Just fixed mine took me 2 months to diagnose and almost died on a 3 hrs trip yesterday before my mechanic spotted the issue. it was the Danm control arms and front driver wheel sensor. After installation lights went out didn’t even read code. Please do not ever ignore this traction light and abs light you can die. Especially on this makes of car.

Just did some digging, GM put out Special Coverage 15356 for the power steering sensor. However, since it is a special coverage and not a recall, the only way to see if it applies to your vehicle is by registering online. My car never had any symptoms until now and the coverage expired in 2021. I submitted a complaint to the NHTSA to make this into a recall so that people aren't paying out of pocket for something GM knows is faulty. If you have the same issue, please submit a complaint to the NHTSA. A quick google search will reveal the Special Coverage Instructions GM sent to all the dealerships 5 years ago.

Would love to file a complaint. Had issues with the 2010 Malibu in March 2021. They told me that it wasn't on recall. Didn't know if filing a complaint would matter after the fact.

Have it scanned at a parts store. An intermittent fault should show up as a memory or stored code. Could point you in the direction of the bad sensor. Thanks for watching!

I had it scanned at auto zone for my check engine light being on. Which they code pulled up my purge valve & a few other codes. They said the only one stood out was the Purge valve. Is there a better auto place you can maybe suggest that doesn't charge a lot to check for the code? You're welcome. It was my pleasure to watch such an informative video.

Did get stuck n my yard and tried getting out drive for a week and than starting going n safe mode shut car off. I have a sensor issue in my RF tire currently in my 2010 Malibu. The stearing wheel locked up on me and I had a hard time getting it to the side of the road. I let the sensor issue go for a few months because i didnt think to much on it. Now my car is down. Message said Service ESC. But with mine, it won't even start back up now.

@@JamesWilliams-ip1dp Malibu's are apparently notorious in seizing up mid ride. Either due to ECS malfunctions, Tire sensors going bad, and issues with the steering column locking up due to seizing. If it's a tire sensor issue that is causing the lock up, they can simply replace the sensor (somewhat flat tire can also cause the lock up). If it's an ECS issue, they would have to replace the ECS and possibly some damaged wire harnesses. If it's a steering column issue, simply replacing the steering column assembly should work.

The problem is that wheel speed sensor will rust, if you watched carefully after the bearing was removed, the reluctor separated and was still stuck in the knuckle. This is a common issue in the rust belt areas.

Somewhere in your car is hidden a lucky horseshoe. I recommend you keep an eye on your front wheel hubs (bearings), your exhaust camshaft position actualtor solenoid (on your engine), and your throttle body (throttle body valve position sensor). Common problems on these models up to now.

Hi so I have a 2012 Chevy Malibu. Runs pretty good, only issue I have is that my traction light comes on after using the car for a while. And it says service esc. When I turn the car back on next time I use it, the lights gone. I’ve tried using the code reader before but when I start my car the lights never on. So there are no codes to read. I see this is an old comment but yes the cruise control system relies on wheel speed sensors so if one of them is out you wont be able to use cruise. Hope this helps.

Most likely no. Pins worn on the connector or the wiring cracked & brittle. Bulb grease on the connector helps after you clean it up. Also clips can break off & not make a connection.

Out of curiosity, what were the torque values on the main bearing nut, and on the two caliper mounting bracket bolts which attached that bracket to the steering knuckle. my car shut off and did those dash codes, and then i got a jump and got home. then the car was dead when shut off. now the dashboard just goes completely nuts and powers off the car completely and wont start at all. i got a code check at auto zone before i went home and kept it running and it said abs. my problem is i cant get it to start to get it fixed and wondering if the ebcm is tthe problem. i think what happens is it gives you some power until it completely shuts down

so today i was leaving work in my 2011 malibu ..tire spun a little in the mud and then everything went to crap..reduced engine power, service traction service esc and check engine light ..hopefully mine is a similar fix ...i was able to run 50 mph in a 65 to get it home..now time to take it to have the codes scanned..

No, it's not. The hub assembly (which includes the wheel bearing) contains the magnetic strip that the wheel speed sensor uses to get the information. The magnetic part usually rusts out and breaks over time therefore prevent the WSS from doing it's job

Well i changed my wheel bearing and my light is on but before i changed them my light was off i did the same thing the only problem i had was the wheel bearings we're so rusted on the car that it was stuck to the rotars and the circle spot that they go in because the previous owner never changed anything on the car i know this video is old but if you or anyone in the comments that had the same or similar experience happen to see this can you give me any other suggestions on what it could be the wheel bearings are new and before i changed them the light was off no check engine light is on nether

Good job. I had the same dash lights come up on my '11 Buick Regal back in 2016. Diagnostic code was C0035. Replaced LF wheel hub (bearing) with the built-in speed sensor wire. I'm expecting to do the same with my RF wheel hub sometime soon. (I got a code C0040 once last May, so I won't be surprised.)

My brother has a 2009 Malibu. The codes showed RH bearing was causing the traction and ABS codes. Changed out the bearing twice. Same codes. When starting from stop or turning sharply the LH brake activates and the ABS and traction lights come on. The lights stay on for a few minutes and then go off?? Could this be a bad connection wire from the bearing to the computer? Help!

Sometimes the wires break inside their casing on the car side of the wiring harness. I’d bet that’s what’s going on with your brothers car.

I have a 2007 Cobalt SS. I only get the service traction light on cold damp days. Does it after you’re still & locks on. No codes in body control module. Restart the car, all clears & may not do it again for another week or two. Never does it while moving. Hubs were replaced several months ago. Can it be a loose connector on the wheel sensor? Then if so, why does it throw a light only after you’ve stopped?

Great video and way to teach your son at the same time! I have no idea how you got the hub off with a few taps after you got the axle nut off. I even rented a puller tool and mine is solid AF. Yes, I removed the three bolts. Going to have to pay a mechanic, but I gave it a shot thanks to your video. And where on earth did you find a 35mm socket? All the stores here had 32 then 36mm. Thankfully my 2010 LTZ was a 36mm.

my 09 Malibu has the same lights on and got a code for C0035 LF speed sensor. Replaced the hub but warning lights are still on, tried clearing the code but it just comes back on. Any idea what else it could be?

Sometimes the wiring harnesses on the car side will break internally. You can’t see it on a visual inspection. Usually happens where there’s a bend in the harness.

Low air or battery usually triggers a different code. Somebody took my sensors out of the system for the tires. Takes a high-end scanner to bypass them. Some places, this could be illegal.
