My family and I visited Japan last year. I would love to live in Japan permanently, but too bad I don’t know the language and all our family and friends are in the states. I admire people who can take such a big risk and make such a life change!

Hi I live in the US had become a citizen in 2020 now 50years since my move to US. You can do it too. Start from signing up for short term home stay program. You don't need to speak Japanese at all but just have open attitudes to learn the culture and a little bit of Japanese to start with. Nothing like having Japanese host family who can help you navigate life in Japan. You can also sign up for working holiday programs. Check on google to find if there's any organizations that offers such programs. Just a small steps at a time.

Like I said in the video, it comes with ups and downs, and pretty drastic ones, often at the same time or very near each other. That's why family and our church family was so key to making it work - talk about a major stabilizing factor, because you really do miss friends, family and even familiar culture back from the States.

@mikiohirata9627 Wow congratulations!! That's great advice!
Awesome & I hope all goes well with your family in getting to make Japan your permanent home. Definitely a beautiful place, culture, & people! ❤️🇯🇵🤍 I moved to Okinawa 8 yrs ago from the U.S. and have never looked back. I lived in northern JP several yrs ago, but then had to return to the states due to work. BUT, finally made my way back many yrs later & hoping to make it MY forever home as well. 🙏 Thank you to your sweet fam & friends for all the wonderful vids!

Wow- what a journey you've been on! Thanks for sharing.
I am glad that you have come to love Japan so much that you have decided that you want to live in Japan permanently. There are many things that are not good about Japan, just like any other country in the world. Still, I think it is safer than other countries. Children will be able to grow up with little worry. I don't have a specific religion, but I do believe in something as vague as destiny. I wish you and your family a peaceful and happy life in Japan.

@ that is so awesome that you guys have students who go to your church. I was there in 2008 and it would have been great to have a church close by to invite friends to. A guy at my church actually studied there in the 80s and said there used to be a monorail that went over Mukogaokayuen station

The heater in our kotatsu only worked one day then nothing! But i was expecting it not to work because it's 30 years old after all. Fortunately, a replacement heater is a whole lot less than a whole new kotatsu!

Hey I’m a subscriber but not a religious follower. Regardless, I like seeing your happy family lives. I started learning Japanese just over a month ago for fun. Katakana is hard to remember after how easy hiragana was to memorize with mnemonics 😅

Learning Japanese is a big challenge, but it's very rewarding too!
@danhill11862 ай бұрын
Great to see you are moving closer to permanent residence! If I may ask, how much Japanese has been needed so far in your interactions (appointments, forms, ...) with the Japanese authorities? Is everything in Japanese, if yes, have you been able to do everything on your own (which means your Japanese must be pretty good now 🙂 ), or is English also used? Thank you!
@LIJ2 ай бұрын
Most everything is in Japanese when talking, however many forms now also have English options. But in the beginning, it really helps to have someone who knows Japanese with you. You can still do it alone, but it will go better with a Japanese speaker. Also so many apps help with translation now, so that's also very helpful in a bind.
