Insanely the creepiest the game devs have done so far. The way the ghost girl said, ''You can see me, right...'', she was clearly talking to US, not the playable character, eventually leading to the 4th wall breaking, elevates the horror so well, sooo good!

Easiest way to explain traditional Japanese counting of the years is they count the era according to the reign of each emperor. For example Shōwa 45 is 1970. Shōwa Tennō stepped down in 1989, Shōwa 64. His son ascended the throne and took as his Reign Era name as Heisei. So Heisei 1 is 1989. 2019 is Heisei 30. Now that his son Emperor Akihito took over, 2019 is also Reiwa 1. This year (2020) is Reiwa 2.

It is paralleled in western use of Terms like The Renaissance, Roaring 20s, Great Depression, WWI, WWII, etc. Where in "the west" the importance of the social or political movement is reflected in the name in Japan it was the Emperor.

And I’d add one more trivial knowledge here. The reason why the game’s name is 昭和からの呼び声 is 昭和 Showa has a very nostalgic feeling to most of us Japanese. Roughly Showa is now 30-100 years ago. (I say very rough numbers to simplify) And for the average gamer (let’s say average is 30 years old), Showa is the era that they just missed, but we know through TV or our parents talking among family, or we learn at school as history. And when we visit our おじいちゃんおばあちゃん Ojii-Chan, Obaa-Chan, grandpa, grandma, their houses were often built right after World War 2, or even before that. And those old houses were so different because the techniques and materials have changed drastically. It was made of wood materials and often they had a roofing of thatch. And especially Showa ended at the end of 80s when coincidentally the huge economic bubble was crushing, Showa was remembered as a very long crazy historical era when they experienced WW2, recovery, massive modernisation and growth and everything. Very impactful, historical era. But Heisei (roughly 30 years. Roughly 1990-2020) was a very steady modern era, so there was not too much difference from 2020. And it is still recent. That’s why it’s very adequate that they chose Showa as a theme of the game because it sounds very nostalgic. If you wanna feel Showa, watch animations like Studio Ghibli’s Only Yesterday, My neighbour Totoro, or even common ones like Sazae-San and Doraemon (the older versions made in 80s) or Chibi Maruko Chan. And of course old movies like Kurosawa. Kurosawa’s modern themed movies mostly depict Showa very well such as ‘Ikiru’ and others.

@@user-cr9du1vn7h Yup, I know what ye mean, I still remember a lot of the changes and upheavals of the 80s, 90s, even the 2010s. Also I distinctly remember the stuffs used from those times too. I barely remember old rotary dial phones (as a wee kid), giving way to push button boxy phones, which shortly gave way to the early big boxy cell phones. Heck, I even remember when almost everyone had pagers in Hawaii, even a few dogs! The first of the flip cell phones, the rise of the "smartphone" which evolved into the "superphones" of today. (My first phone was a predecessor to the Motorola StarTAC-like model (don't remember the name), then thru a few models including a Samsung Galaxy S II, Nexus 4 and Galaxy Note 4. I just upgraded from a Kyocera DuraForce Pro to a OnePlus 7T Pro 5g McLaren.) I remember my parents telling me tales of the gas crisis, the Korean and Vietnam wars. I remember the economic crisises of the 80s-90s, the Gulf and Afghanistan wars. Among a whole lotsa others things of troublesome nature. The times of the BBS before WWW became a thing, dialup modems increasing from 2400 baud to megabit Ethernet based internet, before broadband wireless internet arrived. Now we are about to have space-based global gigabit internet! Regular phone dialups to wireless broadbands, amazing that all this developed in under 50 years, huh? I'm excited to see what will happen over the next 50+ years. EDIT: Typo fixes. (Don't do this WAY past yer bedtime, kiddos!) :)

just a guess : the mother didn't see the spirit up until she about the same age at the spirit , and then the spirit start to appear , she tell to her mother(grandma) and she didn't believe her . And then she become adult and look for job , she left the house . The spirit power grow stronger and control the house and people live in it , when the main charater (daughter) visit the house everything normal because she not reach the age yet . Up until now , when she at same age of the spirit , she return to grandma house and everything in the game start happen (base on her grandma line say she only came here when she need place to stay when her mom is busy) And with the spirit origin , probably she is a victim of the the war . The last day is proof since is draw the main charater back to that time ( im not sure about this since her school uniform may point out more about the year , but i not from Japan so i not know much about this)

My personal headcanon is that time rewinds only until the day where the girl died and became a ghost, then everyone gets turned to stone.
@Cheezbuckets
@Cheezbuckets Ай бұрын
My headcanon is that maybe she died after getting trapped somewhere during an air raid and no one found her until it was too late, and for whatever reason, maybe her face was exposed just enough that she could see people walking past but couldn’t shout out to them due to injury or something pressing down on her chest, and she died upset that no one could see her, hence, “You can see me, right?” Since she turns people to stone, maybe she was crushed under stone rubble. Just wild theories based on what little this game gives us, though lol

I think the atonement may not even for her but for her mother, or even, for her grandmother. I noticed that lots of the developer’s works’ victims seam unlucky bystanders at bad places at bad times. The ghost may not even related to the family, and since she just happened to go back to the countryside she just became the perfect target. However, let’s say is related to her mother or grandmother, she became the catalyst for the wrong doings that one of them did. But, I think that the ghost just needed more people to satiate her own death, by killing outsiders through the past.

I like how, unlike early instalments in this series which were pretty much just "Poor schmuck is in the wrong place at the wrong time", some of the later ones almost have messages to them. I mean, they're still very much "Poor bastard gets fucked over by ghosts because of bad luck," but there's a bit more than that, if that makes sense? The one with the bridge was like a warning about anxiety, mental health and dwelling on the negative, the doll house one was about the dangers of living in a fantasy. Still kinda figuring out what the train one could be, perhaps stranger danger or about the dangers of travelling alone on public transport? But this one very much feels like a warning about trying to hold on to the past and how sometimes you have to let the past be....well, the past. Or perhaps about learning from the mistakes of the past so that we don't repeat them. I mean, I'm probably completely wrong on the way I'm reading into this, and it is just "Wrong place, wrong time, ghost gonna eat your face now!". Either way, these are getting better and better with each game. Also, creepy raincoat dude poster at 13:30 was also in the train one. Interesting that he keeps popping up....wonder if he's gonna feature as a ghost/character in a future game...?

@@flipkiller8521 Yeah, I definitely see that for the first one. This unsettled the absolute fuck out of me at the end! The longer the 4th wall break went on the more I was squinting my eyes and averting my gaze to protect myself somehow?? At the very end, I had to put my hand up to block half the screen and just stare at Gab's calm face to feel less unnerved! So so good! I absolutely hated it! Some questions in the comments set me thinking about the series, and I'm going to try to unpack some of those thoughts here: Why "Day of Atonement"? In the Chapter 1 video, Gab mentioned that she confirmed with the devs that that's what they meant by つぐのひ. I'm not an expert on Japanese culture, so there could be a specific reference there that I'm missing, but outside of a Japanese context, "Day of Atonement" most often refers to the Jewish holy day of Yom Kippur. Simplistically, it's sort of the last day to repent and change your ways before judgement on your actions of the year is sealed. Change is important--just saying that you're sorry doesn't fix things. One of the overarching themes of the series is repetition: the protagonist goes the same way, doing the same things, over and over. The situation deteriorates around them, but they keep repeating their actions. This game adds a new layer to that, with the granny also repeating actions as she tries to live in the past. She ritualistically makes her daughter's favorite dinner over and over, as if trying to summon her back--not as the woman she's become, but as the girl she was when Granny was happy. Instead, she got a girl who will never grow up and leave her...the ghost-girl. The ghost could be from any time from the 1920s on, but my guess is that she's modern, haunting backwards, dragged along by Granny's desire to live in the past. (One possibility I thought of is that the air-raid shelter was not properly filled in when it was decommissioned, and it finally caved in, taking houses with it and killing Granny, the protagonist, the ghost-girl, and maybe others on the game's first day.) In this view, if the series has a moral, it might be, "The past is a trap." If the situation is getting worse, don't just keep doing the same thing.

I remember seeing the description in the ImCyan Official site about Tsugunohi. Tsugunohi is a mixture word of "The Next Day (Tsugi no hi / つぎのひ)" and "Atonement (Tsugunau / つぐなう / 償う)" Stepping into the territory of ghosts is a crime. In modern days, due to the fact that the building is everywhere, the border of the ghost's territory is blurred. Therefore, the humans will sometimes step into the territory by accident. The sure-coming next day (つぎのひ) being twisted into a cursed "Tsugunohi" by ghost's power is the main element of this whole series.

I thought the ghost can maybe be a family member like a deceased gradmas sister , and something that makes me belive that is a picture in the house wich have a lady in kimono and what looks like two girls also in kimono/yukata ,looking kind ancient, and again , was very common in the past family photos got taken in traditional clothes , or maybe she belong to a family wich former lived there, and died during the war time , her uniform is very ambiguous telling her time period, sailor seifuku were used since the early 20s , and she could be using one even if she lived in that time or more modern, also her mother said that she have seen this ghost too , probably in the 60s or 70s since her daughter is a young girl in the 80s , and she mentioned seeing a stranger in the house to her mother ( the gradma) so she can't be too modern

Tsugu no Hi Series from what I have read, is basically about ghosts being angry at humans invading the spirit world and thus, the punishment is basically overlapping the spirit world to the living (Thus terrorising any humans that crossed their paths or something.) I guess since modern buildings were basically built everywhere including to some historical or old ruined/ancient shrines or even a cemetery (most of this are to be removed or destroyed to pave way to buildings)...the border between the world of living and the spirit has overlapped. (Which is scary because you will not be aware of this fact until you got cursed or haunted). The characters in the series are basically people who have come to the wrong place at the wrong time. So they basically go about their day and each day, the horrors get closer and deteriotes everything around you. The victims slowly gets corrupted and possibly killed at the end. But this one is pretty different. I like it. This is one of the best installments on the Tsugu no Hi series.

Apparently, the girl was just transported back to 1943 World War 2 Japan once you look at the store that has a calendar displaying September 14 1943 and Japanese national flags placed around the store. This is two years before the Japanese surrender. Not only the girl, but also the grandmother was sent back to World War 2 Japan. In addition, the girl in the sailor uniform quoted "I sent them back to the Showa period" which is the time of Emperor Hirohito's rise to power. It looks like the girl in the sailor uniform has the ability to send people back in time or change time itself IF you see her. After the grandmother was sent back to WW2 Japan, I think the girl probably was sent there too. In the ending the house was now destroyed after a United States military air raid in modern day Japan. The grandparents and the girl did not survive in that air raid even with the bomb shelter. And the only thing left of the girl at modern day Japan is her hat. I think it should be noted that the girl in sailor uniform is wearing a uniform that dates back to the Taisho-era Japan which is 1912-1926. The sailor uniform was used in 1920. And the man with a raincoat on that wanted poster was the murderer of that sailor uniform girl since in there's also the poster of "junior high school student enrollment" before the wanted poster.

This is one my theories also that the wanted guy is the one who's behind of her murder. Another theory of mine is the girl was killed during air raids.

so if i had to guess, maybe the house or area was bombed in the past. they rebuilt it and the grandmother and grandfather moved in afterwards. when the mother was younger she started to see a ghost when she was around her daughters current age but she left the home for work. when the daughter returns, the ghost uses it as an opportunity to drag them all into the past

This one is the first one that actually felt like atonement. The girl said she hated going to Grandma's house because it was old plus she seemed disrespectful of her elders so she went backwards in time.

Omg! I’m like halfway through the vid and I just went “i fucking love this!” When the voice acting kicked in! I don’t know what it is, I usually hate this type of “thing” but it must be the skill of the devs! These guys know which strings to pull! Like from the start, it was weird and if the granny just said “dinners ready, I assure you it’s not poisoned” it would have sounded normal :D cool game, very nice! And great work with the translation Gab! Also, BB spotted at the windowsill looking at cat tv!

What I love the most about this is something that I read a bit ago. The scares are not necessarily intended for the lead... It's meant for us! Honestly, it saddens me that this took a long time to come out in English. But we did eventually get it so honestly I can't complain!

25:53 Oh that’s not good… You probably figured it out already, the girl probably in WW2-era. “Food Distribution Center”? That’s a must be a ration station where people get their food evenly due to short supply while rest is sent to soldiers in the frontlines. That’s thin black object in the red sky, that gotta be a bomber plane.

I seriously kept checking the window in the background to make sure that girl wouldn't be in there! (It would have sent me over the edge had you edited her in the window) I normally don't get creeped out so easily but her face toward the end and that fourth wall break did it for me. Nice video!

I'm so confused by this one. With all the others there's been some reason why it was happening, even if it's super vague. But this one doesn't really make sense. It doesn't explain why the ghost is doing it. Is she feeding off the time/life force of the girl as she goes to the past? Is it some weird curse she wandered into? Who is the girl? This one didn't answer enough questions to make sense.

I disagree, the other ones - the cat, the family, the train, the girl in the street - were basically the same thing. Just the wrong place at the wrong time. I actually think this one had more information with the ghost in the family house getting the others and the daughter conveniently went there as well and got trapped
@forcesinbalance5685
@forcesinbalance5685 4 жыл бұрын
Purely my interpretation: This game is about trying to live in the past. Grandma wanted her daughter back--not as herself, but as the girl she was. She wanted her husband back. She wanted everything to freeze in what may have been the happiest time in her life, and she tried to call back to that time in little, ritualistic ways, like making her daughter's favorite dinner over and over. That drove and shaped whatever force was acting on the house and family. The ghost-girl could have been from any time after about 1920, but my theory is that she is actually from the protagonist's present, and has been haunting backwards, pulled into the past like everyone else. She first started appearing to the mom when the prospect of her little girl growing up and leaving her caused Grandma to start trying to freeze her world in time; Grandma drew in a girl who would never grow up. There are no clear indications of how she died, just hints of a broken neck or severed head, but she may have actually died the day the house "vanished". So, what triggered the final collapse into the past? Maybe Grandma died the night the protagonist came to visit, and dragged everyone into the past with her. Maybe there was an earthquake, and the old air-raid shelter hadn't been properly filled in when it was decommissioned, and they _all_ died as the house and neighborhood collapsed into a hole. Maybe it was the protagonist's presence, giving the ghost-girl something to latch onto, or maybe it was just finally the day the ghost-girl actually died, and the protagonist happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. We can only guess; the game doesn't tell us about the present, because it's all about the past.

I like this video, it wasn't too long, well only because of the length of this game. There are other videos I watch on other channels and I try to fit them in my day due to limited time. I'll probably watch some of your other videos, anything less than 1 hour and 20 minutes is fine with me. I know I can watch these videos later as a book mark, I perfer to watch them entirely and move on when I'm finished with them. I may watch some of your longer videos depending on my day? This dev makes these horror games well. Good style.
