02:05 It's SHY-ner, brewed and bottled in tiny Shiner, Texas at the Augustus Spoetzel (SPET-zel) brewery ever since 1909. When I first moved to Austin in 1975 Shiner Bock was a less-expensive alternative to Lone Star or Schlitz (5 to 10 cents per glass cheaper) and consequently popular with students at the University of Texas, but ever since the 1990s they have re-positioned themselves as a boutique beer. (I'm not mad at that.) 03:45 Deep-fried pickles are a relatively new addition to steak-house menus, but not at all an unwelcome one. 05:58 Texas barbecue (especially the Central Texas style, which is more or less what you're eating here) can vary wildly in quality depending on who's cooking and where. There are joints that will blow the top of your head off, they're so good, and others that are just "meh" or even "who the f*** would *EVER* eat here?" At the risk of sounding chauvinist, I will advise investigating the recommendations from _Texas Monthly_ magazine, a publication that has a full-time *BARBECUE EDITOR* on staff since 2013! They publish an every-five-years "50 Best Texas Barbecue Joints" which _aficionados_ follow religiously, to the point of organizing barbecue tours. (Incidentally, the _Monthly_ has also employed a full-time *Taco Editor* since 2017, to do the same for that cuisine.) 07:58 If you ain't got a good mac-and-cheese game goin' in central Texas, yer gonna get dinged for points. This one's not bad looking, although I'm pretty sure I could beat it cookin' at home. 08:30 oh PLEASE, *DON'T!* If a Texas steak needs a sauce to worry it down, the line cook UNSPEAKABLY effed it up. A good grilled steak should be medium-rare to medium, and shouldn't need anything but salt and pepper.

Out of the 3 chain steak restaurants, #1 Texas Roadhouse, #2 Outback, #3 Logan’s. We have all three in my city and Texas Roadhouse beats them all.
There are many more chain steak restaurants than that. Sizzler, Ruth's Chris, Black Angus, Morton's, Flemings, Fogo De Chao and the Capitol Grill, all of which rank higher than your top 3.

Texas Roadhouse, Longhorn, Outback I like them all. Texas Roadhouse normally go to if you want ribs but I always get the country fried chicken with a loaded baked potato and chili or I get 2 potatoes and save one for lunch the next day to eat the rest of my chicken with. The parmesan crusted chicken from Longhorn is really good too but normally people would get steak there. At Outback I normally get Alice Springs Chicken or the bloomin chicken. The bloomin onion too don't really care for the onion at Texas Roadhouse or Longhorn.

I love you Canadians! I spent many months traveling and working all across Canada. Just FYI: Bock beer is always a dark beer. Shiner Bock is one of the better dark beers out there. If I were you, I would go to Outback and skip Applebee's. Although Applebee's is a very American "neighborhood" bar and restaurant, nothing fancy, don't get your hopes up. A good steak should taste good with no sauce!

Nomad Monkeys, I just thought of something which I thought you might find interesting re. roadhouses: From the 1890s in Alaska and the Yukon, beginning with the gold rush, roadhouses were checkpoints where dog drivers (mushers, or dog sledders), horse-driven sleighs, and people on snowshoes, skis, or walking would stop overnight for shelter and a hot meal. A second meaning is a bar on the way out of a city. In case you're familiar with Alaska's Iditarod Dogsled race, the #9 checkpoint of 28 or 29, depending upon the year, is an old roadhouse not far from the start of the Bush (Alaska's roadless territory).

Found you because one of my "regular" viewing options (European Reacts) viewed & covered this video. I came here & subscribed right away! IF you go back to Texas Roadhouse, try their prime rib, their "roadkill" (it's not really roadkill, they just call it that to be cute.... it's chopped steak covered on grilled onion & mushrooms.) I really like the fried pickles, but what is even better is the Cactus blossom (really a deep fried onion) w/ Cajun Horseradish sauce or ranch sauce to dip. And the Combo Appetizer lets you try 3 of the following: Boneless Buffalo Wings (med or hot sauce) pro tip, either one get the bleu cheese dressing to dip into or if you prefer the Ranch to ease the heat/spicy, Fried Pickles - you know about), Rattlesnake Bites jalapeno's stuffed w/ cheese and deep fried.), Tater Skins (with bacon bits & cheese) or Twisted Mozzarella. Just pick the 3 YOU want. Outback is good (they have the Bloomin' Onion, similar to the TRH's "Cactus Blossom") as is Applebee's. DO NOT forget to sign up w/ whatever restaurants you plan to try; LOTS of freebies/upgrades. (might want to make a specific email address at mail dot com or similar for your restaurant choices just to cut down on SPAM etc... what city in the USA is closest to you so I can see what places they have? But Applebee's has: Free Appetizer Join and get a FREE appetizer* & Free Birthday Treat Receive a free birthday dessert** & Exclusive Deals Enjoy delicious, members-only offers. Even fast food places have a 'member' options & deals - including birthday goodies (mainly just food.... but it's good!). At Applebee's I like the "Bourbon Street" items if I'm not feeling 'poor' that visit (not, not feeling good, just not feeling flush w/ cash, they can be a tad pricey) I like to do the: 2 for $2X (the X is a number that varies location to location, I'm in Ohio, it's $25) but you get appetizer of your choice, I typically do the onion rings or 2 salads they have other choices tho. I generally get Bourbon Street Chicken & Shrimp, comes w/ garlic mashed potatoes, grilled onion & mushrooms, and a buttery garlic sauce) but uit's a $5.00 upcharge to get it here. Also Good is the Classic Broccoli Chicken Alfredo (a $2.50 upcharge here) or Fiesta Lime Chicken which comes w/ Spanish rice, pico De Gallo, a Mexican Ranch Dressing, some tortilla strips. It's pretty good to, especially if you like Mexican spices. Great video!

I love Outback Steakhouse i get the filet / ribeye & lobster tail or the grilled chicken & shrimp on pasta with a lemon cream sauce & a ceaser /side salad (with no onions & honey mustard or blue cheese dressing)& i drink a tall Foster's on TAP or i get the frozen alcoholic Peachy drink & their desserts are always good( tim-tam dessert or the cheesecake or Brownie with ice cream). I highly recommended a popular BBQ restaurant in the area you're in OR try Cracker Barrel for breakfast lunch or dinner(i get blueberry pancakes or the meatloaf but it's all good) If you want to go to a fancy restaurant see if there's a Morton's Steakhouse in the area which is expensive but worth it. If the parking lot is full that usually means its good. A good fast food is Boston Market for lunch/dinner. My favorite restaurants are the Japanese Steakhouse's like we have Myabi's which is where u sit at a large table with other customers & a chef cooks tappan yaki/ hibachi style steak(get the filet) chicken of seafood all grilled on the flat top grill & they put on a show as they cook. I usually get the filet & jumbo shrimp &( sticky) white rice & you get a salad (house/ginger dressing) & they give u a miso soup which is really good. And a Japanese beer (Sapporo, Asahi or Kirin? ) sweet tea with lemon is usually my go to drink or get it with half lemonade mixed in it we call an Arnold Palmer. Loved your video & we love our Canadian cousins/neighbors hope we're as nice & polite as you are. 💜🙏😍🫶👍

Generally things are more expensive in Canada. Not too much is cheaper. If you are familiar with prices in New York or California, that is more around Canada prices for things in the bigger Canadian cities. As you go more remote in Canada, prices go up even more for most things.

@@RealzFoSho I lived in Sault St. Marie Michigan for 6 months and at that time I'd usually buy everything I could in Canada because it was cheaper. Then again that was back in the 80s. lol

@RealzFoSho4 ай бұрын
@@lennybuttz2162 Yeah. Back in the day it was more reasonable. Used to always cross at Sault St Marie coming from the LP when I was a kid, just to say we went into Canada each year and to pick up a few things for the rest of our trip. Then we would cross back and continue to L'Anse. Late 80's, early 90's. Some things were pricier but a lot was cheaper back then. In the early 2000's we would cross at Port Huron and head east of Toronto to fish on Rice Lake. By then, things were getting more expensive. Has only kept going up since then. You can still find a few things that are cheaper, mainly because of the currency conversion giving an edge, but price just kept getting driven up over the decades faster than they were going up in the US. A few years back I worked in International Falls MN and folks would regularly cross from Canada to shop because the prices on so many things were significantly cheaper.
