Cobia as invasive fish? It's kinda funny for me because they are native from here(Brazil)and i couldn't imagine such a delicious and slowly fish to become invasive. They are such a peaceful followers of fishing boats waiting for the discarded ones and as one is spotted following a boat they fish them to. They become enormous slow motion black fishes.
@wompa703 жыл бұрын
I clicked on this because of the cobia. Growing up in the 70s and 80s we would fish the Gulf of Mexico. We definitely got excited when coming across a school of cobia. A blast to land and very good to eat.

this series is awesome, here are some other fish species that are invasive, redfin (European perch), there is also the oriental weather loach and cichlids. I would love to see redfin appear in this series as in many countries they are a game fish that isn't invasive at all but here in Australia, they are a threat to native micros like the galaxies, Australian smelt and pygmy perch species. they also compete against larger native species for and often the redfin win. overall this was a great vidoe.
@kendallkahl87253 жыл бұрын
The native fish whose numbers have boomed because of invasives is the small mouth bass. They relish gobies and Ruffe. Being more adapted to cold water they do better than large mouth bass in the Great Lakes.

A very interesting video! In my country, that being Finland, pumpkinseed sunfish have become a massive problem in some areas, apparently due to people releasing them from aquariums without thinking. There's also been sightings of European bitterlings, but I'm not sure about the spread.

Another invasive fish in the northwest United States is the Northern Pike Minnow also known as a Squa fish its is come to a point that in Oregon ODFW (Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife) has started offering a reward for catching this fish they eat salmon eggs and salmon fry and the squa fish really thrives in this Oregon and Washington

Is the Pike Minnow invasive or just outcompeting salmon in its native range do to humans interfearing with it. Also it has to have the worst rename of any fish.

I live in the UK and signal crayfish are a problem in my local river (the river Wharf) and the streams. When we go on walks to a popular stream in the summer, me and my siblings like to catch bullheads and we will also often find signal crayfish in the rockier areas. They breed in the stream too, which isn't helping very much. Whiteclaws haven't been seen in my area in something like 20-30 years now...

I am new to this channel but if you are looking for more things to talk about read the book “Death and Life of the Great Lakes” -by Dan Egan. It goes over a large history of major invasive species how they got their and the effects on the ecosystem. Good video 👍

My summers growing up on a farm in south central Kentucky, a Very rural area, farmers would often, in their larger pastures, dig a Rain water collection pond for the cattle, these ponds may up on a hill plateau half mile or more away from other water, these ponds are not ever stocked, we had several ourselves, but you go to the ponds sometime in the future and there will be fish in it, various kinds, no one has put them there, how the hell do they get there, some says eggs on bird's feet but after many hours of observation I have not seen any like this.

Over here in America we use gold fish for catfish bait sometimes bass bait , but I've never really tried it , ik alot of people do it tho ,either store bought gold fish or getting cast nets and getting them along with minnows and shad ,maybe crayfish to use for angler fish , it doesn't seem to much of a problem since they are literally bright orange or gold sometimes , catfish and large mouth bass usually go for them , easy prey , they are pretty abundant tho so I guess that's the problem when it may out compete or even add to the carp problems, so noted , if I catch a gold fish trying to get bait for fishing , I'll use it lol
