, used the restroom and walked right back in because the door opened on its own. The next day my dad replaced the part I broke with a much better one and the door would finally stay closed. It was also able to lock properly again...

And my Godfather and Dad were the locksmiths 😊 (Lots of drama, but not the point lol 😁) I had plastic key rattles, and once I could walk, I was given a few real locks and they tried to teach me and left the locks with me to fiddle with like a puzzle 🧩 Unfortunately, I proved to have no lockpicking prowess and so after a few years I lost interest… If I had these locks to learn on, might’ve been different, but I don’t know if they even existed thirty years ago… 😆 Point is, I feel your pain! 👏

Love the video. When I was young my eldest brother taught us all to open locks, with combination locks you can feel it click. The reason he taught us was two fold, keep us occupied and the kids at school would lock their bikes up and either lose their key or forget their combination. One day my son couldn't open his combination lock he'd been playing with. He rung my brother who told him to give it to me. The shock on his face when I opened it and wrote down the number for it. 🤣 When I was a kid keys were left in metre boxes so never needed to break in. I now have grandkids.

My uncle taught me some basic lockpicking. It's fun, SO SATISFYING, and came in incredibly handy at work. A big part of our business was salvaging and reselling used office furniture, and LOADS of times we'd get desks and cabinets and whatnot that were locked with no keys. We had to break and replace the entire lock before, until I learned how to pick them. I promised my boss that I would never use that power for evil. ;)

My husband and I have multiple lock and pic sets and use them as fidgets basically. In doing so we both can pick a pad lock in less than 10 seconds. A tip for the "harder" padlock, just a normal pin set whereas the "easy" lock had almost no pin set, you have to set each pin individually. The notches in the middle of the pin is where you need to get it to click. So push each in up individually to where the notch is visible and slowly drop the pin so it sets. Go slowly from pin to pin so you don't knock any set pins back down. Also any lock from a set that you can put the pick in all the way and just push it up to get the pins in is not a good lock to train with. Again you should have to set each pin individually

my boyfriend locked his keys in his car one day and he had to stay over since there wasn't a 24hr locksmith place, so we could call one in the morning. he did have a lockpick kit that he's used numerous times, he is really bad about leaving his keys just wherever and not in his pocket, but the car lock was way too complex. since that incident, he has given me a spare key so if it happens again, i can help him out 😹

I'm not trying to be Karen, and I haven't finished the video yet, so it's entirely possible Jackie mentions this, but I did want to warn people to check your local laws if you're interested in learning how to pick locks. It's illegal/basically illegal to even own a set of these tools in some places, like Nevada, Ohio, and Virginia in the US, and I'm sure there are many other places around the globe where owning a set of lock picks is illegal. And don't ever pick somebody else's locks for money without a license, or you can get in huge legal trouble almost everywhere. It's an amazing and cool hobby! Totally fun to see people trying it out. I just don't want anyone in legal hot water over it.

a scope will work Jackie , you need to put tension on the top by pulling upward so the keys will notch in the proper place. then you will feel the slight stiffening of the dial and a slight small click as the number passes by.There is a more advanced explanation if you look it up :) Btw great video.

With a stethoscope, try tensioning the actual lock (pull up on the actual part that comes out of the lock) and try both pressing firmly and pressing lightly on the stethoscope. Doctors can choose how deeply they listen to your body by pressing harder or lighter on the stethoscope to choose whether they’re listening to your heart or your lungs generally. On top of that, if you put that tension on the lock, you’ll likely be able to hear more effectively when you hit a notch that causes a pin to fall out of place or whatever until the lock itself can be pulled open.

Yay, lockpicking!! Lockpicking is a hobby of mine! You did really well! The different picks just manipulate the pins in slightly different ways- in my experience it's kind of trial and error as to which pick works best in which lock. I tend to favor the rake (the jagged one you tried on the house lock) but I use smaller ones that aren't as pointy as the one they gave you. I'm not condoning escaping from handcuffs, but handcuff shims are neat. Trying to escape from handcuffs might be fun to do, although I'd recommend not doing it alone so you don't get stuck.

FYI, you can totally pick a lock with a bobby pin. Well, actually, 2 Bobby pins. You just need to bend them. I once accidentally locked a room in my house and had to get it open. It took me over an hour. Edit: never mind, you get to bobby pins later. The stethoscope works too, you just have to pull up slightly on the shackle/shank in order to hear the clicks.
