Will, if you're gonna use the van to charge things up, DON'T. bite the bullet and buy a $100 generator at HarborFreight. It's job is to create energy and it's much more efficient at that then your minivan. As a bonus, the noise will scare off the critters. As another bonus it adds another layer to the backups for the backups you need for an environment like this. Edit. You leaving dirty dishes at night is probably what's bringing the cougars so close. If you don't wash them get a big bin with a lid to put them in and seal up till the next day.

Some tips for you, Ive done lots of log building. Your saw chain is too tight. When you pull the chain with gently force you should be able to lift it about half inch off the bar. Yours is too tight and will wear the bar too fast and over heat it. For a log to span you need a length equal to 1 to 1.5 times diameter but in ft. So say you have a 6 inch diameter log, it will span about 6 to 9 feet depending on the type fo wood and how many knots. Watch a few saw safety videos. Guys I've worked with who get careless will have accidents. I'm not a chaps guy either but that's me. Right now I think you're biggest risk of injury is from the chainsaw. Keep having fun but play safe.

Will, if your wood stove is new and has been painted, you need to make sure to get run it and get it hot. It’s gonna smell really bad the first few times but eventually it’ll stop. Not sure how deep your posts are going, but just a suggestion for cold weather environments - you're going to want to put your supports and poles at LEAST 3 - 4 feet deep. Basically needs to be as deep as your frost line, plus another foot or two. Otherwise, during the freezing and thaw... the ground will heave it up and your structures etc. will get wonky and fall apart over time. Keep on keepin' on!!

Will, I admire your work and goals. The dedication to improving yourself is inspirational. Your mentality through all of your struggles is something to be respected. And the results are nothing short of awesome. But as someone who started working at the age of 5 in tree removal/care with a specialty in fire mitigation and forest health and going on my 23rd year in my field, I have a lot of suggestions for both you (Will) and the property owner. From what I have seen of Will's videos, a lot of the taller coniferous trees are going to die off or snap in high winds or winter storms. The green branches are less on than a third of the total tree's height. In conifers, this will isolate the shock of wind/snowload just below the lowest green branches. This will often snap the tree at the weakest point in the stem below the green. Clean your chainsaw's air filter regularly! That needs to be end of work maintenance. This is more important if you are a few thousand feet above sea level. Blowing out your clutch in below freezing weather is also of dire importance. Last bit is to research ripping chain for chainsaws, this is the chain you want for making planks as it is designed for cutting with the grain. Please do not use ripping chain for anything else, it is not to be messed with. Stupid dangerous outside of plank making and even then you need to respect that it is way more aggressive than a standard chainsaw chain.
@joeystull568211 ай бұрын
Chainsaw tip too, on your exhaust there’s a wire mesh screen (spark arrestor or sum as I understand it) take it off and torch it till it glows and put it back on. It burns off all the carbon so the motor can breath. This the last one man, much love, west Texas

Get yourself a set of post hole diggers, Seymour is a good brand, and a digging bar. Most bars come with a flared end at the top that you can use to tamp and stiffen the dirt to make a sturdier post. Rule of thumb is to dig a hole to be 1/3 of the length of the post you are setting.

when you bury the post, you should get a bag of cement and sand. mix the cement and sand with rocks and water and pour it around the posts if you want them to stay for a really long time. if you plan on moving them then what you’re doing is fine, maybe just dig them a little bit deeper.
@keltonchavis598311 ай бұрын
I know this is going sound crazy but then post will rot way quicker in cement than in just being dug deep as shit and packed and tamped the hell out of it dirt drys out and becomes saturated with the seasons etc that cement will trap moisture from within the wood itself and make it a straight perfect environment for rot to start but either way it's so wet there it want matter to much cause of its going rot regardless at a high rate but will last longer than he will ever be concerned with I promise that either way he does but in dry climates cement for sure will take out a wood post before natural hole and post setup will rot

I have a couple years experience living in a cabin so i might have a little helpful insight. Maybe mount your pathway lights to posts so they don't get buried in snow. For trash, separate burnables from plastic/cans and take trash out every time you go to town or it will get overwhelming and attract critters. Lay down bark and small twigs on your pathways or it will become a mucky mess. Def look into getting a small generator. You going to do an outdoor fire pit? Be nice to warm up and would also clean up some of the branch piles around there. Those canvas/tarp roofs are going to load up with snow. It's easy to knock off 3-4 inches but 8-12 inches will be HEAVY. Might try to get extra support under those. Keep it up man. I'd love to still be doing this.

Love the videos man! Long time archery hunter here and I love that you got a bow and started practicing! If I could give you a some advice I’d try to have a pre shot routine and do the exact same thing in each shot. Hold the bow in your left hand the same, same anchor points on your face etc. Also I would just shoot at 10-15 years until you get really consistent groups then you can adjust the sight if need be and move to further distances! Keep it up man you are so inspiring!

Congratulations on the plaque, keep doing what you’re doing. Don’t worry about the haters, you’ve come a long way from when you first started doing this I remember watching your video on your trip to New Mexico the first attempt of cooking with the little Coleman stove, regarding your water bottles, try not to let them freeze because ice expands, and it will rupture, plastic containers, much love from a hommie truck driver. Give hoop some belly, rubs, and ear scratches for me and yeah, a tiny house for camera dude would be pretty dope

Ha! That reminds me of my Chihuahua when she was a Puppy, she used to carry around a cotton bud lid.

Starting to like pretty dope out there, Pimpin! Be careful leaving those steaks out, because of those cougars. And Idk if the bears hibernate out there, they don't here in Florida, but i know they come out of hibernation a little sketchy because they need to eat. So, 99% of time, I wouldn't about them, but some of those bears coming out of hibernation don't give a damn. Looking forward to some more videos, bro. Hoop Dawg!

1. Get your driveway sorted so you can escape should things hit the fan. 2. Build your buddy an insulated shelter, freezing every night brings moral down fast. 3. (Long term) build a root cellar and/or storage for tools and non perishable foods. Can't leave that chainsaw out in the snow year round!

Brother, I can’t imagine life being blind or def. Please wear eye/ear protection. Also chaps are extra warmth and layer of protection when crashing through brush and branches they also have a pocket perfect for carrying your scrench for quick chain tensioning to keep the chain from jumping off the bar. BTW I can imagine life without a foot, I imagine there would be a lot of hopping😮. Seriously I’ve made some irresponsible/irreversible mistakes that would have been almost consequence free if I had been following basic safety precautions. I hope to see you set a good example for the rest and live to work another day. Also Tinnitus is horrible. And if you get an eye punctured don’t pull the object out, the eye will deflate like a water balloon and be even worse. I hope your first aid kit has a tourniquet and is always kept close by. Remember You are your first responder. Take care brother.

Tiny home sounds fun to watch. Look into bubble insulation. It’s like bubble wrap with a silver side that helps to push your body heat back at you. You could put it in the van too. Keep up the great work!

Also I believe your doggo is right at the age where it's you or him who is alpha, he looks at you for action when you command him, give him none and he will assume alpha mode, he may settle in as #2 cause you have the food but I digress, keep on keeping on

Hey will loving the content, make sure to clean the solar panels off, the light during a dim day will still generate some power. If the panels have snow on them they will not be doing much.
