I live in Japan and your videos got me back into the GBA! Planning to make an "ultimate" mod GBA to play all kinds of GameBoy * games, I bought two consoles on Yahoo!Auctions a week ago. Both untested, one didn't turn on, but after cleaning the switch, it turns out it had an IPS screen already! Pretty good deal, though I guess a tad expensive for non tested GBAs, if I include shipping (that the seller refused to group...) Guess I'll have to be ready to compete on auctions with you then! Now I need to get new shells, battery kits, some clean power and amp kits, then I really want to try an ITA TFT screen on the second one!

The protective shield on the JAL console: I believe with the JAL Gameboy, before the flights started, they would load a game onto the console for you to play on the flight (as the consoles were able to be rented on a JAL flight and given back at the end of the journey), and the protective shield was there to stop you putting your own games in. This was explained to me by some of my collector friends, and I do trust their knowledge, but we may not be 100% correct.

I had an original gameboy (from 1989 I believe) and over the years got various aftermarket accessories, such as the magnifying lens. It took it's own batteries and would also light up, to help you see the screen. The lens was so thick (like the thickest glasses you'd ever see) and it made the screen quite blurry. Pretty sure it did my eyes more harm than good! A few years back, my parents sold their family home and all my gameboy collection went in the house clearance. Absolutely gutted, but your videos help bring back some nostalgia!

JAL Limited edition sounds like a “display” model used in either premium club membership lounges in airports or a first class loaner. Protector looks like a game lock that keeps you from removing the cartridge. My guess.

I thought the same thing. But if it was me, the first thing is I would quickly and carefully remove that cover on the back because there could be a promotional cartridge with a custom rom? I'm just thinking back to Nick Robinson's quest to hunt down the McDonald's Nintendo DS and the elusive training game. There really could be some obscure thing inside if only 50 were made. It just occurred to me though, one can pop some batteries in and just play it. Unless there was screen issues like lines of dead pixels. (Since we could tell the screen appeared to be in okay shape). It would be so cool though if someone with one of these would share what's under the cover. The universe denied Elliot that chance but maybe it will happen.

That jal one I was actually looking at as well and it is in decent shape from what I remember there is something wrong with the speaker and when you turn it on the screen is just black I believe and the second game boy that will come with it the person said they are putting that in for parts for the jal one keep up with the good videos mate

Just got my tracking number for my sendico package worth a Wopping $700 wich I'm hoping I don't regret got all my consoles back from I was a kid except the GB Advanced but I'm coming back for it. it surprises me how much stuff my parents bought me and it saddens me becuase I didn't take care of it and now I have to buy it all back. Just curious has anyone else bought from Yahoojapan? I was very curious as I’m in the market for a cheap gameboy advance sp that I can use as my first teardown and would like to upgrade it to an ips screen. The problem I’ve found is that shipping is so expensive like let’s say an ags 001 is $50 US. A somewhat standard price for an ags 001 here but with sendico I’m afraid shipping could be like $40 so your paying like so much in just shipping it isn’t really cheap anymore.

I built my first custom Gameboy (DMG) and GBA after starting to watch your stuff. New IPS displays, beautifully-printed shells, new buttons/pads, etc etc I'm 37 and still remember opening up an original Gameboy Christmas morning, '91.
