Ever since that day, I've been obsessed. My parents thought I was insane, they took me to a therapist. But they just don't understand the special connection I have with bagels. Every bagel I collect has a different size and taste, and I love each and every one of them. They're perfect. My parents sadly still don't understand my love with bagels. They judge me. My dad always complains how I need to get a job and move out, while my mom complains how there's to many cockroaches and rats in the basement, where I live, and keeps telling me to throw the "old" bagels out. But in the book, the plane ride was just the opening of the story, and the rest of the story was an intriguing exploration into human nature and what humanity would do if a quarter (a third? a fifth? not sure) of humanity suddenly disappeared. Claude Palmer The books are based off the Rapture, which is a Christian concept. I certainly believe that there are good and bad people of every religion or lack thereof, but the concept is an event which only takes "true Christians" and innocents (children or other people incapable of consciously choosing to do bad things). The book took the Rapture and made a story out of it, whereas the movie took a pre-existing story and made it pure stupidity. As I said, I haven't read the books in awhile, but as I recall things didn't immediately go to looting and rioting. The violence was from suddenly driverless cars crashing into each other, or unattended stovetops burning down houses, things like that. The movie is just stupid. Even if we go off of the (stupid) idea that all non-Christians will immediately start looting without the Christians, it makes no sense that they do it immediately. How the heck do they know that all the people who disappeared were Christian? (Also, the clothes falling from the ceiling made me laugh. What, were people just floating up there before they were Raptured?)

And that’s not all, this movie is based off a book series co-written by two pastors. They even had a prequel series about the birth of the Antichrist and a spin-off series about how they imagined it would be *AFTER* Jesus came back and defeated the devil, and everyone went to Paradise. I am American and I can 100% confirm that I love bagels. Bagels are a central part of our society. I remember my first bagel ceremony in great detail. I was standing on the stage, and then suddenly a majestic bagel flew down and landed on my shoulder. I have the picture, and my parents were never prouder. I never leave home without a bagel, and the greatest honor anyone can receive is the Best Bagel Award at the Oscars. This film speaks to me on a emotional level.

I am a passionate Christian, not a religion-shover who tries to force everyone to convert to my religion, and this film disgusts me. They think God would do any of this? They actually think God is so cruel that he would leave people to be forgotten and left away from Heaven and put in Hell forever for comparatively tiny, human mistakes? Premeditated murder; yes, that's understandable, you are desecrating life, God has said several times that you are disrespecting life by cutting another short and doing a heinous act. Lying in a position of power and damning several people to hellish lives? Yeah, that would probably get you there too. But just being a drug addict? Flirting? Questioning blind faith and wanting proof that there is a god in the world? Leading a perfectly good and beneficial, kind, friendly life, but just following a different religion? Only man ever said not believing in Jesus or God would put them in Hell, not God. Our Father is merciful and cares, like a good Father does, and when we've been lead too far astray to be reigned in, in the beginning of humanity when entire civilizations from then on could be corrupted by it, he sometimes chose to end it out of anger and frustration. But this is the filmmaker's idea of God's care? His love? His mercy? Don't know what kind of father the filmmaker had, but it certainly isn't my Father.

If you think of God as a being with a mind and personality instead of just being fixated on a few things He's done, He has more than just acts that make Him seem cruel.

Peaceful flower Well, it depends which "version" of God you believe in. The old testament God is a bit of a vengeful bastard, but the more contemporary God is definately more paternal.

Well, I think of God as a person and how both those qualities would fit together more in context. For a mind, what qualities would someone have to behave like that? Maybe God was more strict and harsh back when the world was closer to starting, and then, as time went on, God changed His approach to being more passive and kind and to leave things more to man, or maybe He actually came to be sad over His actions in the past and wanted to not be like that from then on. God is a being too, and we were modeled in His image, so I definitely don't think it's impossible God wanted to change how He acted as time went on. That's not a sign of imperfection, merely a change of mind for the times. That's how I think about it, anyways.

As a Christian, the movie is very stupid. It claims that all the Christians will dissapear and be taken away from the sinners. This is just a lazy ideology to not spread the message of Christ and to keep to ourselves. This a very selfish idea the rapture is, "let's keep to ourselves because those evil people are going to burn anyway."
