I graduated in 1979 and had to work for my first car. Got my first job in 1979 and in 1981, bought a 1972 Pontiac LeMans. I just loved that car. It was a bronze color with a light beige vinyl top. Drove that car another 8 years.

I graduated in 1981 and my parents didn't have any extra money. I actually got a grant to go to college. So, that summer before college, me being from Eastern NC, I had to crop tobacco in order to buy a car. I found a Pontiac, Catalina, not the kool looking one either. But I only paid $250 and all my friends called it a boat but I was so proud because I earned the money to purchase it. That car would fly. I was embarrassed at first but I learned to hold my head up high. Those were the good ole days. Even barning tobacco. Every teen should have to spend a summer, barning tobacco!! Very hard, dirty work

I love the old cars and trucks, I can’t even tell you how many Camaros I built 30 years ago. Now I have a 1971 Dodge Dart but every time I fix one thing something else needs fixing. Matt has the right idea of wanting an old car but not having the time to deal with one. My favorite cereal in the 80’s was Waffle o’s, I loved those. They had a strong maple syrup flavor, although I’m from Georgia my great grandfather was from Canada and I guess that’s where I got my love of maple flavor. God bless y’all.

Once when my husband and I were on our way to Canada for a fishing trip, we stopped at a rest area about 3am. The parking lot was packed with semis and lots of RV’s. We were parked in between two RV’s. My husband went to the bathroom and all of the sudden the stupid truck alarm went off! He said he knew it was our truck! 😂 I am quite sure it woke everyone up! I couldn’t get it to go off!😳

Like Tipper, I grew up in a Cheerios and Corn Flakes home. When we had a pet raccoon in the 50s, my grandmother bought Sugar Pops for him, but I don't remember eating them. The absolute worst were Froot Loops on the market in the early 60s. Figuratively those cereals were air (little food value), but the reality is that they were sugar. Glad Matt gave up his boyhood sugar fix. Thanks for the memories.

My mom use to turn over the garden during winter at least twice. When we started gardening I had my husband turn over the garden twice during winter. He, like my mom, would try to plow it up the day before we were going to have bad weather. If the ground was frozen we would wait till it warmed up a little, but we always managed to get it turn over. The year we didn’t do it, then that summer we had the worst bug problems. Just want till the weather warms up a little then plow. It will get cold again. Hearing all them cars stories reminded me of my dad and both my brother’s love of cars. Fond memories! Cool axe you got Matt for Christmas.

Married almost 30 years and still learning new, surprising things about each other. Tipper found out Matt doesn't like marshmallows in his cocoa. Matt learned that Tipper has never had Lucky Charms, and the expression of incredulity on his face when he did! 😂 You two will never run out of things to talk about, and that's such a blessing in a marriage. I'm a fan of old cars, too. I like going to old car shows are car museums. But evidently I need to update my idea of what's "old," lol. Suddenly I feel old myself. I've about gotten used to the idea that 1950 Chevy pickup I learned to drive a stick shift in is vintage. But I thought of the ones y'all were talking about as just cars. I'm with Matt about not liking automatic this and electronic that on cars, and my late husband was the same way. He had a basic, manual everything 1986 Toyota truck that sounds like what Matt was talking about. Though after a few summertime trips through the desert on dusty dirt roads, I did tell him that like it or not, his next truck was having A/C! But as it turned out, that Toyota lasted the rest of his life, though it had about 250,000 miles on it. And we took it on some roads where "road" was just a courtesy title.

I can relate to so much of the talk about old cars. We always had old cars too. Once I reached high school about to graduate my mama and daddy bought a new car. I was so proud of that car. I learned to drive and took my driving test in a 66 Mustang and the color was sort of a gold color. I hated that car, but now I would love to have it. We drove that car until it wouldn't go anymore. And I learned to drive straight shift in an old Ford truck that my daddy had and then a little pinto station wagon. Sweet memories. Then the first car I bought after I finished nursing school and worked a few months to save up a down payment was a Ford EXP. I loved that car. It was straight shift and I was only 19 but I was so proud that I could drive a straight shift. I would probably still have that car but after I got it paid for somebody t-boned me and tore it up.

I enjoyed this video so much! Love the memories, my grandparents and parents had similar cars. We also had the Oldsmobile station wagon from the late 1960s. It was so pretty, blue with the wood panels on the sides. I miss those cars, our parents would put the seats down and make a “pallet” in the back of the station wagon for me and my little brother to sleep while my dad drove us during the night. Long trips to visit my grandparents in Alabama. Those were the best days of my youth!

My husband is like Matt! Loves the old muscle cars! A few years ago, he traded his ‘89 Chevy Scottsdale truck and some cash and for a ‘55 Chevy truck. He had it completely redone….everything on it was replaced! It was a metallic blue with all black interior when he got it. When it was finally finished, it was a two toned pearl gold and burgundy with camel colored suede seats. Our Granddaughter said it looked like peanut butter and jelly😂 I’m telling you, it was absolutely stunning! We had it long enough to enter four different car shows and this truck won first place every time! That was about four years ago when we lived in Ohio. We’re in Florida now but decided to sell it before the move. It sure was fun while we had it though!!😊

Love the stories about the old cars. My mom and dad were the same way with cars. They only had one new car in their lives. Dad got a sweet deal on a 1973 Ford Maverick that my brother and I both drove to high school in the 80's. It had a 302 V8 motor and would scoot down the highway. My uncle had to drive it back here from my Granny's house one day for some reason and he squealed the tires when he pulled out. He got out of the car here at my parents house and said, "Boy that car has some power!" ha ha.

You were talking about the noise and the car in the night,i had a 1983 Oldsmobile brougham regency, loved it! But one day in town, I'd had it several years, and I hit my horn as i was bringing my purse above it and the horn "STUCK"! So i had to drive through town with the horn honking! It just finally quit because it burned out or something! Never worked again. It was loud it sounded like a train horn! But i loved that car! It was so smooth riding and driving, comfortable! My husband bought it after wed gone through a bad spell! He'd left for someone else gone several months, then came back,no job. He found a job,new car hauling so gone all week. My husband was really a var man, liked the good ones like first 1960s mustang that came out had a 1957 belair Chevrolet, first yr crown Victoria,19557 or early 1960. The classics. Course never bought many new usually used. A 1971 buick riviera that was a smooth riding, wide car, sloped back.

I met the inventor of Captain Crunch cereals about 25 years ago. He made allot of money and ended up buying a vineyard in Northern California about 5 miles from me. Loved his cereals! You’re a good daddy. Sounds like you’ve made some sacrifices Matt to keep those girls going.m

👋❤️👋Y’all have the best conversations by the stove. I’ll take the marshmallows and hot chocolate Matt doesn’t want😄. Looks good to me. Love old classic cars. When I was just out of high school, bought my first car. “F88 Oldsmobile.” I had a plate on the front. It was two big old 👀 eyes. We lived in a very little town and I was called Moon Eyes, for a while anyway. Loved my car and put a lot of miles on it. When we got married, my new husband and I traded it in for A “1968” Candy Apple Red, 8 cylinder, Automatic, Ford Mustang. Loved ❤️ my car even more than the first. It was from the love of my life. We wish we still had that car. It would be about 57 years old. 😂 👋❤️👋Jennifer

In June of 1969, I came home from being stationed in Tripoli, Libya, and bought a 1969 Chevy Camero, brand new off the showroom floor, It was an SS 350 with four on the floor. It was Daytona yellow, with a black vinyl top, all white interior. Sure wish I had it today. Richard Hutchings in Florida.

My dad's drove a 1951 Chevy sedan, when I was in grade school. He was a House painter, and carried his extention ladders tied to the top,his step ladders in the trunk. I wish I could find one like it, that I could afford

I learned how to drive in a 1964 Chevy straight drive 3 speed on the column. I got my driver's license in my dad's new 1969 Plymouth Fury. Yes I'm old. I love old cars. I'm a Mopar guy at heart. I had a 72 Roadrunner that I wish I had now.

I’m with Matt on the key fob issue. I hate those things, especially when the fob battery unexpectedly dies and you can’t even open the car door!! That’s the worst when you’re tired after working all day and just want to go home. I miss my 1971 Chevelle.

I owned a 4Runner for 20 years. Fantastic automobile. I do not care for all the power stuff either. As far as movies, I watch TCM almost exclusively. The scenery, the automobiles, the clothes of the 30’s, 40’s and 50’s is timeless. Also, the conversations, situations and plots are real life. The present is unreal to me. I don’t fit anymore.

Oh my goodness yes, Cap’n Crunch Crunchberries used to be my favorite cereal when I was growing up! We were only allowed non sweet cereals (raisin bran, corn flakes, rice crispies) but for some reason, my mom would allow us to get cap’n crunch every now and again! And it’s ok Tipper, I never had Lucky Charms either growing up 😂😂😂 I was in my late 30’s (I’m 48) the first time I had it, and let me tell you- I was distinctly underwhelmed 😒☺️

My wife and I grew up in the same town and dated for 9 years before we got married! We have been married for 41 years. We both have fond memories of our parents owning station wagons. My father's had fold up seats in the "farback" (It was a Ford) . Her dad's did not (it was a plymouth). We both remember getting into the back and sleeping as our parents drove to grandparents houses on holidays. Mine were in Florida and hers were in Penn. These were the times before mandatory seatbelts. "Backseat leaning" ment we were in the backseat leaning forward to hear what our parents were talking about or to hear the AM radio! When FM radio came along we couldn't afford to buy a new car just to get a new radio, so my younger brother and I put in a "FM Converter" in the wagon. It's OK "parking" listening to WOWO radio out of Chicago with the signal fading in and out or "Hello Henry" out of Charlotte. It was a lot better listening to the pure sound of FM radio from a local station. Oh, I almost forgot! That 6 foot backseat was dangerous territory for a 16 year old girl! Just saying! Love your channel. Glad you and Matt might have some of the same experiences that me and my wife have had!

Haha, loved the stories about the car embarrassments 😂 Similar experience here when I was a kid, the only family with a blue VW bus. I had 3 younger siblings but it was so embarrassing to me, I would literally duck down and hide every day going to school 😂 Of course I wish we still had it now though ❤

I'm in Iowa (-23 degrees today). I understand trying to get a jump on gardening, lol. I germinate 1 seed tray of bunching onions in January, near a window in the house. If they get too tall, I can always clip some for soup or omelets. It helps to keep me from getting cabin fever til I can get outside into the garden again. God bless and stay warm! That hot chocolate looks awesome 😊
