Trying To FIX | Singing Machine KARAOKE System

I bought a portable Singing Machine Groove Mini Karaoke System off eBay for £5! There appears to be no power and it doesn't turn on.
Will I be able to repair it, or should I just Let It Go?

I just purchased a Singing Machine Karaoke System for my Granddaughter, she has Autism and she loves to sing from when she wakes up in the morning until sleepy time. Well done. My daughter has the same model of this singing machine (in white though) with the same problem, which landed me here. Thanks to your video I'm now convinced that I don't need to waste anymore time trying to try fixing it. I don't have the tools to solder that tiny stuff. I was hoping for an easier fix, like hard resetting or whatever. This kind of using wrong specification parts in a commercial product is definitely planned obsolescence and I apploud you for fighting it, but it just doesn't make sense for me to fix this one.

Thanks, I couldn't work out the fix on a Daewoo compact bluetooth Karaoke machine. Occasionally it would turn on but 99% of the time it wouldn't. Thanks to this video it turns out to be the same fault on the same chip, 4.8Volts outputted rather than 3.3v. I replaced the chip and it works fine now. The Daewoo main motherboard looks exactly the same as one in the video, so looks like different makes used the same design. I bought it as factory return stock, there were 10 other machines with the same issue so there is good possibility there was faulty batch of these chips, and they were sold to different retail companies who got the same main board but pimped up the externals to their own liking.

I was disappointed that you didn't use the thermal camera after the part was replaced to see if the temperature was back to normal. The singing at the end was a bonus. My dogs were howling along with your singing.

You are completely bonkers! And yes, I mean that in a good, fun way! BONKERETTS ARISE! LOL Nice job, Steve. Just a note to other who may be watching this and perhaps just new to electronics. Right near the beginning when Steve used the thermal camera and saw that regulator chip at 45 degrees, right there, that was in indicator that either the chip was bad and/or perhaps a shorted capacitor. That chip should NOT get hot when there's no real load happening. The resistor getting hot is in direct correlation to the short condition (in this case, the chip). And yes, that chip is shorted as evidence by the 8V "output" noticed at the beginning. When I'm fixing something and it has regulator chips, those are the 1st things that I check as well as all caps in those locations and/or locations where I suspect the fault. Steve does a good and fun job.

I have a karaoke USA model gf920 Have not used it in a couple of months and it's not turning on and I plugged in the AC adapter is it because the battery pack is so dead I need to charge it? I always thought it would work with the dead battery pack if I plug it in with the AC adapter?

Nice work Stez! I guess the voltage regulator wasn't resisting as much anymore. Got a bit nervous seeing the cap on the right manipulate under the heat. Don't forget to use capton tape; it is your ally. Otherwise, a better fault find, solder and ballad than I could do. 😁

Thanks Toxo! Yeah, apparently it's quite common for them voltage regulators to fail over-voltage like that. So that's something useful I've learnt from doing this! The other thing I've learnt is that I think I have a real shot at winning the next series of Britain's Got Talent. 👍

I can't remember exactly, but one of the chips will be responsible for amplifying the sound. My guess is that it has failed. I would imagine it's a fairly common universal chip that can be replaced. 👍
