The mine seems remote enough not to be a danger to me.... That foam is flammable, just fyi. Ive read articles about how they have to re-spray after a forest fire... Idea? Maybe if you had fire fighting tools with you, don't breath it in and let the adit air out for a day! The FS has been busy this year and had just recently filled up a mine right down the road from me that only went in about 15 ft. I was able to re-open it just to make a point as it seems like the destruction team half-assed it. They even installed a culvert and a stay out stay alive sign... How much do you think they spent on that little project just to protect who knows who from a 15 ft hole???

A couple questions... 1, I understand the forest service filling in the shaft to keep people from being injured/killed trying to go where they shouldn't, but why the spray foam? 2, You've said in other videos that you carry an air meter to monitor O2 levels, but do you ever get sick from being in contaminated water or do you worry about bacteria or mold from the moisture in some of the mines?
@kevin_brown_dc34239 ай бұрын
That sucks with the Jeep. I had a same year Chevy S-10 that did that one day in the snow. Turns out it was an electric solenoid lever on the front axle that engages the hubs that went out. I think that year Jeep had the same thing but worse it is a vacuum activated switch. There are some field temporary methods to fix those issues though.

The rest have all been reclaimed by the forest service, unfortunately...
@TVRExploring3 жыл бұрын
Oh, the destruction of abandoned mines is a huge scam! There are a large number of government employees and contractors that make a good living from it now though. If they were to stop finding "dangerous" abandoned mines that we needed to be "protected" from, they'd all be out of a job. So, guess what? Somehow they just keep finding more and more dangers that need to be made safe... The statistics about abandoned mines reveal the big lie. The majority of deaths connected to abandoned mines are drownings (people swimming in rock quarries) and vehicle accidents (racing an ATV or dirt bike around an old mine site and crashing). Do you see what a stretch it is to use those incidents as justification for the bulldozing of historic buildings and the sealing of mines on a massive scale?

The Forest Service has got to the point of pathetic. Had a buddy with a high level position with the USFS. He retired early due to cover-ups of various federal violations, including the use and storage of explosives. He tried to blow the whistle but it always got swept under the rug. In addition, they waist taxpayers money with contracting totally unnecessary mine closures. They also do virtually nothing to control bark beetle infestations. Entire sections of fir forest are being wiped out in the West. In some places it takes only a few years. Once these forests are dead, they become an extreme fire hazard. These are just a few examples what's going on with the USFS.

As I was studying fire maps I was thinking these might be good places to mine explore next year. Most of the fires are on Federal land (Forestry and BLM). There will be less brush to fight to get to locations, and some new bulldozer fire roads to help get to places. Like up in Plumas National Forest, and up around Sacramento Mountain north of Whiskeytown. I'm not sure if that is Federal or CalFire land up there. But these fires might distract them from putting in so much time closing mines. I know you're not a prospector, but these areas might also be good for placer mining next year if we get some good rains this winter. With the underbrush burned off there will be a lot of erosion and new soil washed down into the creeks and rivers. Though suction dredges are no longer legal in California, (I think) you can still highbank and run a sluice. There could be gold in the new overburden :>

They make a kit to put the front axel lock in . Its basically a throttle idle cord like in big trucks that you can pull it out and turn the idle up. Its about 200 bucks again ( about ) .the front actuator is air-driven. Look at the front axle where the actuator is in the stew tube nipples that stick out of it sometimes they rust off sometimes they break off and sometimes it's just an airline leak on the lines running that. I switched mine over to that cable and I've never had a problem with it since. I've been in that position where you guys were and it's no fun. Two types of gold mines - "Lode" and "placer"... No sir but I'd love that! Currently I have a 4.2L inline 6 fuel injection. 4.2L block (258) with the 4.0L head and fuel injection kit. Gives the 4.2L about 50 or more hp than usual. Rebuild took about 3 weeks to a month every day after I'd get home from work. Edit + headers.

Sign in the town of Goodyear Bar. circa 1852 NOTICE TO DOGS “All dogs within the limits of Goodyears Bar will please take notice, that by the laws of said town, you are required to call immediately to the marshall’s office and obtain a tag. On and after four days all dogs found within said limits without a tag will be impounded at their own expense, and after imprisonment for three days will be shot until they are dead.” Records fail to show if the dogs heeded the notice.

At the Faro-Quartz, were there two pipes, or just one? The vid looked like there were two. The smaller one had a standard hose bib fitting, so was definitely water. The larger pipe had a valve which could be used for either water or air. Don't the drills use air for power and water for cooling?
@TVRExploring3 жыл бұрын
I don't remember the number of pipes, but if they were drilling, there should have been a line for compressed air and one for water. So, yes, two lines. The water is to prevent dust rather than for cooling. Too many miners were dying from silicosis and so they modified the design of the drills to inject water into the hole being drilled.

I suppose they sometimes have special markers in the mine or take pics inside whicg can be run through image recognition software. Its the 21st century after all. I doubt they get that elaborate though for an old mine very few govt employees would be cleared to enter under regular circumstances.
