My purse was stolen while in Hawaii a couple years ago. I had no license. I was told to get to the airport early. They asked for a Costco Credit Card with photo as Costco is very careful to make sure you are who you say you are. Unfortunately it was stolen with my purse. They asked me if Ihad a prescription or a prescription bottle. I had both! We had gotten a prescription from our doctor ahead of time in case we got Covid while on our trip. I also had some pills in a prescription bottle. They searched my luggage and I was good to go. I will never travel without a prescription bottle again if I can help it!

We’ve been traveling with our passport, even for domestic travel, for a few years as we didn’t have the real id yet. Now that we have it, we’ve just continued to use our passport. We just renewed our passports online, and omg, it was fantastic. We had our new ones in less than 10 days. My husband and I carry a different brand of credit card, so even if one gets stolen the other person has one that hasn’t been compromised. I also have my phone on a lanyard, carabinered to my crossbody or on my wrist, as I always have it out taking photos.

My husband, bless his forgetful heart, forgot his wallet twice as we were flying. We live an hour away from the airport. The first time, in 2013 he was able to use a work badge that was in the glove box. While there he was able to get a birth certificate and with me vouching for him, several pictures of us together from different dates on both our phones he was allowed to fly. The last time was an international trip and luckily I had already packed his passport. We had to overnight a garage door opener fob to his daughter and she then overnighted his wallet. I now double check everything for both of us.

aha. another advantage to printing a boarding pass and putting it in the passport like a bookmark. then you're not tempted to have your thumb in there holding it open. and we did take the pictures of the bar code before the iceland trip.

I dare not leave my passport in the safe. It’s always in my money belt worn around my waist under my clothes. It’s also beside my pillow at night along with other important things. This is in case a fire breaks out in the hotel or where I’m staying which I can quickly take with me. It’s about accessibility and for identification if I get into an accident or cross the border. You never know.
@Galen-8648 күн бұрын
Yes! My husband and I were in our comfy cozy hotel bed one minute and freezing five minutes later sitting on a curb in the hotel parking lot! This was at 1.30 am because the fire alarms went off. I grabbed my purse and my husband his wallet but forgot the rental car key and we froze in our PJs instead of comfy in the rental car. Always be prepared with valuables, car keys and ID to leave in an emergency!

Two remarks: Enhanced Driver's Licenses Beware that in Europe, enhanced driver's licenses are not recognized in lieu of an official national ID card as these don't specify the nationality of the bolder. Citizens of most European countries hold national ID cards for boarding intra-Schengenland flights. Also, they are not recognized by banks or any other financial institutions either. They recognize only the US passport as an identifying document. Hotel Safes: Hotel safes in your room are not really that safe (unless they are the old fashion manually operated with a dial, and one knows how to reset and change the combination of numbers) as hotel managers nowadays hold a UNIVERSAL code which opens all safes in their hotel. Have a safe flight.

Hi Laurie, I have a question please for the next time your husband answers questions. I was sitting at Oslo Airport in Norway a couple of days ago, watching a small plane taxi very slowly towards the gate & the ground was clear of snow but there were wet patches & frosty patches. Do airplanes have winter tyres for slippery conditions? In Norway all cars change to winter tyres in autumn & summer tyres in spring. How do planes cope with slippery surfaces?

Hi Laurie… I recently started following you due to our upcoming flight /cruise to Alaska August 2025… My question is about carry on luggage. Have you tested to see if the Level 8 will pass the size restrictions on American Airlines for the carry on? I’m stressing over this due to not seeing any luggage that is 22/14/9… everything misses this by a little 🥺 Thank you for all your videos ❤
@TravelTipsbyLaurie8 күн бұрын

How does the UK travel authorization get embedded into your passport?
@phyllissmith11056 күн бұрын
That's just crazy. I thought airport security was just that: "Security" to make sure no one gets on an airplane that doesn't belong there. This sounds like a disaster just waiting to happen.

I take a photo of both the passport photo page, and enlarged photo of the scan bar. (Also front and back of Driver's License) then I EMAIL these photos to myself. I have the photos if I have my phone, fine. But if they get my purse, they get my phone. But I can access my email from the secondary department from TSA.
@njmaryannez8 күн бұрын
My phone goes into a coat or pants pocket, never a purse. I have actually sewn a seam pocket (sometimes with Velcro to keep it closed) into a dress or skirt to accommodate having my phone on my body.
