My negotiation strategy would be to threaten a trade of the AAV isn’t under 10 million. That is a perfectly fair contract for both sides. If Marner wants to entertain offer sheets then let him go if 4 first rounders are the return (10.5+). He needs to know that he isn’t untouchable.

I would have said for starters no one is making more than John tavares. He was a "generational player" hitting UFA. He actually took a discount to come here. I would slap a C on his chest. Then tell Matthew's you are getting 10.5 for 8 years. Even at 11 mill that 5 years killed us. I do think marner deserves 9.5 for another 8 year deal. And nylander. If you were going to wait until the last day then sign him to what you wanted. 6.5 for seven. They were all RFA. They could have sat them. Take a look at his previous teams on the isles, the management and coaching was poor, and they lacked talent, and you said he didn't win a thing? In 2016 he went god mode and upset the no.1 seed in the Atlantic the Florida Panthers. Back then they were a great team, they still lost to the Lightning in 5 but an upset is certainly a win in my book, judging by the team he had that year.
