Introducing my main project of 2024 - Shelve It or Scrap It!
I've made it no secret recently that, at this point, I have too many books. To combat that, throughout 2024 I am going to be embarking on this challenge to get all of the books I currently have stacked on the floor, onto my shelves, through a process of reading, unhauling, and reorganising my bookshelves. There's a variety of ways this can play out, but the only real rule is that no books can be added to the stacks throughout the course of each episode.
If you're a fan of reading/challenge vlogs, unhauls or bookshelf reorganisation, this is for you!

When I decide to dnf a personalized signed book and get rid of it, I just carefully tear out that page. No one ever notices.

not a bad idea, you could even use a sharp blade rather than tearing so its close to the binding and not to obvious a page removal

I did this to a personalized book signed by Robin Hobb. It was one of her new books and it was hardback while all the rest of mine are paperback so I bought a matching paperback, cut out the page with the signature to keep and traded the book to a secondhand store.

I really liked this project. And I think you shouldn't be feeling guilty to dnf a bunch of these books until you find something you really enjoy. It fulfills the purpose to keep only the books you like, and at least give a chance to some books you are in doubt. In the end, you will have a much smaller stack. Because, to me, when it comes to unhauling, I really feel guilty about unhaul books that are unread, which sometimes is necessary because taste changes, and I'm a slow reader compared with the amount the books I normally bought... trying them, and then deciding that they are really not for me, makes my conscience more in peace.

I'm happy you are DNFing books more. No point wasting time reading books you are not joining. I think it was very successful, plus there are future videos that you can show us on how things will play out. I'm excited! 💜

Part 3 of the video talks about the host’s opinions on three books that she read recently: The Stars We Steal by Alexa Donne, The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, and Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings. She also shows some of her bookshelves and rearranges some of the books. Highlights: [00:50:50]3 The Stars We Steal by Alexa Donne A sci-fi retelling of Persuasion by Jane Austen Set in space with ships and royalty Lacks depth and atmosphere, feels like Star Wars fanfiction Relies on the reader’s knowledge of the original story and characters Gave it two stars and decided to unhaul it [00:53:01]4 The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss A fantasy book about a legendary hero telling his life story Very long and slow-paced, hard to get into Did not care about the protagonist or the plot DNFed at 40% and decided to unhaul it [00:55:00]5 Zenith by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings A sci-fi book about a group of female space pirates Super hyped and anticipated, but did not live up to the expectations Poorly written, clichéd, and boring Gave it one star and decided to unhaul it [00:57:01]6 Bookshelf reorganization Moved some books from the stacks to the shelves Tried to keep the books by the same author together Struggled with the size and number of the books Ended up with 71 books in the stacks, one more than before

Part 1 of the video talks about a project called “Shelve or Stack It”, where the host tries to get rid of the stacks of books on her floor by either reading them, unhauling them, or finding a place for them on her shelves. She uses a random number generator to select the books from the stacks and then decides what to do with them. Highlights: [00:00:21]3 The goal and rules of the project To clear the floor of 70 books by the end of 2024 To use a random number generator to pick the books from the stacks To either read, unhaul, or rearrange the books to fit them on the shelves To not add any books to the stacks during the video [00:04:35]4 The first book: Alien Smoke by Lee Savino and Tabitha Black A free alien romance book that she got from a rare event An omegaverse story with knotting and mating A DNF after 52 pages because it was not her thing An unhaul that goes to the charity shop [00:10:38]5 The second book: Black Leopard, Red Wolf by Marlon James A dense and dark adult fantasy influenced by African history and mythology A story about a hunter who joins a group to find a missing child A book that she has been intimidated by for a long time A book that she is finding immersive and intriguing despite the graphic content

I love this series idea!! It’s so much fun and I will definitely tune into every episode! I totally see where you are coming from with Black Leopard Red Wolf. I thought it was a masterful book, but so extremely dark that it wasn’t necessarily enjoyable to read. It was unique, literary, and SO rewarding when I finally finished it. And I loved learning about African folklore, because I was not previously knowledgeable about it! However, you are completely valid in your DNF, because yeah it’s hella grim 😂

I had to force myself to finish The Hurricane Wars, I felt the same about it. I'm a huge Star Wars fan, not so much for the newer films, and have read reylo fanfiction and enjoyed it. It was just way too much like Star Wars: when I was able to figure out who the rebel leader really is, I wondered why I was still reading it.

First off, I adore this video project! So original and fun! Also, I DNF'd Black Leopard after 10 pages lol Too dark for me and your review confirmed it was the right decision. Also, thanks for the in-depth thoughts on Hurricane Wars. I LOVE Star Wars and was hoping that since the author wrote a Star Wars novel in the past, we would get a lot of the lore and themes. (:

Seraphina is book 1 in a Medieval-esque fantasy world duology. Tess of the Road is in the same world and some of the same characters appear but I believe you could read Tess' duology without reading Seraphina & ShadowScale first because they are quite different in tone and focus. That being said I don't know if you'll like Seraphina but i do think you'll like ShadowScale so umm... Good luck? If your random number generator hits Tess of the Road first you could read it without the others.
