A little information about dumplings - pierogi.The oldest dumplings come from China. Saint Jacek Odrowąż brought pierogi to Poland in the 12th century. He saw the recipe for dumplings in Ruthenia(Western Ukraine today) from the Tarars. Hence the traditional name Ruthenian pierogi (pierogi ruskie). Before the dumpling meal, the following prayer was said: "St. Jacek with dumplings, pray to God for us that these dumplings will be on the table all year round and protect us from hunger ”. A bit about traditional Krakow pastries now. The obwarzanek krakowski has been produced since the Middle Ages. The obwarzanek krakowski dough is first steamed, then baked. The bagels also come from Krakow. Krakow's Jews had been baking them since the 17th century. It was occasional bred. The bagels were given to a woman after a successful childbirth. Bagels were brought by immigrants to the USA at the end of the 19th century. It's a symbol of NY, not Krakow now.

Why Americans eat dumplings with a knife and fork. The knife should not be used for soft dishes, eg minced cutlet, dumplings, stuffed cabbage, stew, etc. We use it for steak, pork chop, roasts.
@joanapintotravels2 жыл бұрын
Hi! We usually don't cut it with a knife but we were trying to show the inside so had to do that despicable thing ahahah 😅

If you like zapiekanka you can make it yourself at home. It's a toasted half baguette, grated cheese, and sautéed champignons + your personal toppings, sauce. In Poland, we don't eat typical American pancakes. We eat creps and we fill it with cottage cheese, Nutella, blueberries, strawberries, meat, cabbage and mushrooms, jam. You can fry creps on a pan or not. You can provide them fat with bacon, sour cream, sugar. Creps can be like dessert or as the main menu.

Attention to the future of donut eaters, pay attention to where the hole is where the filling is inserted and start eating from this hole, otherwise the filling will end up on your clothes.

Pierogi were not born in Poland, even the name (ruskie) means they came here from behind the eastern border, from Rus (south western part of the Ukraine). I love watching foreigners eating Polish food and you all seem to love Polish soups, you should've tried more, we are the ultimate soup empire :D

@@joanapintotravels Only the pierogi you ate (with potato and cheese) are called ruskie - but there are plenty of other types - both savoury (meet, sauerkraut and mushrooms) and sweet (quark, fruit).

Why do you think they are not? Zapiekanka is, I think, the most traditional Polish street food, and pączki are totally traditional.
