As y'all know, explaining jokes makes them 10x funnier so here goes : The video says that if the bouncer senses that you have money or a job, he will not let you in. Having no money and no job, I am the complete opposite of that (#relatable), so I joke that the bouncer should do the complete opposite as well. The complete opposite of not letting someone in would be to let them in, but to exaggerate my lack of money, I say that I would not only be let in, but also be able to skip the queue. This kind of joke is based on exaggerating an extrapolation far outside its applicable bounds. Another example would be a guy walking into a bar, being told the beer is $2 if he sits at a table and $1 if he sits at the bar, and replying "So if I balance myself on a single hand, do I get it for free ?". Of course the business wouldn't be viable if you could get free drinks depending on your pose, the point of the joke is a mostly incorrect extrapolation (the less comfortable the seating, the cheaper the drinks), taken far outside its applicable range for humorous effect.

The door policy isn't too different from other great Berlin clubs, the difference is the level of "tourists" (to Berlin techno club culture, gay Berlin club culture, etc, etc) that for some reason think they have to try and go when they wouldn't even enjoy it. Berghain proper is just a large very dark industrial hall, crowded with a mass of half naked or leather clad people, dancing to very loud, dark, techno. The energy is vibrant, you might spend 20 plus hours in there without leaving to get some rest, with several hour moments of losing yourself to just dancing and being in that dark, pounding mass of people. Really, not something most Americans think of when they're told it's the most exclusive club in the world as exclusive doesn't mean what they think it means in this case.

There are a lot of underground locations just like this in every major german city. Sometimes just in a cellar of a flat share or under old rail road bridges. The Berghain just happens to make a name for itself because Berlin is a focus point, which kinda defeats the purpose of underground. Whatever city you happen to be in, just look out for alternative neighborhoods and if you share the mindset you will connect with people easily and find good places :-) People will allow you into their home for after hour too.

I’ve been to a lot of raves but nothing will beat this experience. Most ppl who attend are locals mostly in the art and club scene(DJs, promoters, bartenders) although you meet a few professionals. My first time I went alone and stuck out like a sore thumb. Ppl knew I was a fresh face but everyone was super embracing. I met this girl in the ice cream parlor, she gave me a tour of the whole place and introduced me to her group. If you are not an open minded person don’t bother, you will be scared by this place lmaoo. Can’t wait to return next yr🫡

They have great djs playing every weekend. There’s dark rooms, swings, and an ice cream shop inside and drinks are cheap. When inside you will lose sense of reality and time. Last time I went I was there for 20hrs+ dancing my ass off.

I feel like the Berghain crowd deliberately doesn't explain this to people, but: It really isn't about "wearing all black" or following some arbitrary rules in the line. What needs to happen is that you fit the crowd inside. Which is a crowd of techno fans, laid-back people who just want to party and make out, and people who are comfortable expressing themselves and living in the moment. If you dress like you're going to a parking lot party, and act like you belong, you're waaay more likely to get in than if you're standing there in all black with a face that screams "I'm a tourist that sees getting in here as a challenge and isn't prepared for actually getting in"

Went a couple of times. I had never heard of it before. I went with a couple Berliners that told me a couple things. I think one was being super chill to the point of not talking when we got within earshot of the doorman. we were def not wearing all black. pretty standard club for berlin for the most part with a bunch of different rooms with different djs. my guess is they just don't want it to become a tourist spot. So from what I remember, basically go, keep quiet in line and at most just nod when you get to the doorman if he asks you anything. I also think that drinking in line was something you shouldnt do even though it is 100% legal to do that in Berlin.

it's actually the best techno club in the world. I lived in Berlin for years and i've partied there multiple times. It's worth the wait if you've never seen it before (and you enjoy techno clubbing), but Berlin has countless other options, sometimes easier to get into and way more colorful and happy, like Sisyphos. Berghain is cool but it got worse over time in term of extreme hype, which makes the "regulars" feel like they're gods above others, even tho most of them are 30-40 years old drug addicted people. If you live in Berlin you should try, if you're going as a tourist choose something else.

It's pretty hard to get into a lot of clubs in Berlin, particularly if you are English and male. Going in pairs/solo, being shabbily dressed is definitely the way to go, however, once you are in you are still not safe from being culled. A friend of mine was inside for about 10 minutes before being ushered away. They seem to like you to be fairly emotionless when you're in there, so if you do make it in, don't get too excited.

@@jasonzheng5839 That's a fair question. For some it is as simple as "this place is exclusive, therefore, I must go". For others, it will be the allure of the unknown. I wanted to go because Berghain seemed like a bit of a relic of the past. When David Bowie and Iggy Pop and others had their "Berlin Period" in the late 70s, there was an industrial quality. Berghain didn't open until the early/mid-2000s so wasn't there for that. However, it's Stalinist architecture and the fact that it was a former factory adds to it's aesthetic and almost links it to a past it wasn't really part of. It's a bit like the Hacienda in Manchester or CBGB in New York, it has just become this iconic monument to hedonism. As for the experience; it isn't for everyone but I wouldn't say it is devoid of fun by any stretch. Really, it's just a different way of nightclubbing that can feel quite alien - some people love it, for others, once is enough.

Goth music, dark wave, synth, minimal cold wave, industrial, is very big in Germany/Berlin (from what I understand there is even a shortage of Djs the demand is so widespread). It makes sense too, as that basically describes the vibe of that scene... artsy, eccentric, not impressed by wealth or materialism, loner types, quiet, maybe into a fetish or a fringe. Sounds nice actually... nothing is worse than being at a goth night dancing to Lebanon Hanover, and some homie G or douchey dude wearing cargo shorts, sandals and a baseball cap drunkenly wanders down from the club upstairs and starts trying to grind on the girls. A club with some respectable standards of cool.

It’s techno & house, not goth. Great underground DJ’s from around the world are booked here on a regular basis. There is no shortage at all whatsoever. You are right about the ethos though. Phone use is actually banned on the dancefloor - they place stickers over your phone camera. If you’re caught you get a warning or get kicked out. No tolerance for homophobia, racism, sexism, harassment, and touch must be consensual.

It’s a techno club actually, they really trying to get the perfect vibe for techno lovers so nobody feels irritated or embarrassed. They just don’t want rude people at all, so everybody is safe and haves fun. The club is most of the time really crowded and they have a room just for men’s where are no woman’s are allowed. Also it’s pretty usual that guest have sex on the open space. A funny little rumor is that under the bathrooms are Small rooms for people that enjoy getting hit by… you know. Berghain. Been there done that. Went with my friend (both American Males) and cut the football field size line. Some actress chick we met in Berlin that day literally brought us right to the front of the line. Once inside nothing that special that i haven't seen before.
