I have experienced instances where Clear hijacked the TSA Pre-Check line and forced everyone to use Clear if they wanted to get through the line quickly. That is super shady because you still need TSA Pre-Check in conjunction with Clear anyways to be able to breeze through security without taking off your shoes, belt, or taking out your laptop, etc. Clear just gives you another line to reach the TSA agent which is what most airports already have for TSA Pre-Check anyhow. It's an over-priced service to encourage airports to be less efficient. Think about it, if the lines are slow and a company comes around to speed things up for a few people willing to pay exorbitant amounts then they are going to turnaround and use that money to lobby that same airport to keep the other lines slow if not make them slower. This is some mafia level extortion.

Global Entry is $100 for a 5 year period, and also serves as a TSA Precheck which is available at all US airports. CLEAR is $189 a year and isn't available at all US airports. Clear is another money making scheme by a private outfit. I thought the point of TSA was to ensure passenger safety after 9/11. Pre 9/11 most security was private contract with no clear cut standard on security. We saw how that worked out.

CLEAR cuts you to the front of the TSA/TSA pre-check line. TSA Pre-check is a program from TSA where you can get them to do a background check on you and in return, if you pass, get a to use the Pre-Check line which usually lets you through without taking off your shoes, belt and no longer have to take your laptop out of your backpack (except in cases of "random" extra screening) AND the pre-check line is usually a lot shorter and faster than the normal line as well. In my experience at Las Vegas airport: TSA line only: 10-20 mins Precheck only: 5-10mins Clear + TSA line: 5-10 mins Clear + Precheck : less than 5mins

@@RandA1220Great summary. It is shocking to me that a private company is allowed to charge people for the privilege of cutting a public line. I’m waiting for a “TSA-VIP” at this point just to make it even more absurd. I love my Pre-Check, but it is still a line and no one cuts the line. The line is just shorter and I carry so many laptops/tablets/handhelds with me, removing them from my bag would be a nightmare.

Meanwhile, I'm still leaning heavily towards TSA Pre-Check. I always seem to be "randomly searched" even though I stopped wearing jewelry, I keep my keys and metals in the carryon and not on my person and I wear as little as I can to not set off the alarms. I'd have to pay extra but my peace of mind is more important.

It’s sad that we need pre-check for the pre-check line. In my experience the regular TSA line is 9/10 faster or nearly the same as pre check line. It’s kinda like ez-pass tolls, once everyone has one, the ez-pass “express” lane now causes traffic whereas the cash toll lane is empty. Also most times the regular TSA line is told to keep everything in your bag. The only differences at this point is taking off belts and shoes, and needing to use the body scanner. I’ll pass on paying $100s of dollars for the privilege of giving up my biometrics & marginal benefits.

I think there is alot of confusion on how Clear works. I have been to multiple airports and have both tsa-pre and clear. 1. You go to the Clear machine and get scanned. Once it verifies you, an agent takes you straight up to a TSA agent. This essentially only allows you to skip people waiting in the TSA and TSA precheck line. 2. The TSA agent STILL will ask for boarding pass and I.D. before I can go through security scanning. The only time I did not get asked for both is if the airport was integrated with the real I.D. system. At those times I only needed to show my I.D. and not boarding pass. Can someone please share their experiences? Is this not what normally happens?

@KevinTumlinson Жыл бұрын
Two incidents? Both caught by screening? Ridiculous. This is a non-event and more security theater. “One step from boarding an airplane, potentially.” No, you’re not. You have to present your boarding pass to get on a plane. If I had to guess, I’d say this is about money, and nothing else.

I have Clear and I have been asked to show my ID to the TSA agent on a couple of occasions. It adds little to no time to the process as I already have my passport out. Additionally it’s unfair to characterize Clear as being associated with the ammunition situation as Clear is not intended to substitute the TSA check, it is IDENTITY verification. Clear members still have to go through the TSA screening and TSA is responsible for screening for weapons and other unauthorized items.
