Was adding Jeff Skinner in free agency a good move for the Oilers at his $3m cap?

If he plays top line, he'll score 40+ goals with McDavid. Hymans totals will drop a bit but adding a pure scorer like Skinner is something McDavid has never had.

Excited to see Skinner on this team. The Oilers did a good job adding interesting players without spending a lot on long deals.

Great deal for Oilers. Besides Hyman and occasionally Kane, they haven't had a high end finisher to pair with the playmaking of 97 and 29. And Skinner's lack of playoff experience isn't an issue with the overall experience level of the Oilers room at this point. I expect Skinner will bring enthusiasm and lots of goals

Habs fan here, this was a huge signing for the Oilers. He's going to help you greatly in the playoffs, might be what you need to get over the hump.

Veteran experience and depth never hurts a team. The oldest and deepest Oilers team in probably 20 years and it took them two goals from the Cup. The real question is do they do the boring thing (J. Skinner, S. Skinner) OR do they give Jeff "Skinner" and Stuart gets "Sssssskinner". The copper(head) in their logo throws me off sometimes.
@Hartwell104 ай бұрын
Because one of them is a goalie I’m not sure they will do J.Skinner 🤔. I wonder if they will now

I hope we don’t but I do think this Oilers team will win the President’s Trophy. There is no better team than them as of right now. I don’t want the PT due to the curse associated with it in the playoffs.

I didn’t love arvidsson deal but the skinner pick up pretty much nullifies any negative that came with the former. Can’t wait to see what we will see out of a guy like Jeff who’s played 1000+ in his first run in the post season
@marknelson43904 ай бұрын
I think if Arvidsson can stay healthy he'll be a great addition. That's a big IF though.

Minimum 60 pts next year
@nolankuffner35734 ай бұрын
Minimum? Depends on who he plays with. Guy's extremely inconsistent. Had a great rookie year, has had one 40 goal season. And given time by both Buffalo and Carolina to show he was that guy. Sometimes, sometimes not. I don't see him coming close to what Hyman did, and I don't see him playing anywhere close to the minutes he had in Buffalo either. He's not a top line player for them, and he won't always be a second line guy either. Bouncing between the second and third seems appropriate.
@Chromedragon794 ай бұрын
He's never been an overly defensive guy, so having him out there with a more responsible forward like Nuge might be a good fit. Nuge-Drai-Skinner sounds good to me. Following up Arvidsson-McDavid-Hyman for a serious 1A/1B punch.

This will allow RNH to center the 3rd line I hope.

Who made this deal come together if they don't have a GM? And did he call Ryan Nuge, Daniel? Wasn't sure what that cut was..
@nello15914 ай бұрын
Jeff Jackson is standing in and making these deals as the interim GM. And the name that popped up is the name of a reporter that is on the call, similar name to Nuge.
@nishd71614 ай бұрын
It's just reporter Daniel Nugent-Bowman on the conference call. Nothing to do with RNH.

@Kjell777Iverson4 ай бұрын
No word on if he will require surgery for his injury. If he does, the Oilers will LTIR him until he's healthy (or likely pull a vegas). Rumor is he doesn't want to waive his NMC for a trade, so if the Oilers have to move players out to become cap compliant it's probably Mcleod / Ceci.
