I totally understand getting quality part but a timing chain kit that is pushing $900 seem a little bit crazy to me. I can get a whole car for that. I know this is an old video but this is a prevalent thing for me with my new (to me) 2013 GLI. I recently found out that I have an extended warranty for the timing chain that’s good for another 50k! Which is great!!! BUT, I do want to get an APR Stage 1 tune for it, will that void my timing chain warranty?? Thank you!!!
@donny45992 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the Video. Question, do have to remove the spark plugs to rotate the engine when changing the timing chain, or is this just to make it easier with no compression? Also, would I need to have the car in Neutral to rotate?

Did VW ever fix the timing chain tensioner issue on the TSI engine. If so, what model year was the fix installed on?
@michaelt.48067 жыл бұрын
Also be ware of the little O-ring on the end of the oil-filter holder, it's there to drain the oil to the pan when changing the filter. If the O-ring is not seated correctly, damaged or missing, the engine wil start with a few seconds of chain slap on startup...also not good for the tensioner, it gets hammered on startup and could come apart. And always buy Quality parts from a trusted seller like Deutsche Auto Parts.

Hey man big fan of the channel. I have a quick question, I have a 2013 CC 2l TSI I got my oil changed yesterday, drove home and now my car won't start, plugged in OBD2 and fault code p3054, cleared it and wouldn't start. Tried to turn crankshaft with socket and no movement so I presume the timing jumped. Would the oil change have anything to do with that?

Great video as always. I have a 2013 Tiguan with 2nd gen AE888. Can i install this last version of the tensioner? should i change the chain to? Sad to say that in my country the replacement kit price is 1100 US Dolars, more sad is that i paid 25k for my used tiguan, so i just want to be sure to get the lastest version that is compatibly with my engine. it has 45000 miles on it. So I have a 2014 Jetta 1.8t and I'm having an issue I feel could be the TCT but I'm not sure and this car has been a big purchase and sunk almost all my money into and 2 weeks after buying it I turned a corner and got this weird grindy/clicking it only happens when I turn a corner faster than normal and give a little gas the noise can start and itll only last from 2-15 seconds and once it happened when I was at a stoplight but i was also driving it the "sports" gear so my buddy that's a mechanic believes it is most likely the timing chain or atleast the tensioner he said the load of turning it what's causing the noise or the chain tensioner not working properly but I'm at 125k miles so figured if I changed the TCT might as well do the timing chain too but idk if this is the problem were going to do more work and test tomorrow 3/21/20 but I'm terrified of what it could be

Hey guys, quick question hopefully you can help on. I tuned my 2011 Mk6 Dsg GTI with the uni stage 1 +tune and dsg tune about 3 months ago. Now when driving, gears 1 3 and 5 clunk on downshift and while driving yesterday in 6th gear, car suddenly went into neutral and displayed a service wrench but then went back to normal. No codes or cel. Any idea what it could be?

Hi My car is showing error p3008. Initially the error code p000A appeared. I changed camshaft sensor then code p3008 came up. Most of the people are saying that timing chain needs to replace. It was fine , I just changed water pump because it was leaking, and new drive belts, with engine oil service , dsg service & spark plugs. After all this work when I started my car a code p000A appeared, then changed camshaft sensor, camshaft adjuster valve, after 5 minutes a new code p3008 came up, car starts but idle rough. When press acceleration it vibrates very heavily. What do you think might be the problem?

@waelal-zubieri53587 жыл бұрын
For the comments, the timing chain tensioner failure only affects 2.0 TSI engines that were made before 2013. So if your car was made in the 2013, you are fine. I am not talking about model year, the manufacturer date. Also all GEN 3 engines of the 2.0 TSI engine are not affected by this problem. That includes the 1.8 TSI and the 2.0 TSI in the Jetta GLI after that was released in 2014.

@s2kay7507 жыл бұрын
Jeff Eppenger I think the tensioners were updated for manufacturing after Sept 2012, so it would pay to check the type of tensioner by viewing through the inspection hole. I don’t believe vw update the tensioners as a recall (though they should!).
@Micp29126 жыл бұрын
Ok just so people are clear this does NOT just effect before 2013 engines. I have a 2014 GLI that just bent the valves with only 80k on it. Many other guys on the forums with +13 cars having this problem too. Of coarse VW doesn't want to help.

The Chinese tensioners probably come in as unauthorized gray market, but they indeed have the latest revisions and they are indeed from China (SAIC). A major parts wholesaler that specializes in Euro parts imports them and the newest revisions are identical to the dealer parts you can buy in the US except for the China marking.
@Deutscheautoparts7 жыл бұрын
+Mike A. It certainly is not the same as this one failed prematurely, which is not something we have ever seen on the newest revision.
@jonrandall54905 жыл бұрын
I'd be willing to bet the Germans had these tensioners made in China to begin with.... that's the whole problem. Then Audi and VW begged China to make them better. That's your revisions. I'd be willing to bet ain't none of them worth crap.
@charleshines57002 ай бұрын
The worst thing is that sadly some people buy those parts and it undercuts you and you could have sold them a part that wouldn't destroy their engine. It can't be preached enough to stay away from those scam artists and realize you get what you pay for. I wouldn't feel good about using any part from that kit. With a cheap kit like that you may get guides that break easily and that will also ruin your day!

I would like to this so. I'm not a lawyer nor do i know much of anything towards law, but what they pointed out in the ebay description was stating that it OE quaility part not OEM or genuine. I feel like it's trying to dodge the fact that it's not tested yet it's the same design / function than the OEM. I think the one thing that I think will get them is if it's the same part as listed in the beginning, that stats CHINA in the then they list made in GERMANY which they did at 5:11 bottom left corner. Which may be a cause for deeper investigation?

Some of us that have been through this VW timing chain issue multiple times would rather buy Chinese made than give VW another cent for a problem of their making. They've had more than 10 years to solve these problems and they never quite do, with revisions 'STILL' failing. They also have moved from one generation of engine and capacity increase and still have timing chain and tensioner failures on newer engines. Phuck!! VW and their genuine shite.

Honestly, it is a bit crazy to knock the knock-offs when Audi / VW themselves didn't make a good part to begin with. The fault here is clearly the OE parts supplied in these dumb cars! Sure, Audi or DAP can claim the revisions are better, but shall we trust the dumbo's that created the crap ones to begin with? They are probably the same goof balls making the revisions as the junk ones that the Audi's came with to begin with!!! Who can trust these yo-yo's to make a better revision??? Shame on you, VW and Audi for producing or using sorry tensioners which fail, and many of them fail before even 70,000 miles, and then ruin the engines in these cars. People who buy Chevy's and Fords are starting to look smarter and smarter ! German engineering has gone right down the tubes ! Try buying a used engine for an Audi A4 ! They fail at such a high rate, and are in such a huge demand, that used engines cost more than these stupid cars are worth. My next car will be a Ford or a Chevy. Audi's, BMW and Mercedes Benz all suck !

It is worse than Chinese, it is a dangerous Chinese knockoff! I pray that Volkswagen sued the people making that back to the stoneages!!! Also this is a good lesson to be really careful where you get the parts. Sure you will pay a lot more from a reputable source but at least then the parts won't cause a major problem unless there is no updated design.
