Trying the Ancient Chinese Art of Fire Ear Candling (almost passed out)

Today I’m trying ear candling, which has an ancient history in China and is related to moxibustion. It involves burning a flaming candle with mugwort smoke in and around someone’s ear. (No joke!) It’s based on traditional Chinese medicinal theories about dampness and coldness - the idea is that the moxibustion is supposed to remove these things from the body. This is a crazy treatment and it was truly terrifying, though ultimately harmless. Just please be careful and only do this under the supervision of professionals. It is more of like the temperature difference between the internal temperature and the cold waters temperature. It may not seem so, but our body is really hot inside, and drinking cold water can cause issues internally since you abruptly bring it down by drinking cold water.

You simply _don't_ say "我救了你的屁股 (I saved your butt)" in Chinese, it's just really weird and it doesn't make any sense here. She said "I saved your life." If I were translating a novel or something and I see this line, I'll only translate it as "I saved your ass" if the character is like...gangsta or something, haha. I don't get that vibe from the woman, so I wouldn't have translated it that way in the subtitles. Too exaggerated.

At my first Covid test, I was a bit freaked at the length of that naso-pharyngeal swab (seemed long enough to poke out the back of my head), and asked if I should brace my head against the truck window opening to avoid flinching. The nice young nurse was priceless, and assured me they've never pulled back brain matter... yet! After the swab, she asked how was it? I told her not bad at all -- I've _almost_ had my finger back that far! She and her fellow young nurse giggled like schoolgirls. Lesson-learned, for them: You swab an old fart in a Dodge truck, you gotta expect some 'dad humor'.... 😂

Ear candling doesn't work. There's been numerous tests done; If you set candles on fire without putting them in ears and then open them, they will have the same amount of was inside them as candles you put in ears. Theres no way for the wax in your ear to travel out of it and teleport into the candle. I have full respect for Chinese culture, but you can't just do things that make 0 sense and do not help you in any way because they're part of your culture. Plenty of my family members reject modern medicine because they think that their ground up spices can cure their diseases. Ear candling is the same. It doesn't work. It's backwards thinking that needs to be left behind for the betterment of a culture.

I had this done and i couldn't believe how much better i felt balance wise. It works really well. I highly recommend it. Edit: when i had it done the base of the candle is put in your ear and it pulls EVERYTHING out. Your ears are sparkly clean inside afterwords.
