D 17 Well, you are right, I think Marner’s market value is around the 8.5-9.5 million dollar range realistically, but the thing is, lots of players this summer are demanding huge salaries. For example, Boeser wants 10 million per year at 8 years and Laine wants 15 million per year at 8 years. Players who aren’t as good as Mitch are demanding such high amounts, therefore we should not be surprised Marner wants the absolute maximum as well.

Not that I disagree with all of these comparisons but it sure seems that marner is constantly under appreciated. He was the best player on the leafs last season, hes a player that drove that Tavares line all season and ofcourse tavares helps him a ton aswell but as a person who watched that line all 82 games there is no doubt that marner drove it all season long. People also seem to not notice that hes the best 2way forward on the team, his defensive play this season atleast deserved a selki nomination and I can definetly see heart and selki trophy nominations in his future. As much as I dont think he deserves the same money as Matthew's there is no question that so far he is the most consistent, hard working and constantly improving player on the team and aside from kucherov and scheiffele I take him over any of the players they mentioned any day of the week.

These guys conceded all those points you've made about Marner. Have you seen Point play for an entire season?
@avekrso2855 жыл бұрын
@@gordonbgraham yeah I admittedly dont watch every Tampa game but I know and have seen what point did last year and I agree that it's very close and hes a guy that I shouldn't have left out but hes put up less points than marner on an even richer offensive team , granted both play the pk and are very good two way players but point did not look godly until this season even thought the prior was also really good at 66 points but from the beginning of marners career you saw the elite playmaking ability that maybe 5 players in the entire league have ontop of everything else he does. So yeah it's very very close and obviously points a third round pick but I still think I take marner considering it's very very close I just think marners ceiling in terms of special skill is just a bit higher, I think that if people are calling point the next Bergeron which is a bit much if you ask me then I'd say marner is comparable (if not potentially even better) to that of datsyuk.
@mikestevens35825 жыл бұрын
@@avekrso285 I agree with most of what you said, but I disagree with the marner/datsyuk comparison. datsyuk>marner hands down.
@avekrso2855 жыл бұрын
@@mikestevens3582 I mean I think the comparison is very accurate based on their size, the fact that both are amazing 2 way wings while having the ability to step into center, both are shifty and really offensively creative and highly skilled players. I mean they even call mitch the magician ;) I think you will agree more and more as marners career goes on

I get that centermen probably plays the most vital role in the offence of a team but give me a break. How often do you see a winger with that much playmaking ability instead of just being a sniper being fed pucks? Yes there are a lot of other wingers that put up similar numbers, if not more, and finish plays more but that will happen for marner as we see him grow.

Elias Pettersson has proven to be a superstar before he even entered the NHL. No way you compare a winger in Marner to him. The only players worth comparing to E.Pettersson is Gretzky(playing style) and Mcdavid/Matthews in terms of stats he can put up.

tavares stands there and gets tap ins from marner. it's marner's line and he's been the best player on the team for 2 years. the guy deserves 11M but we live in a bullshit world where "wingers" aren't allowed more than 9M apparently. how many other teams are getting rid of their best player this summer? the raptors? at least it's not really a choice for them.

Marner did a disappearing act against the Bruins. Playoffs is a different beast and Marner is not built for it. He is too small. Chara had him fearing for his life every shift. Whatever they pay him, he is not worth it.

If Leafs trade Marner to Flames, Tkachuk could center Matthews and Nylander. Tavares would center Kapanen and Mangipane. Leafs should see if Tkachuk is available. What is Tkachuk asking it can't be more than Marner. Flames have $7.7 million cap space. Flames could send Bennet also to Leafs his salary $2.5 million. Flames could also send Mangipane to Leafs. This leaves Flames with over $10.2 million for Marner plus signing bonus. Leafs send Sandin with another prospect. Tkachuk signs with Leafs for 6 years $9 million.

a vast majority of these comparisons, it's rarely Marner for me.. I understand these guys comparing regular season goals, points, etc.. For me, it's all about playoffs.. even the comparables are close but look at the playoffs.. you build your team for playoff success and Marner isn't carrying this team or his line in the post season... None of the Leafs core is doing much in the playoffs but I would far rather have lots of the comparibles over Marner..
