In the north: Anything with fish or shrimp In the south: Mehlspeisen (made from sweet dough, all kinds of local variations of pancakes) often fried or with fruit. And Knödel. All over: All kinds of local sausage specialties. And the rotissery chicken truck only comes on certain days, take the chance when you get it! Snack a half-chicken that tastes like actual chicken...

Döner has a yoghurt sauce (there is also a hot spicy yoghurt sauce as well which has usually then a redish/orangeish colour instead of white) and no cheese sauce.(the only cheese which you´ll find in a Döner is the Feta cheese which is put in) The bread is a turkish Pita bread ("türkisches Fladenbrot" in German)....the Italian Panini bread is a totally different bread in the making/is no Pita bread and has a different shape, size, taste and different texture and simply will never be used for a Döner foremost because it is an Italian bread. Just to clear things up....By the way the Döner Sandwich looked a bit plain...missed the cabbage salad + tomato slices..or in other words "missed the colours". Which seems to be a hard challenge foodwise especially for Americans is the by Germans loved "Mettbrötchen" (but has to be bought at a good butcher´s ..avoid Grocery´s for that matter). "Mett" is seasoned and ready to eat minced raw pork by the way...and I wonder if you have the courage to try raw pork meat on a bread bun.

The fun part about kebabs is that as soon as you find "your" kebab shop and have visited it a few times, you're almost part of the family 😁 That's what I like about my Turkish or Kurdish kebab shops. You come in, you don't need to say anything big and you get exactly what you want. Usually there is also a cup of tea while you wait. At least that's how it is where I live.

Looking at that Döner i can already tell that you are well advised to try different shops in your area as well. Dönerbuden vary *a lot* and the one you ate in the beginning is one i would not even consider buying, let alone try. It is hard to tell, but even the meat looks rather suspucious they way it is cut and the colouring seems off.

There are usually two meat choices, veal and chicken, of course you can't get pork there for religious reasons. There is also lettuce, onions, coleslaw in red and white, tomatoes, cucumbers sometimes parsley too and various sauces to choose from. Including a yoghurt-garlic sauce, a hot sauce and, if necessary, a cocktail sauce. You can also extend the döner kebab with sheep's cheese. This doner kebab is missing large parts of the lettuce and thus their fresh taste. There seems to be only coleslaw and onions and this is clearly not enough.

originally it is turkish food and on a plate, but then a young turk came to berlin and invented to put it in a sliced pita bread so that it could easily be taken away and eaten "on the go". thus the döner that most people eat today is "real" :-) german food and then spread from here. and of course, when they were from the same store, the döner and the plate looked quite similar :-) no matter how bad/sparse the ingredients and how squashed (not only from transport) it looked :-(

Döner is actually the name for the türkish bread wrap, without its called Kebab. And it can have all kinds of stuff with it, cabbage, onions, tomato, chili and god know what else. The meat in Germany is usually pork or chicken, lamb only in some places (to be "halal", meaning clean for muslims), never any beef really. The true german street food is no doubt Bratwurst or Currywurst (which is basically the same except for the sauce), and perhaps Frikadellen (meat balls), Bockwurst ( a boiled sausage), Kotelett (pork chops), or also grilled chicken. And a variety of things depending on the region you are in.
@nicklenz7030

You will definity have no pork in Döner because it is not halal. It will always be veal or poultry.

Try for ordered/fast food: Dönerpizza, Sucukpizza, Bratwurst im Brötchen, Bulettenbrötchen, Fischbrötchen (for that Nordsee is a good place), Steakbrötchen, stuff from a bakery (sandwiches but mostly just savoury pastries). Together with the Döner and Currywurst you then have most of the German fast food. Try for self-cooked or in a restaurant: Spätzle (bonus for Kässpätzle), Maultaschen (bonus for making a lasagna out of it, culinary peak of many a students meals), Rouladen (both Rindsrouladen (beef) and Krautrouladen (cabbage) are good), Schweinebraten (a good opportunity to try Klöße, Knödel or Rotkohl), grüne Soße (both a sauce and a dish that includes the sauce with eggs and potatoes), Grünkohl mit Pinkel, Haxe, Königsberger Klopse, Zwiebelkuchen, Spargel (traditionally with ham and potatoes and sauce hollandaise) and any number of fish dishes. With that you have tried most of the famous local stuff I can think of at the moment.
@Kimanox

Meat looks good. The selection of vegetables is a bit odd/sparse. Apart from the animal, there are two types of meat in a kebab. The one you have is made up of thin meat layers (typically calf/ lamb or chicken, which is better quality wise and my favorite) or minced meat (calf or lamb, which I think is worse, but some of my friends actually prefer it and you usually get more meat in your döner with that type, probably because its cheaper and volume is artificially increased with non meat ingredients.). Some places do the layering of the meat in house and these are usually the better ones. Turkish food is kind of like the mexican food of germany in witch its coming from a "exotic" country not far away and you can get it at any corner. And as mexican food is slowly growing in germany (maybe exept bigger cities where it is established), döner kebabs are slowly getting recognized, at least in the US metropoles. And great videos by the way :) SUBSCRIBED

Ah, but Döner isn't just populer German street food, but also quite popular in the Netherlands. Although I bought mine more on stations than on the street, I guess, but still. Arguably trainstations are part of the street, I guess. But hey, it's good to pick up and eat in the train if you travel far enough. A "broodje döner", I mean. Or I guess in German "Brödchen döner". With garlic sauce, hhot sauce and that typical Turkish sauce, which is also in the fridge here, but I can't remember the name.

Heather may eat a Döner Kebap too. I am sure she can order a Döner without Meat. You can order a döner just with Meat, without Vegetables, if you want to. So it shouldnt be a big deal to get a Döner without meat, but only vegetables. Another popular german fast food is Currywurst. But it depends from which Imbis you buy your Currywurst. But generally its an okay fast food to be honest. I like the taste too of a good currywurst, but it can not beat a restaurant meal. But you can not compare streetfood with restaurant food obviously. A speciality is the VW Currywurst. VW = Volkswagen. But as far as i know, you only get it around the city of Wolfsburg in northern Germany. Not fast food, but how popular is Suhsi in USA? I do not know any good Sushi restaurants in Wiesbaden. But for god sake, please avoid the Okinni Suhsi Restaurant in Wiesbaden. I can NOT recommend it!!! If you like different Ofenkartoffeln, i can recommend the Kumpir & Salat in Wiesbaden. It is small restaurant, but a variety of Ovenpotattos and very good in my opinion. It would be interesting if you would do a video about an american restaurant in germany vs an american restaurant in america. I recommend the Sports Bar in Wiesbaden and even better is the Freeway B42, American Restaurant, Bar & Rooftop in Rüsselsheim. But if you go for the Freeway B42, American Restaurant, Bar & Rooftop, i would highly recommend a booking. Otherwise you enter and will leave soon hungry, because no table is free. Keep in mind, you may have trouble to find a parking place for your car. The restaurant is close to the Autobahn. The Milk shakes there are a dream of pleasure! I had a Chicken Burger last time. Very delicious. But i have heard any Burger there is well. I really would love to see a video Freeway Restaurant vs any american restaurant in America.
