One of the main reasons I dislike bowfishing is due to the thoughtless shooting of native fish such as the Buffalo's. Bowfishermen in the US rarely eat their kills and opt to throw them away or use them as fertilizer. I don't mind if they're killing non native species such as carp but the needless killing of native fish has always irked me.

I don't know if it's true or not but I remember seeing a documentary about some carp in a large pond in the middle of nowhere in France where there used to be a monastery and it was believed that some of the enormous carp in there were a couple of hundred years old and were original carp still alive from when the monastery was there and tended to by the monks in the 1700s and 1800s. That could have been local hearsay and added to the documentary for dramatic effect but somehow it seemed believable especially as these monsters were 4ft (well over a meter) long and weighed 70lbs (over 30kgs).

Bigmouth Buffalo breeding or the lack there of poses a huge question about the species, seeing as how 90% are over 80 year's old. They could soon disappear sadly. It's only been in the last few years studys have been done, in the past the fish was commercialy fished heavily where I live.

ageing fish is a pain in the butt. To get a good age you have to kill the fish so some ages are hard to get if you want a soft rayed fish to keep living and know the age. Hard rayed fish are a bit better but none the less not as good as killing the fish for the "ear bones"(they are on either side of the fishes brain)

Still not going to stop an unnecessary toll road that Nobody is going to take/ urban sprawl attempts will fail & construction waste washing down to the rich feeding grounds in the estuarine river Delta... Oh well at least I realized it was doomed well ahead of time and just bought a quality folding hard kayak to enjoy the area before it unneedlessly gets ravaged by environmental catastrophy and corruption xD (still don't understand why sturgeon are almost Never are represented in books/ fish folding guides/ etc for gulf of Mexico, so most Floridians even if they're into fish/ nature are oblivious to this... But I suppose still Somehow being in a sport fishing book or 2 somewhat counts, and if they browse Wikipedia enough people will find out, and maybe see a few jump in the distant future, if they're lucky...) Edit: Altho hyper-infl@tion likely to swallow us whole in a few years or so, phew gulf sturgeon might be saved xD
