Dragon Ball GT Couldn’t Have Worse Problems

I think the biggest problem with GT is it didn't have a manga when it was created. When DB, DBZ, and even DBS was created they already had manga. It sorted acted like a script and outline to the show. GT didn't have those. Toriyama was hit up after DBZ ended and was requested to make a follow up show. That being said, GT was Toriyama attempt at just winging it. It doesn't seem important, but that is a crucial fact. Dragon Ball and DBZ manga acted like an outline of a story he been planning out for a while. Any good story writer or content writer knows that the outline is a big help. There is a manga set for it now, but those were published after the show ended. It explains why the show doesn't have as big of an impact or make a good lasting impression like the other shows in the franchise. It's because of this I have love and respect for GT, but can also admit it's not the best. Don't get me wrong, it's still my favorite cause it's the one I grew up watching on TV.

As someone who watched GT as a kid and rewatched the series just over a year ago, I can say that it honestly isn’t that. Or at least it’s not as bad as some people like to say it is. I think the majority of people that dunk on GT are those that either haven’t seen it or just prefer Super. I think it had some very questionable decisions writing wise and the first arc of the show is definitely its weakest imo. I really do think the first arc is a big reason why some people hate GT. It’s really not the best opener for a series following up after the Buu saga. But the show definitely redeems itself when Baby is introduced. He’s one of my all time favourite villains. Awesome concept, amazing design, linking back to old Dragon Ball Z with the idea of the tuffles. Baby is just cool imo. And do I even need to mention SSJ4. Idk I think anyone that hasn’t watched GT but loves Dragon Ball should at the very least give it a chance. Like I’m not gonna go over every reason why I personally enjoy it but like I said I don’t think it deserves hate. At the end of the day it still feels like a love letter to both Z and OG dragon ball. Even if that love letter is a bit messy at times haha! Edit: GT Pan was hella annoying tho I can’t lie

He has been very consistent wirth GT not being canon. When asked he basically said "the fans can choose" making it automatically non canon as canon in DB has always been "official to the official continuity." In 2018 Shueshia and bird studios (who was being run by Toriyama) did an entire canon tour to discuss what is canon (the first time they ever used the word). The manga (volumes 1-42), Jacos manga, DB minus, FnF movie and DBS Broly movie are all canon. That's it and the 2 movies only because they didn't have full manga adaptions. No anime, no GT, no movies. GT is not and has never been canon. We KNOW what the actual canon is, casuals just aren't up for doing some actual research.

I disagree with the last take, GT's ending is tied a lot to what happened in GT. Goku's ascension works because its thematically appropriate, he was undeservingly getting punished by the karma of the dragon balls and even lost his life to it, making the universal spirit bomb all the more cathartic. Goku visiting Hell to properly thank Piccolo makes us recall his two selfless decisions in GT (remain dead forever and abandon heaven to get Goku out when he was trapped). Pan treasuring Goku's gi and rushing at the sight of him in the tournament crowd doesn't feel the same without knowing all the times he saved her and the adventures they went through.

What am I talking about? In the Super 17 arc because of the chaos that Dr. Gero and Miu caused in hell it caused characters who were dead to not have halo's anymore. So when we fast forward to the fight with Omega Shenron and Goku is powering the spirit bomb. You remember when Goku suddenly was capable of tanking Omega Shenron's attack in weakened based? Yeah, he ACTUALLY died in that scene but since the process of death was messed up cuz of what happened in the Super 17 arc, Goku had no halo. So he never tanked the attacks, he DIED! But he was still able to keep it pushing until the end and throw the spirit bomb at Omega Shenron. It's also why Pan found Goku's clothes, even though we just saw him peace out with the Dragon. It's cuz he was dead. Is there something that doesn't make any sense in this theory? Well it's GT, a whole lot of it didn't make any sense lol. Still to me... That makes the ending so much more impactful.

After rewatching them again, I like how everyone just agrees to collectively ignore the black star dragonballs arc, Baby Saga is a good concept, but has major pacing issues on top of all of its other writing/story issues. It’s the opposite of the shadow dragons arc where it starts off alright and then drags out the ending for way too long. Shadow dragons is just boring until Nova where the pace actually feels tolerable. We can just ignore super 17.

The S#17 saga brings back old villains to die again and I actually love it. That is the fun of the saga in my opinion, I just wish they made every battle against a former villain/s more fun. It felt too rushed. I get that they wanted to show how the Z fighters advanced so much that past nightmare villains are a joke now, but it could've had more juice. At least Raditz remained alive in the end of it. S#17 himself is an idiotic character I wish never existed. The best thing about the Shadow Dragons arc besides the concept are Eis and Nouva. Nouva is my favorite Dragon.

Start to say Daima correctly Sage please. Dai like you want someone to die sounds the same and Ma like in mama. The Black Star DB saga introduces an excellent concept. The Earth is at stake and you need to go to space in order to prevent it's destruction. That is something actually good. Not a fan of the designs for the planets or the choice of team going to space. However it starts slow on purpose so they can have world building. The Baby arc is absolute gold, Baby himself is for me the 2nd best villain in the whole franchise like I said in the previous video.

I grew up watching DBZKai on nicktoons. Then they jumped to GT. I watched the first episode then I hated it. Fast forward to last year I decided to rewatch DBZ from the beginning and start from there. I watched GT and became a fan. GT has ALOT of problems and I specifically skipped over the black star saga and went into the baby saga. Super 17 was EXTREMELY BORING. Hated every second minus krillin getting boomed into the otherworld. 18 was the only redeeming thing about tht arc. Shadow dragons was an amazing concept, especially bc it was hinted at in the buu saga tht misuse of the dragon balls have consequences. It’s definitely not the best and it’s definitely like a 7/10 only bc of the baby saga and the use and spotlight of OTHER characters instead of just Goku and vegeta like in super

Whats funny is that they kind of tell on themselves with their behavior because if they really thought that thing they liked was good then there wouldn't be a need for all the deflecting and concessions because the show should be able to speak for itself and stand on its on merits. DragonBall daima is very enjoyable for me! Especially getting my nephew's and nieces into it. They can finally see why I feel in love with DragonBall from the start.
