Trying to FIX a GAMING LAPTOP - ACER Aspire 7 -A717-71G-58U3

Hi, in this 'trying to fix' video I attempt to repair a gaming laptop sent over from Finland by Jari. It stopped working whilst gaming, and never worked since. It is a ACER Aspire 7 - A717-71G-58U3. It doesn't charge or power on.
It is a lovely looking laptop with NVIDIA GeForce GTX1060 with 6GB GDDR5 VRAM, so hopefully if it can be fixed it will still be a very capable machine.

Great eye Vince on finding that cap. I think SMD capacitors are the biggest pain when it comes to board repair. No printed values and most times no visible signs of damage. I am always happy to support your videos!

Excellent work! Could hear you starting to get despondent, then when you spotted that cap (amazing work there Sherlock) it was all suspense until the magic moment. The second i saw that cap i knew that was it ... the discoloration was a clear giveaway. Fixed a ThinkPad L570 in the same manner a few months ago. Bravo.

Awesome fix Vince! Always satisfying to get a good result, especially on complex hardware like this. Most of the laptops I get in for repair have blown ICs or water damage - nice to see a relatively easy one for a change :)

The pure excitement when that light turned on in your voice is reason enough to try and fix things! Beats any "unboxing" experience. I've never seen a repair video before but have been tinkering with computers for 25 years now. I had no idea those mats existed. The amount of damn screws that I've lost or rolled away, or the amount of times I've stolen tuppaware or plates from the kitchen to store them in! I had no idea how the multi meter helped. I suspect if you give it a detailed visual inspection for burns this type of fix will be gold. I think my hands are too shaky and too many neck issues to attempt something like this myself - but it might make me braver next time something I really like stops working.

Very good repair !! I recommend a power meter that you can connect to your electrical outlet for measure the current that a device draws. A boot able USB stick with LINUX to start a PC / Laptop would certainly also be useful and in such a case I would always change both capacitors if they are so close together
