Mike also another tip, as I did work in the AC industry for a bit. Just as an example if you have a digital readout of your AC temp and the lowest is 60, put it on like 63 or 64 to prevent the dryer from freezing, and use the recirculation button every now and then, for colder air. The system works with less stress if you recirculate the air already inside the cab. Also after a while if you have 3 to 4 selector settings for the fan, the lower the colder. Especially for a moving car.

The purpose of that top hole Mike. Is to add a chemical and biological air filter. The issue is you now have no pre-filter. To filter dirt out prior to air coming in to the fans. May I suggest getting a round filter and housing off of an old semi. This can be mounted on top. If it doesn't cause clearance issues. If it does simply pipe it and place elsewhere. Doing this will keep your entire system much cleaner. Less maintenance. God bless

That's where ours went. Well, the governments, anyway. I was told by another commenter it's for a snorkel, but I'm not familiar with that. Our cab NBC filter was mounted to the roof, and believe it or not, even the engine intake had its own system as well. Most equipment today comes with positive pressure HVAC systems, but for older equipment that didn't, wow does it make a difference. With the CBRN filter, (CBRN now. It was NBC) and positive pressure, I swear to pete that air was the cleanest I've ever breathed, lol. And since the cab was pressurized, you could run through a dust storm and come out the other side as clean as you went in it. The electronics would last forever pretty much. Especially switches.
@thomasdesmond2248
@thomasdesmond2248 3 жыл бұрын
@@pamike4873 you are correct. The snorkel was completely incorrect. A snorkel would only be for the engine. It would never be connected to HVAC. Also a snorkel would be useless being higher than the exhaust. Water would simply come in the exhaust. Yes the pressurized systems are great. God bless
@JasonGunn418
@JasonGunn418 6 ай бұрын
Both of you are WRONG, if it were for a biological air filter, this system would be totally sealed off, and you would see a ton of rubber seals around the unit. It could not be for a snorkel as it doesn't need to be sealed from moisture or being submerged. If you take a picture of the section he removed and google it it was used for Waste management dozers to help with cleaner air into the system to reduce the dust and dirt. Sometimes you guys really go off the deep end with your BS, and probably never served a day in the military. NBC systems are totally seal with all kinds of spray seal and rubber, a dead giveaway, if you ever served.

I know this much about ac work. Im a residential repair man for ac and if your coil inside is that dirty its a very good chance your compressor may have issues from overheating it. Obviously that poor machine was not ever properly maintained and by looking at the ac system it has been in the desert atleast half of its life

Not sure if it was military or not, but whoever ran it in the coal environment put that external air filter on the AC unit....then apparently didn't keep it maintained, based on how bad that unit is packed with coal dust. That can be a problem as coal dust mixed with water is acidic. You can see evidence of that in all the JD yellow areas that weren't painted, and around that filter inlet fitting they installed that are all corroded and the paint lifted. IMO, I would try to steam clean out every nook and cranny of that machine, under every cover, etc... to get all of that out of there, especially inside of the cab. You do NOT want to be breathing coal dust that is blowing around via the ventilation system. All that said, looking forward to seeing Sgt. Slaughter bringing the violence to some dirt once it gets back from C&C.

Many times at many military bases & installations, CIVILIANS are hired to perform work with equipment such as this. I would say this machine had a decent life based on how it runs and what DP checked out prior to purchase. PLUS, if solely military the thing would have been subjected to INSPECTION and much of the poor maintenance caught and not allowed. DP did WELL for himself!

You are much more gracious and forgiving with the seller than I would be. The truth is they are crooked liars. When a used equipment seller states “We ran it through our service department” everyone assumes they mean they have found and fixed the obvious flaws. Hopefully your experience will persuade others to steer clear of them.

If this was a military dozer I know that regular soldiers would have maintenance pull the radiator cover off but to take the fan off would go through 3rd shop which is more in depth maintenance personnel with more knowledge than regular maintenance personnel. At least this is the way the Army has it. The soldier who would operate this dozer would do PMCS or Pre Maintenance Checks & Services usually on a Monday and by the operators manual check ever but of the machine and if there are problems maintenance would work work on it but AC is not high on the list to fix nor cleaning good

Makes a big difference on the life of the machine and operator.

I remember back in the mid-1980s working as an Auto Mechanic at a local gas station. We would order a lot of parts from a guy we called "Ronnie Wrong Parts," because no matter how specific we were with the parts numbers, he or one of his delivery guys showed up with the wrong part. It got so bad that we would order the part from him (because his store was very close)and another auto parts dealer at the same time and we would tell Ronnie this and that we would buy the parts from the one that got there with the correct parts first. The funny part about that is that he would make it there first most of the time but still with the wrong part.

I never order parts without researching the correct part number. I now email my parts list to my dealer rather than talking to them. I wasted a lot of time when I would receive the wrong parts and have to make a second trip to my JD dealer. The on line ordering I used for many years, no longer works with the new AG-Pro dealership. Looks like they did not change the ac filters very often either.

Setting up and re charging an AC is not a simple matter of pulling something of a vacuum as you did. It takes a qualified and experienced hvac expert to properly set up an ac unit especially one in a mobile situation. anyone with basic gear and a few cans of freon can get an ac to produce some cold air. But, to get the unit working properly so that there is no long term damage sustained by the compressor it, once again, takes someone with the right knowledge to set your system up for long term reliability. While I'm Australian, the same laws of physics apply and they are timeless and without boundaries. I am a qualified hvac engineer and I have worked in areas from basic domestic refrigeration through container and large industrial plant. Do yourself a long term favor and get a local refrigeration guy to set your system up properly.

okay i will have a stab at the vent thing on the roof and say it was for a filter for gas wore fair the rest of the unit should have been seal by a flap or some thing like that so it only draws air from that filter this is my best guess as here in AUSTRALIA we don't have that fancied stuff as it coasts to much we get the good old gas over all's cheers if some one else knows let us all know cheers also a trick we used on our small machine was you get a piece of 1 inch filter type stuff and glue it around the edge and it did keep a lot of dust out the cooling and heating coils you also need to cut some sort of access hole to it so can wash it out from time to time we did it at service time you will have to make a cover for the hole but it not a hard job hope this helps in future as i know this video is of the old type but some thing to keep in mind for a future project cheers

If it’s man made it can be repaired, no question about it, however, the limiting factor then becomes time and money. In my case I have more time than money, (I hope) so it gets repaired by self. That’s usually the way it goes anyway. Fun to learn new things as you go, nice job once again young man.

I think you need to flip your radiator fan over. When I first saw it I thought to myself that I was surprised to see a “puller” style fan on a dozer. Then when you spun it in the correct direction near the end of the video it seems as if it was indeed a “pusher” fan. The fan will still work this way but not as efficiently. Now that the radiator is clean it may not make a difference. However, it may be a good idea next time you’re in there to see if that fan can be flipped around the other way without causing clearance issues. 👍

I took a quick look to try and see any other military dozers with something on top of the A/C unit with no luck (yet). I did see a bunch of C&C videos and during the walk around he opens the engine access door. A couple of them look like the filter housing would fit the original filter you bought so there might be a mid year upgrade or severe duty option that included a larger air filter. My old Acura CSX was a 2006 but the engine and cabin air filters were 2007 spec parts because of the timing it was made and the early change over of some components on line during production.

Move to Alaska. The air conditioner in my truck hasn't worked in over 10 years. Two summers ago could of used it for a couple of weeks. But I am south of the interior of Alaska that gets real hot in the summers (and bitter cold -40 for weeks on end in the winter).

I would keep the old condenser just because..... It looks like just a re-solder would work. I just attempted to replace a hydraulic line to a steering valve on an X595 GT and it is NLA. I searched the internet and found a used one. Three of five lines to the steering valve are NLA or JD's new term Obsolete. Never can tell if you might need it. If you have a spare, the original one will NEVER break.

Mike you should always replace your drier. Work on systems in the Navy. Your drier is the only filter on the system, it will obviously take any water out of the system. Old ones never work properly sorry to say. And water in a refrigerant system is your enemy. Many thanks for the channel you keep an old man very entertained. Nigel Royal Navy Old stoker retired

Awesome job and video, nothing like fixing something someone's already fixed weather right or wrong. But now that it's you gotta fix right , not only so it lasts longer but so it's easier the next time around. Like the splice on the hoses. Hopefully the next failure is something different and not something you did wrong. Pays to do right. Love the video and can't wait to see her in action. Jerry is going to love the A/C and closed cab.

My first thought would be to look up the part numbers on the filters…who knows if the ones in it were correct.
