i really disagree 😭😭 i was coming to comment that dresses and sweaters almost always look adorable so i was sad to hear she didn’t like it, but i think it’s only because of the combo she chose. out of alexa’s entire closet, i feel like pretty much any other combo would’ve been adorable !! for example, her butter yellow sweater over a patterned or denim maxi dress would’ve been so cute and much more her style !! but idk i feel like the specific combo is maybe why she was so unsure of it

Someone might have already said this cause I’m so late! 😣 but I think the reason the slip dress and sweater didn’t mesh visually for you was the green of the slip dress has a blue/cool undertone, and the sweater has very warm undertones. If you pair it with a longer, midi length slip dress in color with a warm undertone I think it would click for you. 🧡 Hope that helps!

I love a good sweater/slipdress combo. I would take a longer slipdress with maybe a pastel color (white or pink) to wear with your sweater and make it more a 'sweet' style. You could style it with your hair in ribbons.

big top + little bottom and little top + big bottom are prob my fav outfit formulas when it's warm. I don't feel comfortable showing TOO much but where I live it gets rlly hot but something about those formulas is always so effortlessly cute. my favs from this summer were an oversized t shirt and shorts or a mini skirt, chunky sneakers, and a simple choker, and for the other outfit formula it was specifically a black and gray striped cami, olive green maxi skirt and a big statement bat necklace. I struggle with body image and stuff sometimes but I think I totally slayed in that fit AND it was super comfy. the sweater + dress combo is actually so cute and idk why I didn't realize this until recently!! I went to a cocktail party in october and thrifted this gorgeous black dress but I know it gets cold af at night especially now that it's fall so I brought a cropped kinda fluffy black cardigan with me and normally I don't like that cardigan a ton bc I'm kinda drifting from cropped stuff like it's just not totally my thing anymore but it looked sooo good with the dress I think my outfit actually looked better with the cardigan or at least like more cutesy which is more my vibe than a sexy dress lmao. I rlly need to try that combination out more this fall/winter!!

I love the formula big sleeves + volumnious bottoms they best right mow. Be it puff sleeves, kimono sleeves, bat sleeves, bishops sleeves... and a knee or longer skirt with or with out a petticoat, or pants like knickerbockers, sarouel or pumpkin pants or even blommers (historical or lolita fashion ones, no square dance petti pants).

13:15 This is an outfit that I wear pretty often. I wasn't aware it was a recipe, it's just that I have a thing for patterned pants (and shorts). The pants have to be kind of tight, especially around the ankle. They should be a bit too short so that you can see the flat shoes. Your boots are really competing with those pants. The shoes need to be pretty plain. The big shirt should be BIG with long sleeves--just a simple button-down. And the bag...meh, that's not so important, but in summer I wear this kind of outfit and tend to carry a brightly patterned tote or something, so...yep. A summer version of this would be wearing brightly patterned shorts instead of pants.

If you're not a fan of the big blazer + slim skirt, but still want to cover your butt, go for a slim but kind of long blazer! Personally, I am not a fan of the big top + long skirt combo, especially not when the skirt is slim, but I still like to keep my butt, or lack thereof, covered. I wore this on a runway as a hair model once and it was great for my long, thin, and flat body, which usually doesn't work well with big tops and slim bottoms. This also works if you don't want to show your underwear lol

Look at how beautiful this sits on you! I literally need to find a granny sweater to chop and add lace too. I really liked the cropped sweater and dress outfit. I feel the same way as you though, whenever I try it I feel like I'm not doing it right somehow. Outfit formulas remind me of the idea of "personal uniform" which I remember from fashion blogs, especially ones with an angle of trying to keep your closet smaller and capsule wardrobe type stuff. My "personal uniform"/"outfit formula" is tank top tucked into high waisted pants, chunky open sweater, and ankle boots. I swap the chunky open sweater out for open button downs when it's warmer.

If you didn’t want as much colour contrast in the last outfit I think it just needed white shoes if you wanted the bag to stand out more, or black shoes if you wanted to tie the bag in more! Also I actually loved the sweater and dress combo, I think the colours might be what wasn’t working for you? The jumper had warmer tones and the dress was a very cool green. You also might like it more with tights? I think the tights and sweater combined would give it a more cold weather feel

I feel like "outfit formula" as a fashion meme is sort of confusing to me. Like is the idea that any combo of these items will work? Because that's definitely not true, Alexa's working here to make these work and has a killer wardrobe and some of the combos are still pretty meh. Or it is supposed to be like breaking down a look so people can shop for the individual pieces?

I think the idea is to try something new with what you already have? I remember when people would do outfit idea videos and assume everyone had very specific items, like a striped boat neck top or black combat boots. And they’d go on about how it was a wardrobe staple that everyone had to have 😂 But most outfit formulas are less specific, which lets you experiment with a wider range of clothes. Like the small top big bottoms one, you could try that idea with wide leg jeans or baggy sweatpants or a maxi skirt or cargo pants and so on. I think many people find particular formulas that work for their wardrobe and style that they can rely on if they ever get stuck with what to wear! Just like jeans and a tshirt is easy for a lot of people. For example short skirt, sweater, tights and boots used to be an easy outfit formula for me in autumn because I had a few options and they all matched well with each other. So I could make a lot of distinct outfits with minimal thought, which is a similar principle to how capsule wardrobes work. But now I rarely use that formula because I grew out of those clothes, now I have less options for short skirts and sweaters and the ones I have often don’t match with each other 🤷🏼‍♀️ I also don’t wear boots as often and I gave up on tights entirely because I destroy them in no time

blazer/bra/mesh shirt combo isn't made for the real world. Who amoung us can guarantee in any weather that they aren't going to want to remove a removeable layer like a blazer. My hack? swap the bralette for a low-cut camisole and wear some bike shorts or short shorts under the mesh dress. It might feel a lot like a bathing suit and cover-up or underwear outfit, but all you need to remove your outer layer and grab a coordinating scarf or shawl that you wear with your main coat and this could work in autoumn at the office even without the blazer. That, to me, makes it practical for the wildly fluctuating weather and indoor heat levels of this time of year. No jackets that can't be removed. Don't do it. You will suffer.

One of the most popular outfit formulas where I live during the last year has been tiny top, wide leg jeans. And during winter it was oversized jumper (sweater) or hoodie and wide leg jeans. Paired with sneakers for both of them!
