Honestly I gotta say, the Alice book just sounds like a redoing of American McGee’s “Alice” and “Alice: Madness Returns” video games. Like even the Industrial Revolution, forgetting stuff, asylum burning down stuff. I dunno if she took inspiration or if a lot of Alice in Wonderland dark retelling themes are just common

Was coming to the comment section to say the same thing! Dark retellings ARE common buuuut there's so many details that are the same that it's pretty sus. Maybe the author heard or saw some things from the games, assumed it was a fever dream of hers over time, and was like "hey, I should use that for a book!" but her mind had actually retained that stuff from the games. Nevermind, just looked it up and the author specifically answers a question talking about the game and says "despite superficial similarities (to those games), it's an original book", so she did indeed know about the games beforehand, and someone in the comments mentioned that Alice's trauma also comes from the same source in both this book and those games, besides the other things, "so it's a little more than superficial similarities" 🤔 Anyway, those games are beautiful, so anyone who didn't know about them before should look them up!

When you said "These books are letting me down so much, I need something else" and then proceeded to show I Was a Teenage Slasher, I was like oh noo because I just watched a vlog where Katie Colson read that and she disliked it! I'm so glad to hear you say you enjoyed it when you updated after that, because you deserved a good experience after being done dirty by those other books and then that creep following you around 😭 That ice cream looks good! I really like the butter cake from Crumbl, so I'd probably like that, too.

I absolutely love both They Never Learn and Temper. Temper is a super different vibe though, so I wouldn't say that you're gonna like it because you liked They Never Learn. It's weirder and I think like 25% of my love for it is because I was a theatre kid hahah

Aw! I'm bummed you didn't like We Sold Our Souls. I think it's a book for reading at night/in the dark. There were a few times where I actually felt scared reading it at like 2 a.m.

I just read We Sold Our Souls just last week! Super super fun and definitely not what I expected! But I also get your complaints, there were definitely moments where it dragged and just lost momentum.

I’ve only read one book by Grady Hendrix, My Best Friend’s Exorcism, and I HATED it 😢 I do want to try Final Girl Support Group, Southern Book Club, and How to Sell a Haunted House. Hopefully I like those more. And Grady has a new one coming out about Witches

whoa i just read temper yesterday. i don't rly have a bead on ur thriller taste, but i wouldn't recommend it to most thriller readers. it's a v slow burn, and the stakes are p low.i wouldn't say it's a domestic thriller but it definitely has that vibe. i think u may like it as long as youre not expecting another They Never Learn, u know?

I thought we sold our souls was so boring and anti-climactic - I truly don’t get the point it was trying to make and why we were supposed to care about the characters. I ended up rating it 2.5 stars but I’m not surprised as Grady Hendrix has been really hit or miss for me. Trying my best friends exorcism currently so we’ll see how it goes.

Wait, you just have to pick Up the right book with the POV of a Ghost, please try Briefly a Delicious Life. It's the Ghost of a 14 year old on a monastery in Mallorca, she died in 1473 and then in the 19th century she fell in love with the writer George Sand when she took her lover Chopin to the island. Is sweet and funny, the girl ghost hates men and punish them by creating little inconveniences lol and her story,her death, gets in your feels too
