Its been great watching these two compete over the years. I am a Sid fan and believe he is "more special" due to his two way game, but even more special are his championships and gold medals. After all, winning is the name of the game.

Wow. Surprised you picked ovi. He's right under crosby in my opinion but I don't know how these were not mentioned. Sid, 4 finals and 3 stanley cups, junior gold, world cup gold, and of course....the golden goal in the 2010 Olympics. At the end of the day the overall team achievements triumphs.

No kidding! It's exactly where my mind went was all the championships that Crosby has won compared to Ovechkin. 3 Stanley cups and the Golden goal in Canada for Olympic gold medal ends the conversation in my books!

Unpopular opinion: I think both will end on a deep run, First with Ovi then the 3 stars in Pitt (Geno, Sid, Tanger) I’ve felt this strongly since the 21 season where guys like Carey Price, Patrice Bergeron, Mark Stone…all these Legends would go out on a high note before the League is handed over to Mcdavid & Matthews ect…

Three Stanley cups, and an Olympic gold medal, of which Sidney Crosby scored the winning goal in overtime in Canada with the weight of an entire country on his shoulders. I don't need much time to think about this it's Crosby to me all day!

It's kind of a stupid argument. But I guess Ovi if he breaks Gretzky's goal record. He would be talked about. Sid had been a rock solid player who hasn't declined at all. Both great in their own right, but Ovi purely by the nearly unbreakable record he is moving toward.

Bryan Hayes was the only one who answered the first question correctly. "WHOSE CAREER WILL HAVE BEEN MORE SPECIAL?" Dave Poulin made an argument for why he believes that Sydney Crosby is an all-around better hockey player than Alex Ovechkin. Bryan Hayes made an argument for why Alex Ovechkin will have the more special career. As great as Sid is in both what he's achieved individually and for his team, it doesn't trump the fact that Ovi will most likely surpass Wayne Gretzky in ALL-TIME REGULAR SEASON GOALS (894). It's a record that the majority of hockey fans believed that'll NEVER be beaten. How many people laughed and called Ovi's fans crazy when they said that he's going to pass Gretzky's 894 regular season goals? As recent as a few years ago, I've come across comments of people mocking those who said that Ovi is the greatest goal scorer and will beat Gretzky's record. So at the end of the day, Ovi's career will be significantly more special because he will be regarded as the greatest goal scorer with the most career regular season goals scored of all-time! This cannot be argued! You can look at it in the following way. Will future NHL fans, 20, 50, 100 years from now, know about Ovi and/or Crosby? Currently, Crosby is 29th All-Time in Goals (551, 16th All-Time in Assists (952), & 15th All-Time in Points (1,503) in his 1,191 Games Played in 18 Seasons. His Goals Per Game Avg is 0.46%, Assist Per Game Avg is 0.80%, Points Per Game Avg is 1.26%, and his Games Play Per Season Avg is 66. If he retires at 38, playing 20 Seasons, then that could add 132 more Games Played, totalling 1,323 Career Games Played. He'll probably score 60 Goals, totalling 611 Career Goals. He'll probably get 105 Assists, totalling 1,057 Career Assists. That'll come out to 165 Points, totalling 1,668 Career Points. Assuming he retires after his 20th Season and he puts up the Goals, Assists, and Points based on his Career Avg, then that'll get him ranked 18th All-Time in Career Regular Season Goals, 10th All-Time in Career Regular Season Assists, and 9th All-Time in Career Regular Season Points. While those stats are incredible and incredibly difficult to achieve, it still won't hold the same weight as being ranked #1 All-Time in Career Regular Season Goals! That's why Ovi's career will be more special!

That's not how the records are kept. You compare things that are the same which is regular seasons otherwise you are comparing 82 games players with potentially 110 games players based on the quality of their teams not based on the players themselves. That's why regular seasons and playoffs records are separated.
@fredbmurphy5 ай бұрын
@jeanjacques9365 if you want to get technical about it then, if Ovenchin doesn't do it in 20 seasons, it won't mean as much. Gretzky played 20 seasons.
@jeanjacques93655 ай бұрын
@@fredbmurphy no because its career goals its acceptable to compare different lenght career because its a testament to ones ability to stay healthy and relevant longer while playing the same amount of games each year
@fredbmurphy5 ай бұрын
@jeanjacques9365 you can still go to regular season games played, then you are out of excuses; Ovi must get something like another 60 or 70 goals (I can't recall his mark at the moment) in 123 more games. It will be close. But if he doesn't do it, that will not make him the greatest goal scorer of all time, only the one with the most goals, if longevity allows it.
@jeanjacques93655 ай бұрын
@@fredbmurphy You got it all wrong... Gretzky doesn't have the most goal per game average either if that's the metric you are trying to use and Ovi beats him in that metric too. Neither of them is the greatest goal scorer in that sense the record is about the most scored goal in NHL. You are the one trying to make excuses and deny Ovi the record that everyone understands but you.
@user-yg1dg6xm2g7 ай бұрын
What league-wide records does Crosby hold? If Ovechkin surpasses Gretzky's goal-scoring record, his career will be more memorable. Indeed, if Ovechkin breaks the all-time goal-scoring record, he will be a topic of conversation in the hockey world for years to come.
@seanweatherson5347 ай бұрын
Crosby is on pace to have the most point per game seasons in a career you doughnut. Look at Crosby’s point totals compared to Ovechkin’s, his all around game defensively and offensively, his international gold medals in the olympics twice, the World Cup in 2016, the world juniors, and of course his 3 Stanley cups, which also might increase before he’s done. This is no contest.
@user-yg1dg6xm2g7 ай бұрын
@@seanweatherson534 It is unlikely that people will remember Crosby's "all-around game defensively and offensively" 20 years from now. What will matter most are the point totals, and Crosby is unlikely to crack the top 3 in points. On the other hand, Ovechkin, with the designation of being the #1 goal scorer in history, will have his name mentioned time and time again.
@user-yg1dg6xm2g7 ай бұрын
@@seanweatherson534 A title like "Most Point-Per-Game Seasons" would certainly be impressive, but it will not hold as much weight as "The Greatest Goal Scorer of All Time." Ovechkin's goal-scoring prowess has the potential to make his name more memorable in the long run.
@seanweatherson5347 ай бұрын
@@user-yg1dg6xm2gThere should be a distinction between “greatest goal scorer of all time” and “scored the most goals in NHL history”, because Gretzky will have completed the feat in far fewer games than Ovechkin did. Therefore, while Ovechkin is all but guaranteed to surpass Gretzky’s total, in my opinion he is not the greatest goal scorer of all time.
@user-yg1dg6xm2g7 ай бұрын
