Traditional Hutspot has potatoes carrots and onions boiled at one third each, added is meat pieces after they were used to make beef stock. Butter to mash and often complemented with smoked sausage similar to Frankfurters. It is famous from the myth of the Dutch resistance war against the Spanish 400 years ago, where when Spanish besieged Leiden, and were finally rescued by the ancestor of the current Royal Family, finding a dish similar to hutspot in the Spanish encampment, hence the yearly hutspot festival in Leiden

Little addition to the Hutspot recipe: when you boil the potatoes apart until they're reeeeally soft, pour out the water and add a little bit of milk and butter and then mash them. If you pan-fry onions and carrots in the same pan (and add nutmeg, salt, pepper and a bit of curry powder) and then add them to the mashed potatoes, I think you get a dish that has more layers of flavour. Also, typically hutspot is eaten with 'hachee' , 'rookworst' or 'spekjes'.

No one is sensationalizing Covid-19. My cousin died of Covid-19 this morning. He was 38. They tried all the treatments available and nothing. He was gone less than a week after his symptoms started. He went to a doctor's appointment, that's all. He wore a mask, the doctor followed all procedures, but he ended up showing symptoms 3 days later. Before he got put on the ventilator, he said he thought it was the guy in the waiting room that kept fidgetting with his mask. They are doing contact tracing now. This virus is relentless and the worse is that we haven't found why some people survive even if they are old and others die so quickly even if they are relatively young. They are also checking which strain he had because it was so vicious to his body. Within 48 hours he was on a ventilator and I woke up to the news today that he had passed. Let's count ourselves lucky that we haven't gotten it, but PLEASE do not get cocky or dismissive. We are all tired. None of us are happy to wear a mask. Please, if not for you, wear a mask for someone you don't want to lose. This agony is something no family should go through.

@TheGabygael Жыл бұрын
gratin dauphinois is litteraly considered an easy dish over here because you can basically make it and forget it in the oven while doing something else (in my family we cook the potatoes in milk first and take an oven dish, scrape garlic over it shove the potatoes in add cream, nutmeg, salt and pepper surprisingly not onion, i should think of it and cheese and pop in the oven until the cheese is golden brown) the purists will say a real Dauphinois doesn't have cheese, the dish with cheese is technically a Gratin Savoyard (after the region of Savoye, known for its cheese dishes) but it's literaly a gratin dauphinois but with cheese. It is indeed a really normal daily french food a thing most people in france (and here in french speaking belgium and i cannot speak for luxemburg or switzerland or any other country bordering france) to the point where it can even be purchased quite easily pre-made at a local supermarket i even found it in a can if you're interested in french food but intimidated by the gravitas of it all, take a look at regional cooking, it's much closer to what people actually eat, is less fussy (and quite frankly snobbish) than gastronomic and i find it much better, more interesting, more fulfilling, more varied (and less expensive)

Hope you get well soon. My mom also lost her sense of smell for some days but thankfully it came back after a few days. Taste and smell is something we dont really think about but when its gone its so scary to realise how much source of pleasure they are in life. Although we are so lucky to get it back when a lot.of people have such serious symptoms. Gesundheit! 💜💜

You could also replace the carrots with kale. We call that one "boerenkoolstamppot". Literally that means something like "farmers cabbage mash". I prefer this one :) I would suggest adding butter, salt and pepper to taste though and optionally mustard.

Hey Beryl, I’m glad you’re feeling better. There is a German dish I was introduced to, called labskaus (the German dish not the Norwegian stew) and basically, you take potatoes boil them until super soft, then take some canned corned beef cook it down in a pot with some stock and a bay leaf, add the potatoes to the beef and mash them so that it’s like a chunky mash (you’ll need the texture lol) then my mom would add a bit of the pickled beet juice to make the color even more appetising 🙄😂. Once that’s all combined and seasoned with salt and pep, you fry some eggs so they are still runny. Add the beef and potato mixture to a plate top with the fried egg and serve with pickles, pickled herring (gross), or my favorite way is just with a big portion of the pickled beets (but they have to be cold straight from the fridge) I like the hot and cold combination. It’s the ugliest food, but so tasty 😍

I love this video series! Really nice to see all the variants of certain dishes around the world. Here are some suggestions from Chile for future dishes: - Chacarero (Sandwich with Sliced beef, green beans and sliced tomato served on a bun. You can add home made mayo if you want some creaminess and/or spicy peppers for spicyness). - Charquicán (Several vegetables (Potatoes, carrots, pumpkin, among others) mashed and mixed with diced beef, served in a single plate. Can be topped with a fried egg. - Porotos con Riendas (Beans with Noodles. Traditional beans cooked along with fried vegetables for spicyness and short noodles. Can add sausage or longaniza for extra flavor.) - Beef Empanadas (Variants of these exist all over South America. Chilean version are made with beef (diced or minced), onion, hard-bolied egg, one whole black olive and a raisin (not a fan of raisins personally but it's part of the recipe))

Eileen, that's WONDERFUL! Don't know if you know, but it's better to NOT take pre-emptive ibuprofen, acetaminophen, etc. (for pain relief from the shot). Your body will have more antigens in the future if you skip the over-the-counter meds for 14 days. Scientists realized this trait by studying the bloodwork of kids whose parent gave pre-emptive pain-relief for childhood vaccines vs. those whose parent did not. The kids who didn't get the pain meds had better counts in the future. Hope you see this in time! And I'm happy you got your shot!

@@englishatheart There are no side effects. And are you really willing to roll the dice on something that could KILL YOU, in lieu of taking a tested, safe vaccine? Please call your healthcare professional to discuss this. You really have nothing to worry about, and if we are to put an end to this pandemic, we have to get vaccinated.

@@lisahinton9682 there are side effects for some people, but that is common with all vaccines. It just means your body's immune system is working as it should. Today I read that the more side effects, the more immunity you have against the virus.
