Many years ago I was on the volunteer fire department. Our county had a new station built which the fire chief designed. To save on cost we were helping with some finishing touches after the building was put up and I kept noticing that the bay doors looked very narrow. I asked the chief to which he answered that he had measured the trucks himself and made absolutely certain that there was plenty of room. I then asked if he measured the bumpers or the mirrors. The look on his face was priceless. You had one inch on each side.

I know a dept. that did something similar except it was height, they measured to the roof line and forgot about horns and light bar. Instead of adjusting the door height they put the horns and lights on a flip down bracket which was a total disaster in itself.

yup i seen it too. here in Canada it would never get that bad, as we have to have a shop do a safety inspection on all trucks one ton and up, and trailers over 10,000 GVW every 12 months, with a yellow safety sticker in the driver side window, it cost me $1200 a year for the inspection for my 5 ton and $600 for my 14,000 gvw trailer, not including any parts or repairs, all wheels have to come off,the shop go over it like a fine tooth comb. its there shop and mechanics license on the line, worst is so much as a hair line crack on the wall of a tire it fails, there just whether cracks, how many tires i have had to change were the tread 9% new bu a small side wall crack.. $1200 each an Michelin tires are the worst, my front steer tires didnt even have 1500 miles on them and had to replace both front tires. Michelin refused to go good on them at all, both tires had a small star crack. jumk.. $2700 gone. my 4 back re-treads have been on that truck for years no cracks

Lock and Lube makes a zerk fitting attachment that loads up with penetrating oil that you can hit with a hammer and load up the fitting with oil. Also I've never tried it but sometimes i've heard throwing a little heat at the fitting can loosen up the old grease. Another great vid!

My neighbor uses the lock and lube grease buster… another thing that works, for me, on some fittings is to change the pressure in the joint. Sometimes adding down pressure or uplift will open the flow.

I was thinking of the same item but it’s still likely better to remove the pins since the grease might flow but only on one side of the pin.

The mechanics in our Case backhoe shop would use a hydraulic handpump (or porta power) plumbed into to zirk hole to put pressurized oil to break through dirt and rust clogging the bearing channels. Worked pretty well with the oil able to penetrate better than grease.

I know the dozer service has been completed and it has left the garage. For when a tight fit happens again cut the trim board on the big door up around 4' and cut it off. Gently remove and repeat to other side. That will gain you ruffly 2" in width. Replace trim board with screws for future use.

in the town I live the village barns ,, the shop where they fix there trucks for road work and plowing ,, with the snow plows on could not fit the truck in .. they cut a notch in the wall .. they remove that chunk when they need to pull a truck in with a plow .. would have looked better if they just put a 2 foot wider door up instead ,,

@@randytravis3998 small town budgets… small town fixes… when I was a kid in the late ‘50s… the town bought a home made, water filled, roller from a councilman’s welding shop. They pulled it down the unpaved roads before they oiled them… to keep the dust down. (The oil came from the mayor’s brothers service station. It was from his oil change sump.) Come winter, the roller froze. The welder councilman, who had sold it to the city, offered to repair it for standard shop rates. The Mayor and a couple of other councilmen objected. They finally approved three motions: 1. The welder councilman could do the repair, but at a discounted rate. 2. He must refill it with antifreeze mix to prevent recurrence. 3. The antifreeze mix was to be purchased from the Mayor’s brothers service station! When my dad told this story, he always added… “Town business was almost as in-bred as the population!”

Great video! And, proof of why I hate Dozer Grease Fittings! For my Case 450B, most of the time if I take the fitting out and clean out the fitting well with a small screw driver, then fill the well with penetrating fluid, the fitting will take grease. If it doesn't I'll move that part of the blade, or whatever, and generally it will take grease. Only about 1 out of 10 times is the fitting itself defective. When all else fails - get out the fire wrench! Thanks, Mike and Aaron!

Seeing you inch that sucker in reminded me of an incident that happened many many years ago back in the late 90's when i delivered equipment to DIYer's from a rental store . I delivered a 450J to fella and that dozer was equipped with the decelerator pedal . I was always very thorough on my warning about that pedal to renters but things being what they are , Murphys law and all "stuff" happens . Long story short i came back three days later to pick up said machine and the fella had removed a large portion of his garage . I had always thought that was a horrible machine choice for a rental store just for that reason alone . It still makes me chuckle today when i think about it .

Mike, I really enjoy your channel and watch most videos as soon as they post. I have a request or recommendation for a future video that I am hopeful you will consider. There are tons of dozier videos on KZbin that show doziers pushing and ripping but not any that I have found that go into detail on what the operator is actually watching and paying attention to as they are moving dirt. This is especially true when grading with a dozier like your D4. I'm not an operator myself but I have had occasion to make a mess with a piece of heavy equipment. Perhaps a video with you describing the intricacies of the proper way to load the blade, carry the load, and what the operator is looking for when distributing the load on a grading project. There has to be some do's and don'ts that have to be observed when ripping hard material like you guys had on the water line project. I have always enjoyed watching true professionals working at their craft and I feel this is true for most people. Other wise how can we explain why Bob Ross was so popular with his painting videos. That gives me an idea for a new moniker for Jerry, "The Bob Ross of dozier operators." I can just about hear Jerry saying, "We have all the happy little piles of dirt." Maybe not???

The fan blade direction was one of the most common causes of overheating on the old BMC/Austin/Morris Mini. Most people, including mechanics didn't realise that they blew out through radiator, not in. I have seen the same error of fitting happen on a few other machines as well, including some stationary engines.
@Crewsy
@Crewsy 2 жыл бұрын
The irony is that if he installed the fan backwards it would still blow out. Flip it around and the angles stay the same but it likely won’t flow as well since in normal use running in reverse is only to clean the rad from dust buildup.
@Damoinion
@Damoinion 2 жыл бұрын
@@Crewsy Yep, they will still blow the same way but the actual flow efficiency is where it goes wrong when the blades are backwards. Kind of like putting the blades upside-down on a helo. The pressure differential just does not work right.
@Crewsy
@Crewsy 2 жыл бұрын
@@Damoinion That’s what I said. 🤦‍♂️ The normal operation of the fan on the 850J blows out the front drawing air across the rad but it can through a setting reverse the direction to blow back in towards the rad the clear dust and debris but due to the shape of the blades it’s not as efficient hence as I said if the fan was installed backwards it would still blow forward but not as efficiently. The Austin Mini was odd more because the rad wasn’t in the grille since it was essentially in the fender so it didn’t benefit from airflow while driving.

Crazy ideas? Just getting that beast into the shop was a crazy idea. Heck, I was stressed out just watching it, and I knew it was in there from other pictures! Thanks for the morning chuckle (or two.)

Oh boy. A "top secret project". I can't wait to find out what it is. 😉 6 hour round trip to Nashville Indiana? You must have gotten lost because Clint didn't take that long with Kevin when they came to Derby to install the ripper. 🤣😂

Cool Aaron! An old stingray bike!😍🥰. Already saw C&C's video on repairing your trailer DP. That trailer was a disaster waiting to happen😬😱. So you get on Aaron for playing with his hose and here you are playing Plinko with a bolt, LOL.

Seen Clint at C &C fix up the trailer, BUT officer Hoover should have taken that thing (your lowboy) out of service the day he seen it. Looks like Clint did a good job fixing it.

HaHa, unfortunately as rough as you think DPs trailer was, there are many many more trailers on the roads that are about to fall apart!! This wasnt really as bad as they made it seem. Yes, it needed the repairs badly but other then the u bolts about to fail, the rest was just needing maintained and fixed up.

Watching access to small areas eg fan, and thinking is there anything such as a flexible long lamp to reach all corners also the same type to attachment for such things as a camera/go-pro. Hands free that is. Fun video 'Doctor Perfect'.
