I finished high school back in 2008. Since then, I've never been near any mathematics books. I never liked mathematics at all but now that I came to America and I want to go back to school, I'm told to study for TSI. This is how I've bounced to this video. I’ve never been able to really understand math because I grew up being a military kid , but with your videos I actually grasped the concept and I now found it so easy to understand! I'm in agreement with all the other comments. I love how you break these problems down in a way that's not confusing. I haven't been in school since 1999 😮. I'm looking to go back to school but it's required to take this test first. I'm hoping to pass on the first try, even if I do not, your videos have really helped me. Thank you! I struggle bad with math, College Algebra is one class that I have put off for years. But before I can take it, the TSI test is required. I would need to watch your videos frequently to understand the formulas, but you explained this very well. I'll be tuning in for more of your teachings.

to save yourself some math on #1 when you have -7=2t, you could multiply both sides by 3, which would give you -21=6t

Good question! We didn't use the butterfly method because we were multiplying fractions 6/1 x -7/2- so you just multiply the numerators, then multiply the denominators. You only use the butterfly method when two fractions are set equal to one another and you're trying to find a missing value, usually an x.

I have a question about proportions. In question 2 it mentions x and y being proportional so you showed it as y over x. Do I need to solve the problem in that order or is it okay if I write x over y? Does it matter which unit goes on top, and if yes, how do I know where to put each unit in the fraction? Btw I've always found cross multiplying way easier than the second method, but thanks for explaining both methods!

How do we decide/know when to use the butterfly method or just multiplying top and bottom numbers like the first example?

the equal sign indicates the use of the butterfly method, while regularly multiplying fractions will have the multiply symbol in between them :)

I am attempting my test again tomorrow and I am very nervous. This is my 4th time taking this test and I just hope I can get high enough to pass it. I am scared to take it because I am worried I will fail it again. My goal is to not take remedial math class so I can continue my degree. I have 5 classes left till I graduate I can not take any classes till I take college algerbra. I am so nervous about tomorrow that I will miss it again. I have made a 921, 911 and a 931. Good question! The 3 was positive. In order to move it to the other side, I had to do the opposite which was subtract. That's why I minused 3 from both sides.

For me te math tsi gets hard when asking about graphs or answers that are “(6,-5)(7,6)”. Just an example and finding length or width in shapes

I'm attempting to get into a community college. The name of the college is Tarrant County Community College here in Fort Worth Texas. The placement exam is called the TSI exam. Is a TSI exam what they call a placement exam for a community college? Or Is this exam specific for the community college I named above? I am just trying to determine how specific your videos are to this particular entrance exam I need to take for this specific community college. Great explanations by the way. Thank you!
