The Mugger Crocodile is also found in Iran in the westernmost point of its habitat, I think they're smaller here due to less food, strangely they rarely attack people and despite lucrative market for their skin, the locals protect them because they believe "Gandoo" (the local name for Mugger Crocs) keeps the water clean.

Nice video. One thing extra I feel is worth mentioning is that crocodilian behavior (eg. More aggressive vs less aggressive) is often based on the regional history and current country policies. For example, a part of the Nile where rebels used to dump their victims got those crocs in that area craving humans, which still is a problem to this day. Costa Rica where their environmental laws allow companies to agitate and feed the crocodiles for tourists - has since created a very aggressive species of the American crocodile. Contrast that to adjacent Panama where it isn't permitted, their American crocs are super chill (relative). External factors 🤷🏼♂️. I'd assume this is the case everywhere for all wildlife, how humans can have such an impactful affect on various animal behaviors in regards to their evolution in the respective geographic region.

Great point
@thalmoragent9344 Жыл бұрын
Solid point. All are dangerous, but not all are overly aggressive as others
@royarg8603 Жыл бұрын
Their natural aggression tends to correlate to their food availability. Nile and Saltwater crocs regularly face dry seasons when food is scarce so they have to be aggressive so they can feed when food finally becomes available. American crocs, despite growing to similarly large sizes, have access to food year-round and so end up being more docile. The only exception I've found to this rule is the Cuban crocodile which is surprisingly aggressive for a smaller-sized crocodile. Perhaps the fact that it's a more social crocodile means aggression is required to fight for food between the "pack." It's interesting that humans are affecting those tendencies by feeding them. Maybe they're recreating the Cuban croc scenario: by humans feeding the crocs they create situations where the more aggressive and dominant crocs end up being the ones at the front getting fed and thus incentivize that aggression.

Black Caiman do get over 20 feet. They are the Apex predators of the Amazon. Even the biggest Jaguars stay away from the bigger ones because those giants will eat them. Around the end of the 19th century, an American Alligator that measured at 20 ft. was shot in Louisiana. It isn't official because they couldn't move it, so it washed away in the tides. Those old monsters are practically non-existent now though, but I'm sure there is probably a monster or two in a remote swamp somewhere. There are plenty of 13 footers in Lake Okeechobee.
@CrocodylusAlt Жыл бұрын
@@davis4555 The 19.2 ft American alligator is not verified whatsoever, and the person who reported it is known to exaggerate. However, according to the more reliable Mark Plotkin, the largest black caiman measured was 5.5m or 18 ft with a section of its tail missing. There is also many other reports from biologist that mention caimans from 4.8-6.4m with the 6-meter giants being from before the skin slaughter, and we still have skulls of alleged giants while the alligator has no remains at all to support such large sizes. The largest verified alligator was only 4.5m as well or just under 15 ft at 14 ft 9 inches killed by Mandy Stokes in 2014.
