Thank you Hilary. It has been about 3 weeks since we made the soap now and so far the colours have remained the same and not faded. Fingers crossed it stays this way!

Nice simple soap, the colours work well together, the flower you chose really sets it all off perfectly, i think the colours look better after a week x

Hi Anne! Wow, I love the purple you achieved & the globe amaranth flower on top. I'll have to give this natural purple a try. Well done!!! Cathy - Gold River, CA

Love it!! So excited to find a good natural green that doesn't fade dull or brown. YAY! Thank you!! The purple is lovely as well. I was just planning on trying gold clay with a little indigo to see if that would make a green.

It is a lovely shade isn't it! If anything, it fades to a slightly bluer green but definitely not brown :-)

Thank you! To be honest, I wasn't expecting to like the colour scheme while we were making (it was more about testing the colours) but once it was unmolded and cut I really loved it!

I have to ask where you get your indigo! Ours is more of an almost greenish-blue denim colour, whereas yours is a lovely royal blue. Certainly brighter! We're in Canada, so maybe we won't find the same supplier, but something similar perhaps if you can direct us to where you got it! And thank you for performing this test and sharing it with us! You're so right that these types of things are not really out there, so as someone who appreciates the beauty of natural colourants, this was super useful to me! Happy Friday! 😊

Hi Tubby Tabby and thank you so much for your comment. We use both Indigo powder and Indigo dye in our soaps and the Indigo dye is much more bright and vibrant. The Indigo powder is the green/blue colour that you mention. We used Indigo dye in this particular soap and we purchase it from The Soap Kitchen here in the UK. I know they do ship abroad, but not too sure if they send to Canada or not I am afraid. If you go to their site and search for "Indigo dye" it should bring it up for you to at least be able to compare! It's nice to hear from a fellow lover of natural colourants! We have a few more videos coming up focusing on getting the most from natural colours, so hopefully you may find them useful too! Have a lovely weekend! :-)

If you let the naturally colored soap go through gel phase the colors may be more vibrant. Pretty soap.

Hi Faith and thank you for your comment. We allowed this soap to go through gel phase to make the colours as vibrant as possible. We use the oven method with all of our naturally coloured soaps to force gel and try and and ensure the colours are as bright as possible and last as long as possible :-)

Lovely as usual. I have a question. When you hot bathe your oils in the crockpot do you tighten the kids? I love your videos
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany 3 жыл бұрын
This made me laugh Teri as I read it as do I "frighten my kids". I mean, I do regularly like to try and scare my Children as it amuses me...... sorry, going off topic! I presume you meant to say lids and no, I should have said that I do leave them slightly loose. I feel like with the heat and possible expansion of the oil that it is safer to leave the lids slightly loose so that there is a little space for expansion. I am sure someone will come along and tell me I don't need to do it this way, but it just feels safer to me to do it this way!

Hi Susan, yes there are a number of different Indigo's and they all give wildly different colour results! For this soap here, I used blue Indigo dye from the Soap Kitchen. It is incredibly expensive but this is the one you will want if you want to create really bright, striking blues! Don't confuse it with blue Indigo powder, which is much cheaper but won't give the same bright blue colour (blue indigo powder is good for muted, blue/grey colours). Also, just to warn you, there is talk of Indigo potentially being banned for use in cosmetics and body products (except hair dye) in the near future (we are hoping this doesn't happen as it will mean we will need to reformulate some of our recipes). If the ban does come into force then you won't be allowed to sell new products made with Indigo any longer :-(

@@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany Thanks for that. I made soap on a large scale almost 15 years ago, but when we moved, I left it behind. Now I'm starting up again, and wanting to create some 'pretty' soaps myself. But as naturally as possible. So using essential oils, and natural colorants. I appreciate your words! 😊

It was a bit strange! It stayed incredibly vibrant (the purple did not change) but the green turned blue in patches. I guess the indigo came through much more as it cured!

What do they look like now?
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany
@TheSussexHandmadeSoapCompany 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Brittany. The colours are looking good and there is hardly any fading which is great. The purple especially has lasted really well. The green is looking good too, but there are a couple of spots where it has faded to more of a blueish green, though these are minimal and the predominant colour is still a bright green. Overall this seems to be the best way I have found to get a vibrant green that doesn't fade too badly.
