It’s so sad. Nhl needs to grow! Best sport ! (German guy speaking here.. with two signed jerseys. Leon and Jimmy stu!)
@joeidaho593811 ай бұрын
Truth is...the sport needs to grow in Canada itself, where it is in huge decline....to a large extent because of the cost of participation. That's not gonna change anytime soon, to be honest. Hockey is not just a spectator sport. Canadians of my generation grew up playing hockey almost 24/7, in one form or another. That changed...and everything changed as a result. If less and less people are playing the sport, it's a no-brainer that interest will be lacking or non-existent. There is really no good reason why Germans should be that interested in the sport. It's not really accessible to them. Even here in Toronto, hockey is a spectator sport for the rich, on the whole....and it was not that way when I was a kid.

Ice Hockey doesn't really have the same popularity in Germany as it does in Canada or Sweden for example. Sure, it's a big market but it's not a "cultural sport" in Germany. I come from Örnsköldsvik in Sweden, the same city as Peter Forsberg, Markus Näslund, Niklas Sundström, Tobias Enström, The Sedin twins, Victor Hedman and Linus Ullmark. Mats Zucarello also came to The NHL after playing with our team for a few years. If you would do the exact same thing that you did in this clip but in Örnsköldsvik then every single person would recognize most of the names that i mentioned. Ice Hockey is huge in this city.

To be fair football in Germany is the sport. When you have Franz Beckenbauer, Miroslav Klose,Jurgen Klinssman, Mesut Ozil, Thomas Muller and Germany's best hockey players before Leon were Marco Sturm and Olaf Kolzig who was actually born in South Africa it's tough to market. In Czechia hockey is the number one sport because of Russian influence. It's not a marketing issue it's an issue that dates back to the cold war
