Oh amazing! It's like KZbin is listening to me, this came up in my recommended because my boyfriend and I are doing a road trip to Fruška Gora and Sremski Karlovci in a few days! 😍 Great to have a bit of a sneak peak before we go!

Sremski Karlovic use to be very important cultural center back in the day, it was place of higher learning, especially in 1800s, and even now it has important gymnasium that many attend. Obviously in modern times universities and higher education has moved to big cities like Belgrade and Novi Sad, but Sremski Karlovci has lot of historical value and it actually has fair share of tourism. It's also good weekend spot for people from Novi Sad because it's only like 15-20 minute drive.

So to speak traditional 'pljeskavica' with vegetables (fresh or pickled) and sauces is the main reason why McDonalds is not very popular in Serbia and the whole Balkan region... BTW 'teletina' is 'veal' in English :) !!! I am so happy watching you, I am on furlough pay here in the UK, will be back to work on 17th May and I haven't been to my country since October 2019 to see my family and friends and your videos are heartwarming so to speak!!! I am always happy to see people especially from UK and USA visiting my country posting vlogs, YT videos and having a superb time because we were many times 'Satanized' by western media to be the worst people in the whole world.... BUT nice open-minded people like you prove them to be wrong and they shed a true light to my country and people! Thank you so much guys and keep up !!! :o)

If you'd like to try vegetarian options, ask the restaurant staff for a fasting menu (posna jela). In Serbian Orthodox Christianity, fasts last for weeks in turn (plus Wednesdays and Fridays). In total religious people go practically vegan for about three months a year. There is quite an elaborate fasting cuisine in Serbia.
@НемањаТодоровић-ш5х3 жыл бұрын
Not three month. Summary, depend on Easter day, it will be more than 200 days of fasting in year.

Sač (Sach) is metalic or more traditionaly clay dish/pot/container with bottom and top halfs, but what makes it unique is that you are to embed the dish into the glowing embers, like barbeque without flame. You make the fire with larger chunks of wood or coal and let them turn into embers, but you make enough of them to encircle entire dish all around but top and bottom also. Since dish is closed, there is no evaporation so all the juices and seasoning remain and make meat and potato tender/soft. In this case meat is "cooked" together with potatoes and seasoning.

I actually grew up in this street, back when the part you were in was just meadows. there were cherry trees there which we would plunder. we had about 6-8 kids going in the same class at school all in one street. really appreciated the aerials :-))).
@peto70203 жыл бұрын
You should check out the local high school and its history. that is my high school. also: during the 1999. bombings this street was closed off to people who were not living there because a large amount of anti-airplane artillery was based in the hills you saw around Belilo. We knew the bombing were coming because it took the military weeks and weeks to set it all up before it started. the whole street was a very stressful place to be because our houses would be shaken by the artillery shooting at the planes, naturally we would also be scared that bombs intended for the artillery would hit us, but also because the airplanes would turn overhead, maneveuring around Novi Sad so there would be a LOT of noise. the first bomb to fall 1999. outside of Kosovo was between Novi Sad and Sremski Karlovci.

If you are still in NS then try Project 72. It's rated as the no 1 restaurant and is a fine dining restaurant for the price of McD in Western Europe. Their base stands on traditional ground but with a refined twist. It's the best quality per price ratio I have ever had anywhere in Europe. I would like to point you to just a few things. The food in Serbia is one of the last few safe havens in Europe regarding non-GMO food. The meat is equivalent to GMO veggies food from the UK maybe a little bit healthier than vegetables from the UK..Taste of veggies in Serbia is incomparable, it's like two dimensions. When you were in Serbia I presumed that a lot of veggies were out of season food, which means they were imported from Turkey, Albania, Spain or Holland. Regarding the fruits in the season, there is no match in the whole world, not just in Europe, the taste of fruits in Serbia is out of this dimension.

One advice for you. I mean your videos about food are brilliant but you should explore historical destinations all the way Danube river. There was born first civilization in Europe called Vinca civilization. Start from Novi Sad and go all way to Bulgaria. You won't see any similar places anywhere in Europe. For example in Petrovaradin museum you can see tools that human used 100.000 years ago.

And pljeskavica is crap compared to teletina ispod sača. Teletina ispod sača, if prepared well, is one of the ultimate meat dishes. There are very few meat dishes in the world which can match it with quality and taste.
