Another fish that's surprisingly venomous are the surgeonfish/tangs, as a characteristic of these fish includes a venomous spine at the base of their tail, and some species such as blue tangs have venomous dorsal spines as well.

That's crazy that there's venomous sturgeon out there, I thought the armor would be enough!

@@DanglingwithDietrik The naming of the sturgeons and surgeonfish do get confused often, though they are quite different groups of fish. About Sturgeons though, I'm not sure if there are venomous species of sturgeon out there, but they can do some pretty effective damage in their own right when someone gets hit into one while they jump out of the water, Lol.

So I have been stung by a stingray atop my foot. It was after a long wrestling tournament in the Carolinas so my teammates and I wanted to spend our last couple days at the beach before having to head home to the Midwest. The first minute I was out in the water, the waves were big enough that they swept me off my feet so I couldn’t shuffle. I landed on something kinda firm feeling then WHAM! There was a pain on my foot that felt like I was being pressed on by a drill. I was in so much shock that as I swam backwards frantically to the shore I seized my right foot. As I came hobbling to the shore there was a stinger in there and a good amount of blood. At this point my adrenaline slowed so I could really feel the pain. It felt hot, my foot was twitching as I sat on the sand with it up in the air. The pain kinda shot up through my knee. It made me kind of flail around from time to time. My foot swole up a lot by the time I was being brought to the hospital. It felt odd to move my right leg for a little while after. Was pretty numb. It subsided by dinner. It got REALLY itchy the day after.

One time while catching pictus catfish out of the pet store's aquarium that I worked at, it got stuck in the net. As I worked to get it out, it stung me stung me with its pectoral fin by pushing my finger into it with its tail. It felt like a bee sting and bugged me for a few hours, so I know they have some venom in their spines!

such a wonderful video. I am from Hong Hong, and the striped eel catfish is native and very common here. when I was fishing a few years back, I caught a juvenile about 5 cm, I got stung by it in the finger and the spine is very hard to remove because it has reversed hooks along it, and it's super painful. I did not have any serious issues tho, but this is how I feel, the pain has spread to my whole arm in the first hour, then the pain started to scale down, but in the next 6 to 7 hours I find it very hard to move my arm, thats it. The local fishermen told me that I was lucky because the situation would be a lot worse if I was stung by one of these adults then I'm pretty much done. In Hong Kong the striped eel catfish is a food fish and they are always sold alive in wet markets, but all of their fins have been chopped off once captured. but they are very delicious if cooked in the right method. I am also a reef tank hobbyist and noticed they are very rare in the aquarium trade. love your videos and I really enjoy watching them, hope more of these videos show up 🐠👍

My finger felt like I scalded it in hot water and then rolled it in bees. Hot hot hot water did help significantly and I was able to finish the 4 hours of work after I ran it under hot for 10 mins. As a fisherman in North Queensland Australia I encounter Scats quite frequently. I have been stung a few times its not too painful and fades quickly. I can also affirm that they are quite tasty also, but you must remove the gut cavity (were the scat is lol) on capture or it will taint the flesh. At certain times of the year you can spot schools of juveniles grazing algae in the brackish reaches or rivers. Despite the stings and their skill at bait thievery, they are still among my favorite fish species.
