You must listen to the entire piece to get the full picture. It's a masterpiece quite different to any other symphony. Don't expect it to be uplifting, though... it's emotionally powerful yet emotionally draining. I find myself in tears after every listening.

Thank you for introducing me to this wonderful conductor. The last time I heard the Pathétique, Lionel Bringuier hadn’t even been born! I appreciate his interpretation - calm and composed. In the 1970s, when we studied these works in school music classes, conductors often tended to exaggerate the drama of late Romantic pieces like this one. Bringuier, by contrast, kept the movements cohesive without leaning into over-dramatization.

i could watch that blonde flute player play all day, using her body movements, and facial expressions, very dramatic, and lets face it, she's a beautiful gal. I think I'm in love....😂

A fantastic live performance by Andrea Bocelli and Heather Headley is when the sing "Vivo per Lei" in Tuscany. Not only was their performance incredible, the outdoor scenery providing the backdrop was absolutely stunning. Worth checking out, regardless of one's musical tastes. It literally is what turned me on to his music.

@SaeedReacts. now that I think of it, "Dare to Live", live at the same location as the setting, with Laura Pausini is just good. Keep up the good work!

As you can see par views and comments/likes...Classical music hasn't gotten it's due in the past 35 years or so and it's such a shame. Young people are such "squares". I grew up in the mid 60's and 70's it was common on "underground radio" along with Hendrix, Cream, The Doors and The Beatles/Stones on WNEW, WABC aka WPLJ, N.Y.C. to play some Classical and Jazz. I heard John Coltrane and Charlie Parker back to back one late night in 1969 when I was 13...explosive. Vivaldi "The Four Seasons" is a good place to go next. Very popular and used often in film...pick a season or visit all 4😎

When I (admittedly infrequently) listen to this - named by many as Tchaikovsky's greatest work (and that's really saying something, since he wrote so very many great works), I have to hide the razor blades. "Pathétique" is translated from the French as "pathetic," but not in the modern everyday sense of useless, or pitiful, or "what the hell do you think you are doing !?" No, pathetic in the sense of pathos, of utter sadness, of not knowing where to turn. The maestro was a homosexual in über traditional Russia, living under the tsars, a country imbued with the sense that they comprised the 3rd Rome (after the Pope's ineffectual (to their minds) 1st Rome, and the Muslim-conquered 2nd Rome, i.e., Constantinople), and strict "Christian" values could - and would be - upheld only by the successor to the two previous iterations of Christian moral teachings. Poor Pyotr had nowhere to turn. He was in a parlous, pathetic environment. For all that, he was nonetheless able to write that perennial Christmas favorite The Nutcracker ballet; Swan Lake, the epitome of classical ballet; Sleeping Beauty; his rousing 5th Symphony, Capriccio Italien, the dark and foreboding Francesca da Rimini, his inimitable First Piano Concerto, and so very many other great works. But he was not a happy man. - an edited footnote: he died (yes, suicide) just a month after the premier of the 6th. The pathos is not for interpretation: it is an exposition of his own inner turmoil.

Yes, I don't know if this is definitive, but one account says that he was accused in a letter of homosexuality and brought before a tribunal who told him the honourable thing would be to commit suicide. He took arsenic but the story was put about that he had drunk infected water. Whatever, their attitude amounted to cultural vandalism. Even sadder, I know that while Russia can't deny his genius, their are some who try to deny his homosexuality. I know that to be true as I got embroiled online with a Russian telling me that I was just falling for western propaganda. Such an attitude devalues a great man and reveals that the Russian Orthodox church has re-established its hold on the nation.

Retired Music Teacher here: Good for you taking on the challenge of "classical music." There's no computer, AI program or auto tune in the entire world that can replace human beings playing orchestra music with such expertise, precision, skill, interpretation, dedication and expressive feeling as this. And for me, it makes heavy metal, hip hop and rap, sound like absolute noise and garbage. The problem with the idea of the world should be an orchestra is the human element also unfortunately...Soon several individuals would be fighting over what pieces to play, who should be the conductor, and who is allowed into the orchestra and who is allowed to go to the concerts. ....soon there would be no audience....😂the ticket prices would sky rocket in a criminal scam to cheat people out as much money as they can with ticket prices...oh, wait...they already are actually doing that today....musical ignorance may be bliss for some, but robs the listener of their human soul and intellectual capacity.

The human element indeed. You make some great points there. Would actually be a great idea for a short story 😄. It would work at first, but musical Utopia would fall apart pretty quickly 😅
