I love The Girl From the Other Side, but I definitely think it's not for everyone. The story is quite vague and abstract, and combined with the gorgeous stark art I feel like that's the point. It's goal is to immerse you in the feeling of a dark dream or frightening fairy tale, so that won't suit everyone's taste of what they want from their manga :)

This was such a fun video! I just read captivated by you last week and loved it. The Mangaka has another one out in English called let’s go karaoke. I couldn’t get into that one. I really need to read ran away with me girl! That one just sounds so messy and right up my alley.

I love Kamisama Kiss, and I think the story (and art) gets better as it goes. When it comes to the age difference, I'm able to overlook it because though chronologically there's a disproportionate gap, it's the biological age that counts for me. In Inuyasha they are the same biological age. In Kamisama Kiss, I don't think Tomoe's biological age is explicitly stated, which makes it easier to overlook, in my opinion. I think it'll come down to whether or not you find problems in their dynamic as human girl x yokai. I for one like the progression in Nanami x Tomoe's relationship.

Been interested in My Happy Marriage for a while and will check out the light novel as well. The covers also looks sooo gorgeous! I also took advantage of Kodansha digital volume 1 offer and have bunch of series to try, ngl totally forgot about them, so thanks for the reminder😅

the guy from a condition called love does get better over time and his situation is explored so if you liked vol 1 then i encourage you to continue :) i like it as well!!! i've read all of kamisama kiss and i didn't think it was as good as people made it out to be 😭 same with girl from the other side, although there was some time where i really liked that series i really like my happy marriage as well!! edit: out of those vol 1 you showed on screen, i like lovesick ellie, wake up sleeping beauty and ran the peerless beauty!!!

I liked your analysis of A Condition Called Love. I feel like you’ll find the story interesting as it progresses because the backstories and character development are good, and their romance becomes really sweet. I also like SWWTRH a lot. It’s a real feel good story to me, some parts can feel a little slow, but I love that Shirayuki is a strong and confident mc, and the different little adventures they go on are fun, and then there are sections with good bits of action ☺

I felt like A Girl From The Other Side didn't get any better, it just kinda stays the same. But a lot of other people did like it. I just think if you didn't like the first volume, the other volumes won't sway you much more. I was waiting for the series to explain it's mysteries and it just doesn't.

I know what you mean about condition called love, I was a worried he was a bit yandere but I ended up liking it. I have some of the same feelings about kamisama kiss, she is so young in comparison and he was also treating her so badly it was giving me the ick but I think I’m going to stick with it past volume one and try and see since there is so much hype. I have also been on the apothecary diaries hype train so I will for sure check out Snow White with the red hair. I really love the girl from the other side, I think it’s one where you need to get into it a little more though because the world building is revealed as you read as opposed to being explained up front. I kind of like it because I feel like you are learning stuff with the teacher who doesn’t have his memories and is navigating this strange and mysterious situation if that makes sense also I cried so much the last part of the story, it really hooked me. There is other stuff going on plot wise but I feel like it’s strength is the main characters and their relationship.

run away with me girl is good! volume one made me wanna read volume 2 still gotta go pick it up, i love a solid short series, feels less like a huge investment lol, but yeah its messy but im curious! our taste in manga overlaps so much lol as far as the list of manga at the beginning, i've tried all out, its not amazing, if you like sports manga its fun but it is like super macho and kinda rediculous but also loads of huge buff men soo

During digital manga sale, I saw a lot of the volume 1 that I wanted to get already😮‍💨 but I picked up “asper kanojo”( thats my atypical girl). They also had subsequent volume sale so I got the only volumes available for a favorite anime of mine, Mashiro no oto( those snow white notes) kodansha only has 8 volumes available and that’s as far as I could read so far. I wont be able to complete that series ever I think.

ya i don't read a ton of digital manga but it is nice to have in a pinch, such a shame that a lot of series seem like they will never get a physical print though and even worse if they are slow with the digital edition also 🥲

@@tsukkinotes music focus manga are not treated well by English licensers in general ( except nana and given of course)Maybe because they are not popular? Nodame never got finished in print, sakamichi no apolllon is out of print, kono oto tomare still hasn’t got any release and worst is for mashiro no oto( those snow white notes) who doesn’t even get picked by scanlation groups so that I can be at peace🥲 they are all award winning mangas but doesn’t get fair treatment.

You can like and/or enjoy a trope, plot device, archetype, scenarios, etc. in literature without endorsing equivalents in the real world for yourself and the general population at large. (I wouldn't wish half of the trauma you see in fiction on actual people, but let me read and soak in the drama ha ha) It seems that sometimes reading choices have to be couched in apologia and presented as if you're walking on eggshells more for the benefit of others, or you have to defend your reading list. That being said, what you don't like reading or find squeamish for your tastes is perfectly acceptable as well. Excellent video, it's really cool to see you try new stuff and hear your thoughts.

thank you! and i agree, i personally have very hard nopes in regards to certain tropes etc but i don't judge others for enjoying them, i'm not the morality police but i do feel a sense of responsibility to at least warn others by stating the trigger warnings etc so people can make informed decisions if they are comfortable reading what i recommend :)
