Hi Stephanie, your review has me hooked and I ordered a Low G. I love the sound of a low whistle, and your version of The Sleeping Tune. I play it on the vagpipes Jimmy recommemnded that to start with and pick up a Low D once comfortable

I ordered one and I believe it is defective. The low octave is very weak, difficult to play and SO chiffy.

@@gerardopiero1000 I am sorry. I think there is a flaw. Sometimes very little is enough. Mine has no problems, both in the bass and in the treble. Ask for a new flute. Bye.

This is the one that I have. I do like the sound, but the volume is *very* soft, on mine at least. My personal "breath test" is to take a lungful of air and play a low G for as long as I can. I don't find this whistle to be too bad. But you're right, any whistle that has a bit of a breathy sound, which I happen to like, is going to "waste" a bit of air making that sound. My Dixon low D has a "cleaner" sound, and I can hold that low G longer, but I just don't like that clean sound so much on a low whistle.

I like the look of these new ones, but I have one of their older versions in F with the silver aluminium head and I think it sound much better. I am not too keen on low whistles that are too breathy. When they are too breathy they tend to go out of tune in the second register as did these. I make my own low whistles out of PVC and wood and they have a mellow tone with only a slight amount of breath. I was thinking of getting one of these in G but now I have heard this I dont think I’ll bother. I will stick with the older version and the ones I make.

Hi Stephanie, I have the Susato Low D, Clarke Penny C and D. Very glad about them! Now I'm in the need for a low G to jam along E minor tunes. Hesitating about Kildare and James Dominic...any advice? (it would be more for bluesy jazzy prog, Jethro Tull or Jiri Stivin madness) Thanks, Patte.

The James Dominic will be much softer and more breathy sounding than what you're used to I think, also probably needs a bit more air, so maybe the Kildare might be a good option for the type of music you want to play 🤷‍♀️

Pareil pour moi, premier low D aprés un tin et pour le moment le grip me parait inaccessible, j'envisage même de me mettre des bouts de doigts ou d'adapter des gants légers dans un premier temps pour tirer mes premières notes car là c'est plutôt désespérant.

How much are the customs charges into the UK?

I don't think I've paid customs to receive JDM whistles in the UK, but I could be wrong..as the value of the whistles is fairly low, in the event you do pay customs charges, i imagine it should be fairly reasonable. Maybe around £30 though. You might be able to find out online with Royal Mail.

I have one of the old JDW and can just about reach to cover the holes .This one looks to have larger holes and a bigger reach ? Also I have just enough air for the old version but probably not enough to spare . I love the even richer sound of the new one though .

I got one of these Low D whistles and it was a complete waste of money. Very soft, breathy and very difficult to play or get a consistent sound out of it. I have three other bands of Low D whistles (Tony Dixon, Kerry and Howard) and all of these are light years better than the James Dominic.

I watched your video and I ordered the same low d from Dominic. I live in US and I got it after 3 weeks. The whistle is horrible! It does not sound at all as the one that you play in this video! It is very very very chiffy to the point that the "chiff" noise overwhelms the overall sound. It is incredibly quiet, and the low octave is almost impossible to play. Notes do not come out, and if they do, they are weak!

@@gerardopiero1000 that's disappointing. Have you contacted the whistle maker? I'm sure you can return them if you're dissatisfied with them. I can only play the whistles that I personally receive and make a review based on my experience. I'm not sure if James Dominic has recently changed something of the design?

just got mine.quiet disspointed. looks like cheap plastic.. i can actually see the lines all along from top to bottom and smll scratchs too. looks like has not smoothed or polished. and just a cheap sticker as logo. for 65 euro im surprised. sounds good. but not what i expected.sending back :(
